One of The Largest Model Railroad Layouts in the United States The Lehigh & Keystone Valley Museum
Ойын-сауық
One of the largest model railroad layouts in the United States is The Lehigh & Keystone Valley Model Railroad Club was formed in 1994 and located on 705 Linden St. in Bethlehem, Pa.
The members of the Club have spent more than 20 years constructing a model railroad layout depicting the historic routes of local railroads. In 2006, wishing to share their creation with the general public, they formed the Lehigh & Keystone Valley Model Railroad Museum. Members of the club operate and maintain the Museum. They continue to enhance the Museum displays.
The layout in HO scale depicts the route of the Lehigh Valley Railroad during the period 1950 to 1976, from West Portal NJ to Bethlehem Pa. and north to Coxton Pa. The Reading Railroad From Quakertown Pa. To Bethlehem Pa. then to Harrisburg Pa. The Central of New Jersey from Elizabethport NJ to Wilkes-Barre Pa. Anyone familiar with the geographical area will recognize landmarks which have been recreated from vintage photographs. The layout is over 5,000 sq. ft. and is double decked, consisting of about 7,000 ft of track, over 250 turnouts (150 are powered). There is a helix connecting the lower and upper level. The scenery is nearing completion. In 2005 the layout was switched from DC to the NCE DCC System. Shortly thereafter a computer system was incorporated. JMRI Software was added to run train detection and signaling utilizing Digi-trax equipment. The CTC Room, with 6 computer screens, is able to operate the entire layout, providing prototypical operation of the railroad.
The October monthly open house was dedicated to Conrail. Conrail was the main railroad in the Lehigh Valley from 1976 to 1999.

Great layout with perfect scenery. Realistic speed enhances the realism. Love that iconic Triple Crown roadrailer.
Can’t wait for Cody to start making stuff like this.
This is a cool video but I’m curious about when we’ll start to see athletic training videos on this channel?
There aren't enough positive adjectives to describe this...awesome and outstanding don't even come close!
Love model railways.
That steel mill is awesome. :) It would encompass my whole layout lol
Very nice. Clean. I was actually able to watch the entire thing because there was NO MUSIC. These vids are much better with natural sounds instead of " hokey banjo" music in the background. Thank you for this incredible post of this beautifully built model R.R.
i just love seeing these caboose! when i was a kid i always looked for them!
Would love to see this in person..simply incredible
The vegetation looks spot on. Loved the grass between the track on the sidings. And of course the blast furnaces.
I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Your steady hand and smooth panning while you film these layouts is much appreciated. Very well done.

Growing up I used to live next to a railroad track and I get excited when the train cross by. Watching this brings back a lot of my childhood memories. I found this link on the internet when searching for model train museum. I hope to one day to PA to visit this museum. The scale is so realistic. Good job!
Smooth as silk layout
This is simply art.
absolutely amazing and beautiful layout! so much detail and love all the custom work..truly amazing! great job to the railroad club and great video.
I live less than 3 miles from this model railroad and the authentic detailing in this is amazing! I still kayak the same canal next to the railroad yard in Allentown they duplicated here, as well as the area in Easton where the Lehigh & Delaware Rivers converge where the railroad bridges combine and pass over them.. They have modeled this entire area perfectly with many of the same buildings that are still there today! Even if it weren't a near exact copy of the Lehigh Valley, its still an amazing model railroad to bring the family & friends to see! Great job, L&KV Museum!! :-)
Awesome video and I love that club bunch of great people there if you're ever in NJ stop by The Model Railroad Club in Union NJ behind the Home Depot on Route 22 East Bound in Union NJ

Another great layout and video thanks and the camera angles were great as well when train was going by.
You know this is awesome but maybe a bit more Cody in it would be appreciated
Great video!!! Gives me tons of inspiration to work on my own steel mill layout ... working on plan to make the molten iron look like its flowing in the cast house floor.
Great video! Awesome layout!! Greg
Nice layout... I remember Conrail very well.
Great layout, nice to see the trains aren't running at out of scale, 200mph like most model railroaders tend to do. If you can't keep it to scale at least keep it prototypical!

This video shows some incredibly detailed portions of the layout including some very long trains, but we do not get to see the entire layout.
In the initial scene, I'm looking forward to the artist correcting the road going to the sky.

I have been to this lay out when I lived in N.J>
They are building the worlds largest O scale somewhere in NJ, its being built inside a old Kmart or Walmart building. Something like 8500 meters of total track.

went to Wilson high now live in Florida model this area in O scale 2 rail miss the old Black Diamond Society from the 60s Bob McAllister....
me on my way to the model train store after this video 🏊♀️🚴🏃
My number one pet peeve in this hobby…..seeing trains running on a super detailed layout, and the owners of said trains are too lazy to paint the shiny metal wheels on the cars.
Lehigh & Keystone Model Railroad Club was formed in 1994 but not located at 705 Linden St as it became home in 1997 / 1998 there first location was on S New ST known as Christmas Hobbies not the Lehigh & Keystone Valley model railroad club, even when they moved to the Linden ST location the store front which was known as a Hobby Shop more than a Model Railroad Club as it was still named Christmas Hobbies until 2002 / 2004, and the layout members have been building for over 25yrs now Not 20yrs. RIP Lou
I'm guessing there will be lots of visitors there during 2024 N scale National convention.
Is this HO scale cuz h o scale is the only good scale to model

Why do some of the diesel freight consists have a caboose?
@stephenjohnson26

During the time modeled by the club, cabooses were still in use on some railroads. Some of the railroads you see in the video still use cabooses to this day.
I have 2 trains one is HO and one is G

Two problems with this is conrail never ran dpus and most layouts like this only just run trains around and around. they are not build for operating sessions.

I have had the opportunity to attend an Op Till You Drop session at this club. I ran one side of a hump yard for 7 hours. The switch list we had was about 3 pages long and I forgot how many trains we handled. The layout is fully signaled with a complete dispatchers office. I assure you trains don't just run in circles.

Major operations based layout.
@stephenjohnson26

The DPU's you refer to are not that. Local switchers often put locomotives at both ends of a train if there was no location for the locomotive to run around the train and return to the yard, this is what you are seeing.
Advertising the layout and then focusing all about the trains and barely showing the overall layout. Misleading.

All very realistic, except no graffiti on the cars

The layout is based in the late 1960's and early 70's before graffiti became a thing
This is not the largest layout in America

It would look more realistic with graffiti painted on the cars and buildings !

The time frame of this layout is before graffiti became popular. There actually was a time when people respected trains and didn't tag them.
Needs a little graffiti on some of the boxcars to add realism.
The video is great. However, the rail cars look like they just came out of the boxes, and the buildings look like they were made from those cardboard boxes.
