One day in COLOGNE, GERMANY | Everything you need to see
On this walking tour of Cologne, Germany I show you all the highlights the city has to offer. We arrive at the Main Train Station in the Heart of the City. The main attraction, the Cologne Cathedral, is located right next to the train station. It’s Germany’s MOST VISITED LANDMARK. We’ll visit the inside of the main building, climb up the South Tower for some stunning views and go underneath the Cathedral to see the Treasury.
We’ll walk north along the Rhine River to the Rhein Seilbahn, a gondola that crosses the Rhine River, walk through the Rheinpark, head up to the observation deck of the Köln Triangle for views of the Cathedral from the other side of the river, cross over the Hohenzollernbridge, which is covered with over 500,000 love padlocks, stroll through the Rhine Garden with its colorful houses and restaurants, check out the Deutzer Bridge for the views, make our way to Deiters, a costuming store where I talk about the Karneval (Carnival) and ultimately end up at Früh - a traditional German brewhouse where I explain the beer etiquette of Colognians.

The cathedral is an absolute marvel and neither photos nor video do it justice. It is an absolute MUST for any visitor. But do we need to spend half the video on it? Also the gondola opens in April, not March.

I’m sorry you feel like there was too much of the cathedral in the video. Being such a significant landmark I feel like it was the right amount of time. The gondola opens March 17th as per their website. www.koelner-seilbahn.de/
Really good video. Only really knew about the church but now higher up on my to do list. How many days would you recommend? Id want to do a day trip to Dusseldorf at the same time

Thank you Stephen! Glad you enjoyed the video! You can do that your in one day, but I would suggest to stay at least one additional day to enjoy the city more and not rush things. And yeah, Düsseldorf is a great add on for a day. So I would say a total of 3 days.

Yeah, February in Germany is generally cold. Definitely bring some warm clothes and jacket. Enjoy your visit!

Hi Nazeer, that's great that you get to travel to Germany in July! You picked 3 great cities! I would check in travel related Facebook groups for each of the cities. Another option would be the company "Tours by Locals" where locals offer tours in their cities. You could also check Airbnb Experiences which is similar. Hope this helps! My ancestors are from Cologne and it said, from the Schloss Berg/Burg Castle! Some of the older genealogist say we are from royalty. Since doing my genealogy I have found nothing has been proven! My maiden name is from Vonderburg, changed later to Funderburg and we have proof of their arrival at Philadelphia in 1738 from the ship “The Thistle”, leaving Rotterdam and stopping at Plymouth, England. But I tell people our ancestors could have just worked at this castle!

@@petenchelleuk so for traditional German food in a traditional setting unwound go to Früh am Dom, the place at the end of the video. If you’re looking for more of a bar scene, check out the Belgische Viertel (Belgian quarter). There are many bars and you can still get the local beers there. You would just walk west from the city center. Another area to have a relaxing beer would be along the river near the bridge. Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip! It’s a great city.
