I personally think that future and fantasy being the same game is a good thing. It means i can play someone with a fantasy army with my future army, with no rule problems whatsoever.

Indeed. I've planned a game with a friend where he is going to play fantasy undead and I'm going to play sci-fi undead. We'll see how it goes.

You probably would still need to give the fantasy player an edge though. The points may be the same, but massive ranged power dominates melee.

@@KeloseDEC Definitely. The SF armies generally have more access to ubiquitous shooting, even for armies otherwise more geared towards melee (like Orcs). And when a Fantasy army has shooting, their shooting units are generally worse and in smaller squads. That said, there are some armies in SF (like Wormhole Demons that aren't Change) who have no shooting options. (Then again, they're a special case, because they're a Fantasy army ported over to SF anyway). A good way to alleviate the range disparity between Fantasy and SF armies would be to include a bit more terrain on the field. Not so much that ranged forcused armies have no chance. But enough that melee focused armies can move around without being blown off the table turn 1. Placing objectives more in the center of the board may also help, as it forces ranged armies to move up, instead of hanging back.

OPR is excellent and so far 3rd ed updates have been mostly positive.

This is amazing! It’s like when hordes was added to warmachine and you could have an army of werewolf druids fighting laser elves. If it’s supported and balanced going forward it’s going to be a fun time

“Blowout by bad decisions or bad dice rolls”…I feel seen. 😂

The change to the poison rule in particular is a great bit of rules matching flavour - rerolling 6s hurts a lot more when youre only saving on 5s to begin with, and you'd expect a poison weapon to utterly decimate the chaff while struggling to bring down the big units.

Played 2 games last night. One Grim dark future one Age of fantasy, so far like the new changes. Played 1000pts with the force organization. A 3rd level caster that is not opposed by another caster was able to do pretty much whatever it wanted pretty easily. Would like to get in a few more games but I would suggest even a low level caster to slow the other players caster.

Yeah, I'm still figuring out how to best fit magic in. Save up for a few guaranteed high-lvl spells, or machine-gun weaker stuff? Decisions, decisions.

It's probably advisable, for balance reasons, to stick to lower Caster levels for low points games, if the option exists. Just as you don't necessarily bring your big beatstick monster into a low points game, you don't give your Caster the best casting value. Bring the tools appropriate for the size of the game.

I played my first game today of OPR. we both played community made factions and it was my Xenomorphs vs the Rebel Alliance. I felt good. I really felt like I was playing the xenomorphs and the Rebels felt right. I hope others that come to the store for OPR won't mind the list I bring.

Back before a lot of current changes, I built a halfling skirmish army that had impact 3 on a unit, meaning a total of 9 AUTO HIT attacks for a unit of 3, plus their regular attack. I had 3 of those units, plus a leader with the same effects. In one full turn, I had 30 autohits. It was a super broken build, of course, but i doubt impact/lance changes are going to be a buff, theyre likely much more ballanced now, which is a good thing

It's like the spirit of oldhammer meets modern streamlined game design for the sake of playability. I love it.

Great overview. I am looking forward to trying 3rd out. I have been tinkering with GDFF a bit, using it for Necromunda and even adapting it (slowly) to Fallout andf some of these changes look like good improvements. Very versatile system. Cheers!

I was a bit bummed when I found that my Patreon didn't cover their rules for Gang Wars. GDFF is ok, is literally small scale GDF, but I'm really curious how their Necromunda knockoff is

I'm most happy about the impact changes. It used to be so good it made puting guns on my tanks obsolete in most cases.

In my 3.0 rulebook the first sentence of poison and rending is exactly the same

I think Tough 3 counting as 3 models is too restrictive. Now can only get 3 Bladeguard and no character into the biggest heavy transport tanks!

I play solo because I have no time, but I’ve incorporated 40k strategems and psychic powers into Grimdark Future using the command point system that’s baked in, and it really spices it up. So far I’ve played my custodes vs my thousand sons. I pick 3 strategems for each army and 3 psychic powers. You have to adapt them a bit to fit into the points and die rolls, but it’s very doable, and really fun. I think this is such a superior game design, but for those looking to ramp it up, I’ve found this works really well. Next is making some of my own units with the patreon army builder. It’s not the most intuitive program, but with time and patience I’ve been able to create a titan that’s not 700+ points lol. Titan lords need a lot of love, and I need to build one exclusively for havoc titans, they are the sad robots in the corner being ignored lol.

I do have plans to do a series introducing the lore and the factions. I may not get to it for a month or so, but it's on the agenda.

What about stealth's nerf. Makes Dao normal and Heavy Stealth suits broken. Their max range is 18" which is just a 6" enemy advance to negate. :'(
