"... The speed at which the sakura blossom petals fall... Five centimeters per second."
Hey guys, I know it's Halloween, but for this Friday's upload, I'm not sure why I got reminded of 5 Centimeters per Second. Consequently, I re-listened to Masayoshi Yamazaki's amazing song, "One more time, One more chance".
I find it incredible that the simplest songs are usually the ones that hit the hardest. Who knows how many years it has been since I've watched the movie, yet I still tear up when I practice this song...
5 Centimeters Per Second is one of my favorite movies because of how realistic it is. It's really just real life - people love, people forget, and we usually don't see it because of time, and distractions of life. But if we see the exact same even fastforwarded in a 2 hour movie, suddenly it opens our eyes. It lets us see what we usually don't, what we usually take for granted. And that ability is something I really respect with this movie - it has affected me emotionally so greatly, and I'm sure I'm not the only one :3
No midi this time, because I played on the grand piano. My digital piano has better audio recording, but I'm fixing the A-key so I had to record on the acoustic.
Well, I hope you guys enjoy. I'll be playing the End Theme of 5 Centimeters Per Second next week.

“Like two passing trains” “What?” “Two trains that are going in two different directions. They are perfectly aligned for a moment, but that moment can only exist in that one place and can’t be taken anywhere else.” Even though Takaki didn’t believe that his words were strong enough to convey the feelings he harbored, I think this metaphor does it perfectly.

*"The truth of the Universe"* "Akari: I wonder... They say it's 5 centimeters per second. Takaki: what is?.. Akari: The speed at which cherry blossom petal fall. It's five centimeters per second. Takaki: Hmm... Akari: You didn't know? Takaki: Nope. Akari: It was in one of the illustrated encyclopedias I read. There were other speeds too. For example... Rain is 5 centimeters per second. Clouds are one centimeter per second. And-.. Takaki: Clouds? How fast they move in the wind? Akari: Nope, how fast they fall. Takaki: Clouds fall? Akari: Yep, they seem light, but apparently they're falling. It's because they are collection of raindrops. As they slowly fall, the droplets grow bigger. The raindrops turn into snow and they fall. Takaki: Hmm.... Akari (smiling and runs away)" Dude, this is my favorite quote of all time. It retells entire human life. Such a beautiful metaphor. This movie/manga/LN is masterpiece, in my opinion. It will live in my heart forever. Please, play "Distant everyday memories", it's another one famous beautiful piece by Tenmon from this movie.

I gues I had a similar experience with Takaki, we use to talk all day chatting at late nights, even at classroom while our teacher is discussing (since she is my seat mate). She already have a boyfriend that time though I haven't realized that I have feelings for her that time, after a few months she broke up with her boyfriend, she asked me to comfort her and eventually lead her always sticks around to me like a clingy girlfriend (though we still aren't in lover relationship), we grew closer and I slowly began to realise that I have feelings for her. Our graduation came and after the ceremony she came to congratulate me and she said to me that she had to move to other country, felt devastated and I still didn't have the courage to confess to her that time because I didn't think it was the right time since she just broke up with her ex (reason because the guy was a douche as she described). We still talked at that time but it got less and less until eventually we stopped talking after a year and still I haven't confessed to her, I still think that It would be different if I had confessed to her. It has been six years and I'm still not moved on by it. Though I'm happy for her that she already have someone that would truly love her.

Honestly 5 centimeters per second is one the anime/ anime movies that I regret watching the most. It wasn't because it was bad, it was because of how realistic it was and how none of it ended in the way I wanted it to. It sounds a bit selfish that it couldn't have been the ending I wanted. Another reason I regret watching it because of how sad it is. It's one of those animes you can only watch once because if you watch it again you know you're gonna be hurt over and over again. Last reason why I regret watching it is because I want to watch it again but If I try to watch it again I spoil everything for myself and I can never enjoy it the way I did when I first watched it. I have to say whenever I see the number 5 I'm reminded of everything. The quote "The speed in which the Sakura blossom petals fall... 5 centimeters per second" that quote will stay with me for a long, long time. Either way, amazing playing as always as expected. I figure I would use this time listening to you play to reflect on the movie that touched me emotionally I watched so long ago. I hate it but I love it. Keep up the uploads Ishter!

For those who learned about this song from 5cm/s, Yamazaki-san(the singer) make this song as a tribute for his wife who passed away in japan 1995 earthquake. 5cm/s really use this song to the outmost but if you understand the lyrics, you will find this a song of someone who lost his beloved person forever and praying that he can turn back time to see her again....

Firstly, this movie was incredible. I was so confused about the ending, and yet was mostly disappointed because it wasn’t sad as most people promised. I shrugged it off, and after one year, I began to realize how soul-crushing it was. I didn’t forget it, ever. I felt jealous of how Tataki was able to move on, when I couldn’t from this anime. Though it was simple, it connects to reality. How long-distance relationships are, growing up in life. You really can’t get what you want and good things never last. I finally realized it, what it was. It was an amazing movie that reached me. I think it’d take me years forever to move on, though.

I didn't know you have posted the sheet music for this in your description all these years. I picked up Piano by myself in 2017 and generally learned some pieces following the tutorials on KZread but this is a piece I will definitely save to learn one day- first I must learn how to read sheet music! Although I've left piano for the past years, this is genuinely one piece I have to learn so I can play it for myself to feel the emotions of this story and whenever I feel the same. One of my most favourite stories and songs.

This anime is so much about reality that its not a fantasy where two childhood friends fall in love, later get married. Its the harsh reality where most people forget their childhood crushes and friends when u have new ones. This character is shown with the main girl(i forgot her name i watched it a long time ago), she actually moves on where the main guy(same goes for his name), too is like many other people but he actually fails in moving on. He forget how real love or actually feeling alive means so continues to live in a make beleif world of his own. But when he is hit by realization he falls into depression like many others in the real world. These days millions of the same story is happening in the world and this movie portraits it in the best way possible.

it was so weird. i thought i wouldn't cry, i felt sad, but it wasn't enough for me to cry not until this song played. The moment its first note was played, i suddenly felt a flash of sadness within me flowing and i cried and cried so badly. the lyrics, the song, the flashes between akari and takaki's lives. how akari moved on while takaki still held on to that pain and regrets so badly. it was just... so sad.

This movie is so beautiful. It's been years since I last saw this movie and until now, I still get emotional whenever I listen to this song. This always reminded me of my first love, and like Takaki, I don't think I will get over him. Like the songs says, "searching for you even if you couldn't be at such a place"--this is how it has always been for me. I'd search even if it's just a small fragment. I don't know how long I'll keep going like this, but I'm sure I wouldn't love someone as much as I did with him. (sorry for this I just wanted to release all these feelings) Thank you for playing this. It is such a great song.

I was happy that at least in the end Kanae followed Takari and they end up seeing each other again. Unfortunately, it was shown in the manga but not in the anime so just read the ending it truly broke my heart how he was finally able to let go of akari after so many years. And the fact that Akari HAD to move on just cause she thought Takari never liked her. Maybe things would've changed if Takari had not lost the Letter for Akari. They would've confessed to each other, and their fates would've changed. But their fates was so different that it wasn't meant to be for their love story. That's why to me... the message is that, every single choice is impactful because you never know how such a simple choice can change the outcome for the rest of your life.

Nature already conspired against the two. We can see it when Takaki lost his letter. Or when since the two were still little kids. This is what happened when two close people are just not destined to be together. Sad... and pain. But that's what makes us alive. Stay strong. Stay alive. Because if we love that person, we shouldn't die for him/her, but we have to stay alive.

You know what sucks worse? Having it happen to you TWICE. I thought I learned the first time so I kept my distance the second time, after she rejected me for the final time. But after, she kept trying to get my attention. For 2 years while I was wary. I left because I wasn't playing no games with her non-commital ass, especially when her actions could also be read as friendly not just flirty But over the two years since I've started wondering if I was too rash. She made me feel things I never felt before with the electricity and locked gazes, smiling, touching. And she tried to get my attention for 2 years while I basically ignored her leading me on. Some times I even tried flirting back because my defences were down due to her actions, but I wouldn't get reciprocation so my guard went back up. Then next day she's flirting again. Maybe I should cut her some slack because she's nervous and shy and regretful. So I contact her for the first time in 2 years to make sure she's safe from COVID-19 since she's got underlying health problems. If she gets sick or dies and I didn't reach out to her before then, I'd regret it. Turns out she's fine and she's 6 months pregnant. She even said before she'll never want kids. Wtf fml man.

Я шокирован от того как здесь подобран текст. Он потрясающ, он точен и проникновенен. И исполнение тоже выше всяких похвал. В общем, браво.

These are the most beautiful lyrics I've ever seen. The message and the power they carry, it's like the writer found a way to grasp his feelings and his soul and used them to create these words. Now that's what I would call a real masterpiece. Oh, and of course, a wonderful cover as always.

Hey man, you have uploaded this video 5 years ago on my birthday. It really inspired me to start playing the piano and now 5 years later I'll be going to try to play this piece. Thanks for the great video's.

This movie's ending has torn my heart into shreds. It is much different than his later works where the ending is at least somewhat happy in a way. The ending here was not I had expected and it hurts so much to the point of breaking out in tears at any moment. (Actually breaking in tears when writing this)

Yama-chan is really good for practicing, but the digital piano is king of recording, really. The Yamaha in a small living room with regular mics is a downgrade in sound quality :P (but nothing beats it for practicing though~)

That's cuz 5cm is a symbolic anime. You kinda have to see the whole thing as one rather than what happened in the ending. People who tries to find a concrete meaning will feel disappointed XD. I think the narration before they played this song summarizes the author's purpose of this anime

~ishter-kun~ I think that, recording in a small living room, is probably one of the coolest parts of home-acoustic recordings (not that I'm complaining about better audio quality from your digital). It makes it seem like we are are right there beside the piano listening to you play; it feels a lot more genuine :)

    Damn the song was masterpiece even after all this years....this piano cover. I just felt great sorrow and sadness even though I dont have any reason to....its just sad. That train scene. The MCs are like that train. It symbolises them...where they would always meet yet wont cross path.. they were so close yet so far. They are two trains where they are only able to meet and will always be close but arent meant to cross paths with each other ;

this song reminds me the painful times I've been with the person who I devoted myself into for 10 years. Today, I no longer seek the person but finding MYSELF, who I lost in the process is still a struggle. I'm still an empty shell with lost purpose

One of the few pieces of "anime music" I utterly adore. All I can say is thank you for covering it so beautifully, although with a few tiny errors in timing here and there, but who cares when the rest of the piece is as incredible as can be.
