One Light Studio Portraits - 3 Different Setups
Фильм және анимация
Hello again!
These are three of my favorite ways to light for portraits using one light in the studio.
So far this is the most instructional video I've made so far, so please let me know what you think in the comments below. I'm still super new to KZread and appreciate all the feedback.

I LOVE this shoot! I would love to shoot like this every day. Great model, great lighting, great commentary. And I totally recognized the sound of that shutter! The 5D Mark III is one of my main cameras. Thanks for posting this!

Hahaha love my 5D3 💖 glad you’re on the same gear!
❤❤❤ your teaching instructions.. clear & simplified, with great review adding sketch drawings after each setup. All 3 portraits were great, my favourite was #2 with the hair flipping. Looking forward to more inspiring videos from you guys.🥰

As someone who uses one light a lot, I really enjoyed this. The drawings are well done and quite helpful in really understanding what you did in each set up. I look forward to many more of these videos.

Good stuff Renee! I really like how you buttoned up the segments with the little drawings. That's a great way to lock down the specifics of each lighting layout into an easy to remember mental image.

Thank you so much! I’ll see what I can do for future videos. Glad to hear the stick figure drawings are such a hit haha
So useful! With the use of the reflectors, such great examples of not only using 1 light but manipulating it. To do different things. Props to your model for having such great awareness of her hair and limbs and fingertips and where the light sources were, you can see her experience and she rocked these photos!! Love these videos, it’s like we can hang out even though are are far away ❤

Hi Renee, great video. Can I just ask if setup two was with a grid or is the dark background just because of distance?
@ReneeRobyn
9 ай бұрын
I had a grid on it 😇 good catch! The distance of the paper to subject changed only by inches between each photo. So the grid is doing all the heavy lifting on light control.
@ReneeRobyn thanks for making this amazing video tutorial on lighting, and I’d love to know what is your camera and lens combo.

Genuine question why a hood and 300mm lens in a studio? You said one light but there is plenty from the studio
For the 2nd set up, can you use a burst mode with a strobe?
@ReneeRobyn
3 ай бұрын
If your strobes can handle burst mode, totally! Mine don’t have a fast enough recycle time with the power I was using.

I don't understand calling this "one light" when there are literally lights everywhere
@gregshawphotography8828
9 ай бұрын
The other lights aren’t affecting the shot. They are for video purposes.
@SA-ho1mu
9 ай бұрын
@@gregshawphotography8828 I disagree with that. The other staged lights are close enough and bright enough that they are influencing the shot. Turn all but one of these lights off and the picture will look completely different. They may night be influencing the shot as much as if they were closer, but they were clearly setup for this photography session. If we call this "one light" then what do we call a session when there is actually only one staged light used? A "really only used one light" studio?
@gregshawphotography8828
9 ай бұрын
You try F/9 at 1/200 ISO 100 and you will get a black frame. The shutter speed isn’t too fast for these lights.
@ReneeRobyn
9 ай бұрын
Hey those are for video lights 😂 because the studio would be very dark and boring with just the modelling light. The video is shot at 50th of a second, f 2.8 at 3200 ISO, whereas the photographs are taken at iso 200, F9, and 200/S. I have photos where the lights didn’t fire and they’re totally black 😂
