I love your perspective & I agree!! I've spent soooo much money & still do struggle to not buy every single thing out there! It's crazy & right now I'm making myself not buy anything else & use what I have. I have boxes full of expensive paints & pigments I haven't even used yet, but kept buying. So far I've gone 2 months without buying anything! It's been tough lol but im sticking to it! Beautiful painting as always Cindy 🥰♥️

Many thanks Heather. I did the same thing a few months back. I too had every color one could want...not need. We all forget that we can combine the primary colors to make many, many other colors and different hues if each. Quite often when I am choosing my color pallet I pick 2 contrasting colors.. from there I divide the color, add white to some and black to the other... I now have 6 colors.. We all forget color mixing 101. Good for you using up what you have before repurchasing. Its always amazing what you can do when we set our minds to it. Cindy

But I can see that using them helps me get more comfortable and hopefully I will be able to eventually master those pallet knives! Many, many thanks for joining me. I totally get the challenge with Swiping! I've been there. Try as many tools as it takes, wet paper towel, small bits of card stock. I found that the swiping took had to be somewhat flexible to begin with. I had the hardest time when I first started. Sometimes it's as simple as how it feels in your fingers and how gentle you can be. I think playing cards would be quite rigid to learn with.. I was terrible at pushing way to hard and digging into the underlying paints. Just try to glide it over the top. You will get it! Happy Easter to you and yours. Cindy

Great advice and guidance Cindy. It’s so easy to get caught up, with the myriad of pouring mediums and the right brands of Acrylic paints. By the time we get that together, then it’s worrying whether or not you have the right consistency for the particular technique you want to do. By the time you think your ready, the please and fun of actually pouring, is gone. This swipe is beautiful 😍. Take care, sending love from Australia ♥️💥🙏💐💐

No kidding Fiona.. I agree 100%. I remember when I first started, followed 5 or more artists, baught exactly what they taught and had absolutely no sucess. I actually stopped my fluid journey for over a year. I felt like such a looser and wanted to toss everything out the kitchen window. When I decided to try it again I began with a much less eagerness to achieve amazing and I just settled on ok... that is when things changed and I realized I could do this. You can mix exactly like the pros and not get anywhere close to what they can do. Experience speaks volumes and getting good at anything is a right of passage. No one ever got good on their first try.. And let's not forget that environmental factors play a huge role in the world of paint. I always feel so bad for people I see struggling with certain techniques... I get it. There are so many people that do not have access or funds to purchase all of the "have to haves".. this was intended as just a simple reminder that you don't really need all the stuff.. I did similar years back with photography. I am a good photographer with a knack to see things others miss. I decided I should actually take course and really learn how to use my camera. That course became so over whelming with technical jargon that I found I had lost my creative eye.. I began to focus on aperture values and time values and a bunch of other crap. I totally lost my creative eye and my natural instinct. It quickly became very unrewarding and no longer fun. Now I keep everything as simple and uncomplicated as possible. Life is way to short to get wrapped up in technology and science.. I am pretty free spirited and just enjoy embracing where my journey takes me. Cindy

I'm sure there are so many less expensive alternatives to many of these techniques if a guy just had the time to sit and experiment. What ratio are you measuring your glue/water pm? Hi Macska, the purpose and intent of this video was to give viewers the chance to realize that pouring mediums were not always necessary in fluid art. Many folks are unable to access or afford costly paint and mediums and are not aware that they can create without using a pm. Pouring medium would be defined as a substance added to acrylic paints to increase flow and alter viscosity allowing them to flow more freely. There are no additives in these paints... straight up. Are you possibly thinking of Floetrol and Minwax polyacrylic mixed together as Pm? Minwax wood conditioner has very different properties and is generally added to a cell mix only to create cells and lacing. (A cheater recipe to Aussie floeteol). I would think if you added wood conditioner to all of your paint it would result in a silicone type reaction through out the piece. 😀. Cindy

Hi Lisa, I have a couple but I must say I change my pm quite frequently. At this point (when I am using pm) its a 50/50 mix of artist loft pm/valspar season flex base c. If it seems a bit thin I add a blob of Elmer's glue all or Behr 8300 (I'm not fond of Behr). I mix each color with medium and then evaluate the consistency to see if I need to thicken or thin. Cindy

Lol.. I was just talking about this.. the truth be told I don't know. They can definitely be stretched out further by simply using more paint. What I don't know is how lightfast they would be over time. Having said that I have pieces that I painted at least 4 years back (brush work).. they are exactly the same color as they began. Even some of the high quality paints won't hold color, every pigment is different. It would be a super fun experiment doing a large fluid piece with these cheap paints just to see. I resin all of my tiles and I think the resin probably yields some protective quality as well... Cindy

Well, I came to this video because it says "No medium", only to find out you actually use Floetrol & Minwax which are definitely mediums, Also you keep repeating throughout the video that this art doesn't need to be expensive, yet you're using Amsterdam & Tlp which is definitely not cheap. Saying things and not show anything from what you described in the title is not cool. Very disappointing.

Hi I'm not really sure how to respond to your comment without coming off as sarcastic or snappy so if I sound that way it is absolutley not my intention. First off I'm sorry if you feel you were mislead. I did not use any pouring medium in my paints they were straight out of the bottles. Acrylique brand from the Dollartree costing $1.50 a bottle. My objective of this video was to show people that they can still create without the expense. I believe I gave a full and honest disclosure regarding additives in my cell mix. Again I'm sorry you feel different. Minwax wood conditioner and floetrol mixed as a cell activator is not a pouring medium..it is a cell activator which I used for nothing more than to create a little different texture. I could have created depth and greater visual interest by simply using a darker color. Pouring medium is a substance added to acrylic paints to increase their pouring ability and viscosity. Perhaps you are thinking about pm made with floetrol and minwax polyacrylic? Completely different product, creating a much different result. Cell mix (used in blooms and swipes is a totally different thing) not added to paints but mearly swiped over the top. Perhaps rather than feeling mislead or disappointed you could see past one swipe and see the creative ability with Dollar store paint mixed with no medium. I personally use many pm mixes and many additives in my general work, this was to provide encouragement for folks that are unable to access or afford the more costly products. TLP & Amsterdam paints are definitely costly products and ones that many cannot afford, it was added for just a bit of sparkle. I appreciate your comment and honesty. I'm happy with the final outcome and know that many, many viewers were able to see through one swipe and a bit of sparkle. Cindy

@@acrylicpouringwithcindyvan9173 OK, first I apologize for coming out a bit harshly, it was after looking for a specific subject and finding lots of videos "offering" things that just weren't true, it's tiresome to watch 5 minutes of every single video and find out it is not what they specified in the title - Because it was a big waste of time that I didn't have. That said, I feel a little cheated by your video because your work looks like that because of the TLP and the other stuff you added and not the cheap paints... So it isn't fair to give others the impression they will get this results with dollar store paints. Because they won't. I use cheaper brands and mediums and the paintings doesn't look like what is in your video. Maybe it's more of a verbal encouragement than a visual one but I still felt it needed to be said, and I thank you for understanding my point of view.
