Saw them open for Muse last year. Before going I did a quick listen to part of a few songs on Spotify and didn't think I liked it. Got to the concert and a few songs into the set I looked at the wife and said I can't believe this is the same band I heard on Spotify. Great live show for their short opening set. Wouldn't hesitate to go see them live anytime.

Taka's voice is definitely better in concert than on Spotify, etc. For some reason, the fine grains in Taka's voice are not reflected well on Spotify and other sources. He has a really nice voice when you hear him in person at Live. Sorry for my poor English as I used a translator.

OOR is always fun to watch- they are pros. They know what they're doing. Taka (lead vocals) is sooo good! You wont be disappointed- he can do anything and everything with his voice. The other 3 guys in the band are just as talented...all 4 play multiple instruments and write their own stuff. I hope you check out more from them.

I had heard a funny description of where their name came from, that it was a take off on “one o’clock”. Apparently it was, just a bit more complex. “The band's name….. comes from from "one o'clock", the time that the band used to practice their music on weekends. They chose to play at one o'clock in the morning because it was cheaper to use the rehearsal space during such hours. However, noticing that the Japanese language made no distinction between R's and L's, "O'CLOCK" transformed into "O'CROCK" or "O'KROCK", which later transformed into "OK ROCK". In addition, One Ok Rock can be expressed as "10969" (wan-ō-ku-ro-ku).”

Thanks for reacting to One Ok Rock, and hope you check out more! They actually opened for Muse on their 2023 Europe/North America tour! For heavier songs, I'd recommend "Mighty Long Fall" (live at Yokohama, 2014), "3xxxv5/Take Me to the Top" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/YpiX1pugetKchZc.html), "完全感覚 Dreamer" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/dIqkxaSkp9DFn6g.html), and "The Beginning" (Eye of the Storm 2020). Some of their more arena rock songs include "Renegades" (Luxury Disease tour 2023), "Take What You Want" (Ambitions tour 2018), and "We Are" (Ambitions tour)

Thanks for those links. I asked some of their fan base for heavier songs but they suggested fairly poppy songs or ballads. Certainly not links like this! Loved that lead-in for Take Me to the Top!

Rob, so funny you reacted to this song. I thought about recommending it to you last week but couldn’t get around to it. I found it a month ago and liked it for the same reasons you did. Glad that you did this. Another great reaction! Keep it going! 🤘

Solid tune. Hey Rob, you said that your reaction to Devilskin - Endo killed itself. Since that died I'd like to suggest another couple of Devilskin songs. Firstly, Corrode, a banger. This one has a music video. Jen is on fire here. Catchy groove. Corrodes lyrics tell of being completely overwhelmed and submerged in grime and stress. Fighting your way through it all and rising to ask for help. This a fav for me. Secondly, Cherophobia (The Failure in Me). Cherophobia is a phobia where a person has an irrational aversion to being happy. This song has Jen doing her thing up to her high points. The song has a transition towards to end to a lighter moment and then picks up again. There is no actual video made for this one however. Will be going to see Devilskin in late June. Can't wait. I need a blow out, this year has been a tough one and it seems like the perfect concert to go and get that musical release. Still enjoying your reactions Rob. Rock on \m/

If you’re into listen to more from Japan. Please check out X-Japan. They are a metal band from the 80s and the foundation of metal/rock in Japan. I suggest “Kurenai from their last live”.

Gave it thumbs up BUT, I amhearing many songs in this genre which remind me of early 90s: just a vibe with increases in intensity; no rhythm guitar + lead guitar; no compositional mechanics, i.e., beginning middle and end; rising action leading to a climactic finale. Reminds me of corpoRATe pulp mill radio.

It was written for a video game, which is likely why it sounds more run-of-the-mill/mainstream/less complex. I'd recommend checking out their original songs!
