Practice what you know already about finance and make it work for you. More actions on previous knowledge will bring greater results than trying to gain more knowledge. No offense intended.

Picking individual companies is not random selection from the Russel 3000. If you are going to make random selections, then yes, buy the whole market.

Talk about this book? Not sure, but it is a bit newer than many of the other most popular books in the genre... so maybe it just hasn't had enough time to get as much traction yet? Difficult to say. Still I'm glad you got something out of the summary :)

DIVERSIFICATION IS WAY OVER RATED...don't perpetuate the myth that everyone needs it - if you know your investments well you do not need many of them.

i retired in my forties. believe me, live very, very frugally for the first five or ten years, to the point that if you see someone you know is on food stamps then try to eat cheaper than they do. if that's not for you then make sure you are stinking rich or retire later.
