This video is not sponsored, but Insta360 did send me this webcam for free to review. I'm not obligated to make a video or say anything specific about it.
Editing note:
The Elgato Facecam Pro does not have an actual full frame sensor, but it does capture video and perform as well as an actual full frame sensor. The comparison was supposed to read as a pro for the Facecam Pro: performance of a full Frame Sensor.
This is not a techie-specs driven video channel, this is an unboxing, installing, testing and using video so you the viewer can see how it performs when specs either don’t matter to you, or don’t understand them enough to know what they do. This video is simple, how easy is it to use for the everyday content creator, and what does it actually do - and what does is actually look like in ideal situations, less than ideal situations, the best situations, and the the worst situations. Then you may decide FOR YOURSELF, after seeing it in this video, may it help you be more comfortable with your decision to buy it, or not to buy it. I’ll try it- BEFORE YOU BUY IT. !

    I'll preface: The gimbal is neat for sure, and it honestly seems like there are a lot of really nice software features that would be really nice for someone who needs them. However, if you're like me, and all you're wanting is a high quality webcam that sits atop your monitor, pointed directly at you, unmoving, and is just setup to capture your face for video meetings, there's no contest from what I can tell. So far everything I've seen has had the FaceCam Pro winning out. To me, all of your example footage looks noisy - I can't help but notice all of the blocky artifacts appearing throughout. I can't tell if that's the camera, an editing issue, or if you've just exported this video at a lower bitrate, but it was very distracting to me to see so much blockiness and blurry edges in a video about the supposed quality of the camera you're using. One other thing that really stood out to me (and this may also be an editing issue?) was that it almost felt like there was a slight delay between your speech and the video. So far in all the FaceCam Pro videos I've seen, including Harris's, the standout feature for me has been not just 4k resolution, but 4k **at 60FPS**, captured very crisply and processed with extremely low latency. To be clear - I'm not saying the Insta360 looks _bad_, but I am saying that its video quality (the most important feature for the vast majority of users) doesn't even compare to the FaceCam Pro. It's just a decent webcam that has a gimbal with some decent AI tracking software and features, a statement which you managed to stretch into a 40 minute video. Honeslty, your video comes across to me as "Why would you pay $300 for a (REALLY high quality) webcam?! I mean, if you're spending that much, look at this one that has ALL THESE (pointless for 95% of people) SOFTWARE FEATURES (and is also decent quality)!" I wouldn't call them rivals in anything but price range. The two are aimed at very different use-cases from what I can tell.

    95% of the people buying the Insta360 are the ones who are looking for the ability adding a virtual camera man to their setup for their livestreams, whiteboard feature, and TikTok features that aren’t even possible with their current cameras much less webcam, so they want to make sure video quality is closer to a camera than a typical webcam before adding it to their setup. I am getting responses from people who livestream them playing musical instruments like guitars, keyboards, singing during their twitch livestreams in which these features are game changers for them and the set and forget Facecam Pro is not going to improve their setup with their existing cameras, where as the Insta360 Link has. If video quality and color accuracy are a premium and you are not interested in any of the features that come with the insta360 Link, the new Razor Kiyo Pro Ultra beats out the Elgato Facecam pro in both resolution, color accuracy, and REAL bokeh effects for $300. Different strokes for different folks, but the videos out the more of the Facecam Pro compared the New Razor Pro Ultra are very interesting. But again, if it just the video, than I still think $300 without those extra gimbal/ai tracking features is too much when you can buy used mirrorless cameras for just a little more. At the end of the day..we all get to choose for ourselves what we like or don’t like, and I am just thankful to be able to provide a video that helps people find peace with their decision to love it, like it, or hate it. Many blessings my friend! 👍🏻

    Very thorough review. I do IT consulting, and one aspect of remote/WFH that is difficult compared to in-person meetings - is whiteboarding. Doing this with a conferencing platform's digital whiteboard is just clunky and not the same. This looks like a great solution to help fill that gap. Likely a feature not needed by 99.9% of people - but for those that could use it - it is great to see some R&D put towards it.

    The difference between f2.0 and f1.8 is actually 1/3 stop. This is not “huge”, as claimed in the video, this is 33% difference in the amount of captured light. If we go further and make proper comparison considering actual sensor size with effective image brightness, Elgato Facecam Pro with f2.0 and 1/1.8” sensor gives 85.7% brightness, and Insta360 Link with f1.8 and 1/2” sensor gives 87.2% brightness. It’s literally 1.5% difference.

    That Insta360 Link seems nice to have. I like the fact that its AI tracking, and how it follows you everywhere, but to be honest, I think I’m gonna stick with the ElGato Facecam Pro because I’m planning on doing a lot of streaming in VR mixed reality, and I want my camera to stay in one shot, and not moving all over the place. Whenever I crouch down, I don’t want my camera getting shots of the floor. I have 2 ElGato Green Screen XL’s, and no backdrop or green floor tiles to key it out, plus I’m using a VR mat, so I don’t want the floor being seeing. I want the camera only facing me, and the upper part of my body.

    Facecam pro is great for quick motions since it is the only one of the big 3 webcams that has 60fps. You can turn off auto tracking on the 360 link if you want it to stay put, but again, only 30fps compared to the 60fps of elgato will probably suit you better for smoother video footage 👍🏻

    Nice video. I dont know if it's the editing or the camera, but for me, the audio and video sync was way off and the frame rate was pretty poor. I haven't used either, but I wouldnt buy this camera at $300 because the frame rate was so low and the sync issues. Just on the a6000 comparison, the a6000 doesnt act as a webcam natively so needs a capture card, a DC battery and a decent lens to be used, so its going to be well over $600 realistically to get up and running typically.

    It was me, operating error in my editing software. I recorded everything in OBS at 60 frames per second and then imported the video, edited it and rendered it at only 24 frames per second in divinci resolve (which a BIG no-no!) always keep your frame rates consistent when rendering videos. I always use my M1 Mac mini for editing and my settings are always set to 60 in resolve, but for this video I air dropped everything to my m1 MacBook Pro to edit and post this video because I was out of my studio for a couple days. I forgot to change my settings on my laptop, and then end result was what you see. In my other video comparing it to a Sony ZVE10, I corrected the issue in my editing software, I also used the webcam in my last two videos I posted in which I needed to use a webcam for a PIP box for a screen capture clip. I use this webcam all the time, pristine picture image, and the tracking make it an excellent second camera setup when you need the camera to follow your face/body around as you stream. 👍🏻

    Like the review and I have to say that the built-in mic has way to much empty hall type of sound and I would say just do away with it or give an option to have it or not, better yet a lavalier mic, I understand you have no sound deading on the walls as you stated, but where as the mic you use "white & Black one" you sound more natural and I still see no sound deading on the walls. Also what is single-tap tracking? You did mention it but did not exopand on it. The one thing that puts a bit of load on the system is H.264 rather than H.265 that is much better that I have notiice in just gaming videos and the 4k30 that is going backwards when you look at where tech is going today and beyond.

    The design of the room helps when you focus most of the treatment below the shoulders, as they angled ceilings deflect the sound back down. I had a thick, cushy, fluffy futon, thick shaggy carpet on the floor, and a thick blanket hanging on the wall behind the computer. I have since switched to lots of sound proof paneling on the ceiling and walls since then after I moved some of the furniture out to make room for easier workflow with different camera scenes, a different desk for opening a video, different desk for unboxing videos, etc. single tap tracking helps return the humble back to center if it loses you when moving around. 👍🏻

It’s not even a matter of not trusting any company’s privacy policy, but not discounting any hacker’s ability to get into my system and spy on me. Call me old fashioned, but if it can see or hear when plugged in, then I make sure it’s not plugged in or uncapped. 👍🏻 outside of that, I am live-streaming or recording content for KZread, so privacy is out the window when it is connected and in use. 😎👍🏻

I do teaching and most of my work is done behind the desk or at most within a couple of foot from the cam to stand up and explain something on board. If you plan on sitting at your desk and standing up I would definitely get the Insta360 link. It has auto zoom, auto focus, and you can maneuver the lens to focus on your whiteboard and it also will auto adjust the natural “yaw” it to look flat on the viewers ’ screen instead of on an angle. For teaching this thing is a such a gem. I also create videos lessons for teachers to play for their students, and I can start talking from my desk, and move to the whiteboard and then the tv mounted to the wall and the camera follows me. No pausing, no editing, just a smooth single shot. The only downside compared to the Sony ZV e10 is that the Sony can be used inside, outside, for other things for teaching, but for just a teaching standpoint , the Insta360 Link is a better option by far because it is like having a person in your room to be a camera man without actually having that person! Side note : I actually used the 360 link again to record my next video that I am working on instead of only using my ZV E10 because I wanted to be able to move around..and it was easier when I needed it to autofocus from a distance.

    it's a bit disingenuous to compare the f-stop values and not the sensor sizes. You imply the Insta360 lets more light in, but that's immaterial if the sensor is half the size, for example

  • @levelupwithmikenewman

    @levelupwithmikenewman

    11 ай бұрын

    For me, Sensor size is a determining factor for raw image FOV…as far as light, F-stop is the better measurement for low light performance. My Sony ZV-E10 is an APC camera with a cropped sensor is an amazing camera for low light performance, even out performing some Full frame cameras out there. there is no perfect measurement, truly comes down to the camera quality and it’s performance. In these webcams, the sensor in the Link may be smaller but it’s low light performance still outperforms the other webcams to me with the larger sensors. So I mention the lower f-stop on a webcam with a smaller sensor to inform the viewers that they make an intentional effort to outperform the Facecam Pro in low-light. No intention to mislead, just important to mention that because the sensor size is not as big as the Facecam pro, it still out performs other webcams in low light because it still has a lower f-stop than the others to counter the deficiency in sensor size. Have a blessed day my friend. 👍🏻

    Why the quality when you are in brown sweater is worse when you you was in black jacket?

  • @levelupwithmikenewman

    @levelupwithmikenewman

    Жыл бұрын

    I assure you This was intentional. Webcams have always struggled in poorly lit rooms, and dark clothing. I wanted an honest review of the product, so I always make them work for it. When doing any camera review, the better the quality camera the better they are at minimizing noise in dark environments. Dark rooms with black tops helps the viewer to see just how much noise bleeds into your video image. This video is so my viewers can see how this camera works in all environments, not just studios with great lighting, and bright colors for clothing. $300 is A LOT for a webcam. So I wanted to really push the auto exposure for my viewers with dark tops and darker rooms. I went with a brown top to really show how good (or how bad) the auto exposure is. The main crowd that loves this webcam is the community of educators, business people, live streamers who need a webcam that can follow them around the room when they are presenting information to their viewers. They do not all have or use this webcam in well-lit studios, think to dress in colors that are better for live-streaming or video calls when they go to work to teach a class or business meeting. So in this video, I put this webcam to the test by not making this a commercial for the Insta360 as other channels have done, but a preview into what it does in bright rooms, dark rooms, dark clothes, light clothes, so they know what they are buying BEFORE they use it for themselves. I want to make sure my viewers know I don’t make go out of the way to just make a product look amazing and never show it’s weaknesses. my videos are so my viewers can see what it does well, not so well in an THEIR typical everyday situation. The video I included of me outside shows how well it performs in 100% daylight (true 5600k lighting) and in the house in normal house lighting, and in the studio with black and brown tops show you how the auto features perform when a person who is using isn’t interested in doing anything extra other than plug it in - and start streaming to your class, your office, or your livestream community. 👍🏻 I am more interested in making videos for the viewers that show what it can do when you try, and also what it can do when don’t care to bother…for my viewers on this channel. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate your question. I hope this helps you as well as any other viewers to know I am not not never will be a “salesman” for the products I review, but simply somebody who is willing to spend a week of my time to open the box for you, plug it in, and see what it can do for the those who know how the good, the bad, and the ugly and want a camera that can simply not make them look like an Osama bin- laden video from a cave and oh yeah…be a virtual camera man for them in their setup. Lol. Have a blessed day my friend and thank for watching this video!! 😁👍🏻

    I am in your camp, webcams still too high, but for others they are a God-send for no ice streamers. The value of the webcam honestly falls on the the person. I would prefer to save the extra money and get a used mirrorless camera at that price, but for some that have no intentions of trying to learn video settings, capture cards, etc, they are willing to pay a premium for 4K imaging with no hassle. Webcams are getting so good, but also very expensive for those who ultimately want to go the route of an actual camera that can serve multiple purposes, as well as be the family camera for pictures or videos when needed. Webcams are truly “set it and forget it” one-trick ponies which can make that price pretty steep.

    No doubt they have a new webcam that has some cool features like background blur and improved color accuracy, like the Razor Kiyo Pro Ultra….but unless they unveiled another webcam that has AI tracking with PTZ, then I am sticking with my opinion on this one. If it doesn’t have that, I would rather just buy a mirrorless or dslr camera that I can upgrade through better lenses over time than a really expensive webcam that isn’t upgradable. 😁 that is the one thing that will move me to recommend a REALLY expensive webcam over a Sony a6000, or equivalent Canon for their first video capture device or an elgato Facecam for just $150 if you want to hold off on the camera setting learning curve. But in the end, they are all opinions, all different because our needs are always different. Nobody is going to buy one of these webcams and have buyers remorse with the picture quality. Just comes down to what do you need it for. 👍🏻🙌🏻😁

    No doubting it’s color accuracy it was sets it apart from the rest, but for me …the facial tracking to keep my face in the PIP box is the game changer that my $2000 camera can’t even do. Quality is close enough in PIP for me and keeping me framed when I move around in my reviews for split screen shots makes this one true king for me. If the Razor could do that and have that color accuracy too - ooh baby! Still can’t argue with you it’s features make it the king in your book. They big 3 are all great for very different reasons. 👍🏻

    Subs are definitely overrated, even Mr.Beast, Linus Tech Tips, etc will be the first to tell you that. it’s your views and the quality of your content that people notice. Elgato, BenQ , Samson, Maono, FiFine and quite a few more reach out to me as well regarding videos I have made. I have turned down almost half of the offers I have gotten because I do not like the product or we cannot agree on my ethics policy. KZread wants you focus on subs but companies, sponsorships, partnerships are ALL based on your views and quality of content. 😁👍🏻

    @@levelupwithmikenewman the only problem i have with your review is your reviewing a product that you dont own i checked your channel and snd see any videos of the Facecam Pro As the pro has alot of Ft that you didnt put as there is tracking which tthere is face tracking that moves left right up down. but not as a gimbal. you can put the camera in portrait mode. the Pro can be used with Elgato Stream deck. which can control all the Ft of the camera like Zoom, Contrast, Shutter, ISO, Tilt, Focus, Change the Res and FPS, Add background Blur/Bokeh, add Green, Add Video Background< Full A.I Support. Works & Need to be Used with Nividas GPU, and the Pro can get better Res if you no how to use it with out using the Camera Hub Im working on a Video Now on it. yes the OBSbot is a good camera but i dont wanna give up 60FPS for a 30FPS image. BTW streamers are not using OBSbots or 360 as e need 60fps as there will always be audio delay on a 30fps webcam. this is why us streams use DSLR cameras to keepp up with ill gameplays

    no, video is not sponsored, paid, etc. the 4 main webcams are all know for providing one feature to stand out above the others. Facecam Pro has the 60fps, Razor for the color accuracy, and the Insta360 Link for the PTZ gimbal and AI tracking. For me, personally, the functionality of this webcam is a Godsend for me for facial tracking to keep me face in the frame of the shot in PIP mode, guests on other podcasts, and zoom calls. The ability to capture footage that can only be done by having a second person be your camera man in your studio is what make this the best of the bunch. If I wanted pure picture quality only, I would go with a cheap older mirrorless camera, which outperforms all of these webcams without even being in 4k. If the 60fps is more important than the Elgato will be your top choice, color accuracy the razor being number one, and if you want to expand your capabilities to create UNIQUE footage, shots, and be able to move around during a live stream and ALWAYS be in the shot, than the Link is the best. For me, I want to be able to have a camera THAT IS MORE THAN A ONE-TRICK-PONY for a $300 webcam. For me, this makes the 360 the king of webcams when determining which webcam is REALLY worth the $300 price tag.

    It can be concerning for some people. You can use it without installing the software as a webcam in OBS and still be able to use AI tracking if you do not like privacy policies. I personally do not worry the user agreement because if you carry a cell phone, Apple, android, the government all know where you are, what you’re doing, and what you say. Every app tracks you, Apple tracks your every move through location services on your iPhone. Once you have a cell phone, everybody already knows what they want to know. Lol. If you really start reading the user agreements for apps on phones, computers, cell phones, you quickly realize the train left the station for true privacy anymore. So as long as I use an iPhone and not an old burner flip phone, the insta360 doesn’t bother me. Got nothing to hide, in fact they probably realized by know how boring my life is 🤣😂🤣

    $300 FOR A WEBCAM?

  • @levelupwithmikenewman

    @levelupwithmikenewman

    No, $300 for a camera man in your studio that captures 4K footage with a built in mic, for classrooms, churches, livestreams, TikTok’s, podcasts. I cringe at any webcam for $300, but in 💯% honesty it does not feel, act, or perform like a webcam, but rather feels more like a mini-PTZ optic camera for professional studios. You won’t be wrong for saving up for a Sony ZV E10, and you also won’t be wrong if you decide to get this one either! Either way…you’ll be a happy camper!
