One of the biggest lobsters we’ve caught!
This is probably the biggest lobster we have caught. Unfortunately he lost his crusher claw at one time so he doesn’t look that big. If he had his original crusher claw he would be massive!! You can see he regrew a new one but it is not full size yet.

Thing was MASSIVE. I know it was the same turtle cause he had a few scars on his body and he was missing 3 toes, just like the one my grandpa was holding. I appreciate you made the old Lobster free . I love you .
Thank you for being a wonderful advocate for sustainable fishing. Regards from a former Scottish creelman.
I really enjoy the fact that you actually release the biggest ones back into the sea and give them a treat for their troubles. By sharing your videos with us you are helping to give conservation a voice.

So in maine it's considered a monster lobster, when they get to certain size your suppose to release those guys back due to Maine wants those lobsters to keep breeding. If you decide to keep them and when you get stopped by the coast guard you can say goodbye to your license. Once you lost your license its gone. There really hard to get unless your not grandfather inn.

He doesn't have a choice in the matter, per se, unless he chooses to be a criminal, risk his lisense, and doing so in a way that really hurts the sustainability of this fishery. It would be illegal to "keep" them, they have to be released. That said, the attitude and mindset he shows when a catch must be released, a piece of potential profit must be abstained, is very good. That mentality is more prevalent among fishermen and -women, and many others who make their living off the fruits of nature, as most of them are higly aware of the balance needed to keep it healthy and sustainable. But there are also people who are _very_ frustrated and defiant when releasing catch, that only care about their personal maximum profit. Those folks are the ones that would scrape the seas and leave them dead and empty in a heartbeat if not for the criminality and their own loss of lisense.

It's illegal to catch them past a certain size. No honest harbor would take him if brought to shore. Also, they taste terrible when they are that big and old.
