Listen to these guys. They know their stuff. Painted my interior with all of their recommends. Project came out awesome. Such a better experience painting with nice gear and paint.

So good to see a new full length Vassar Brothers video! This was awesome. I am not at all shocked with the results though. Even Sherwin Williams Emerald takes 2 coats... so id have been shocked to see some big box store version of their paint do better. Pretty much no matter what - if youre changing colors its gonna be 2 coats.

Awesome a new video from you guys! It's sad to see marketing pushing all sorts of lies in a variety of products. Makes me think of wood filler or spackle saying "no shrinking" yet I always need to do touch-ups.

I guess “no shrink” sounds better than “minimal shrinkage” 🤷‍♂️. The point is we’ll be testing more marketing claims like this 😁

Helpful video! If you're going to the trouble of painting, just plan on two coats.

That would be my recommendation as well. 🫡

Paint companies know that the average DIY person considers painting to be a pain so the companies come out with various claims and products to make the task sound easier. But to me once you have gone to the trouble of clearing out the room to paint, it isn’t that big a deal to add the second coat. There are a lot of people out there who place more value on time than the quality of the paint job so they would think your one coat walls look great and they would consider the job done. I see it all the time when I go to others homes.

Have you ever experimented with applying these with thicker coats, and seeing if that would fulfill the one-coat promise without dripping? These paints are so thick, I'm wondering if they are supposed to be applied differently. (I have no idea, I have never used them)

We laid them down as thick as we could with the coat having an acceptable texture. There’s nothing in the marketing materials that suggests to put the product down thicker. The main takeaway from this video is to plan on doing 2 coats. This is the way

This is still our current load out: My New Paint Load Out // 2023 kzread.info/dash/bejne/lZmt0KeEhJjSn8Y.html I am not a fan of Aura for a variety of reasons. In my experience and opinion Emerald is a much better wall paint and it’s easier to work with.

I responded to your other comment, but you may want to check out ScuffX from Benjamin Moore or Scuff Tuff from Sherwin Williams in either Eggshell or Satin. That should be quite a durable finish.

We tested colors that they claimed would cover in one coat, under conditions that they claimed would work. The products did not perform as advertised. In any event, we always plan for 2 coats regardless of the products that we use. I

Did you test out any of their guarantees?

We were just testing whether or not they covered in one coat. We did not try and call customer support or get our money back. You are welcome to watch the video and see what we did.

We did not, but we will be testing the durability claims of these types of products in a future video that we’re working on now.

"Self prime" and "one coat", yeah, how to insult non-pros...and make life harder for pros. And the excuses they give? "Well, you didn't use the 'proper' roller!", or "Proper primer!", or "You just don't know how to paint!" Of course the problem is when our customers DEMAND one coat, and we have to seat there and explain to them that it is a scam by big-box stores and their as-cheap-as-possible suppliers.

Blue is a very hard color to paint with in my recent experience. The newer painted cover better than the older paints, but you will still need 2 coats.

you are correct and that is the point of the video. One coat coverage was invented in the marketing department.

No such thing as one coat coverage. Same shit DIYer's fall for with the paint and primer in one bullshit
