Cheers mate! I’ll probably cop my fair share of flack for it, but everyone deserves the right to a good days fishing! 😂😂
I fished the square patch area and deep tempest for 20 years. Couple a tips for ya. Find a 9/0 Penn handle. It will plug n play. Makes winding so much easier 2. When you hut the bottom using the 6/0 Penn. ( my favourite ) thumb your lime to one side for 10 winds. Next time you drop, watch your line. Whrn it stays straight stop the drop. . 3. We used no more than an 8 or a 10 ball sinker. Good sounder work. Look from the bottom up. Not the top down. Divide your vertical pixels into your depth. It will tell you how bog your fish are. Gr8 vid mate. Bought back memories. I knew John and Dean for many years. Used to bring Dean Macas when we were going out. . Snapper will rise and take a bait. That run is awesome. We never fished a cup up moon. Always cup tip and over . That banito is gr8 snapper bait. tip 4. Hold ya bait in ya hand. drop ya sinker. Bout 1/4 the way down. Then throw ya bait over. And hang on. 😁

@_OuterLine if you want a good snapper spot around oct nov. Let me know. All you have to know is where the flathead spawn. 🤔 I caught quality snapper there while cleaning fish. 😅 . And if you can fish with no lead in shallow it is wayyyyy better. But there is nothing like that run a snapper gives you in the deep. We love it

Great video mate, going to put all this to the test here in New Zealand tomorrow and see what happens. I’ve always been a braid fisherman and have caught snapper with braid but it would be good to compare. What about if you did a video and compete against a braid fisher to your now favoured Mono as an episode for us and see how that works against each other? Keep up the good work I really enjoyed this video about to watch it for the second time.
Very well put together mate. Well done.

I’ve been inspired, pounded some Boxing Day sales and am now setup with a nice little overhead and some 30lb mono. See how we go in a couple weeks when I can get out with one of the lads again Merry Christmas keep the wicked vids coming 🎄
Braid with a super long leader for me minimum 20 mts in , when you’ve been doing everything your saying I’ve been on the ball for years so no worries . Fish plastics the same as floating a pea sinker dead slimie some days it’s bait some days it’s the plastic . Burly some days can’t be discounted that’s for sure every day is different . Good vid

Once you sound around just tie a normal snapper lead on drop down hit bottom then tie a rubber band on as a depth guide. So when you do start floating the bait back you know how much you have out

Awesome vid, what lbs mono was it? And no leader just straight to a swivel then hooks?
Stop stop stop your killing me Smalls Great tips got to give it a try down south now Cheers
Braid is only good for lures. Mono for bait or live baiting. Also a fibreglass rod over carbon for bait fishing.
Bonito is my absolute favourite sashimi... but one fish that's hardly look at as sashimi is the humble yakka .. if you ever catch a decent size I would recommend for you to try it... you will be surprised how great they taste as sashimi..

South passage bar mate. 40lb mono 👌🏻 Thanks heaps for the nice message 😊
Fishing 50m with mono is hard work and inferior to braid mono combo. Use braid with 40 ft mono leader tied with a locked Albright knot. Far better fish contact, plenty of elasticity and lighter sinkers. The rod tip is also important and Ugly stick configuration is fantastic for the braid leader set up not that beast of a rod you had. Lots of anglers tie braid onto their end tackle without a mono leader and that is a definite no; then losses are high as there is no elasticity in the system (especially with a rod that would be better used with a brush on the end)..

Hi mate, did you run a leader to the hooks or straight mono? And what lb mono did you have?
Adam, I love a scientific approach, so have to consider other variables. What about using braid with a 10+m leader? What about fluoro instead of mono? How would you adapt this approach for the singular larger fish using jigs or plastics?
@_OuterLine
6 ай бұрын
To be honest mate I have always used braid with a 10m leader. And never caught fish like this method does, it’s that effective I was in 2 minds wether to release it, but the bag limits are tight and everyone deserves the best shot at getting a good feed of fish. So I did.
Great vid, thanks for the tips. How heavy was the mono you were using?

No problems at all mate! I do run through setting etc in videos, so keep an eye out or have a watch at a few more and you’ll see them!
What size is the gang hook?
When you break mono to unsnag it it will stretch to the point of becoming useless. Braid will last years longer than mono . Also there is no difference between the two when it comes to catch numbers
@_OuterLine
4 ай бұрын
Ohhh I dunno, still a few tests to run yet!
Awesome mate. What make and model hooks are those?
Another tip is use two rods .When the line angle gets out close to too far cast the second rod out up current and get it going down in rod holder as your winding up.Cheers

40lb mate
my 2 cents worth when i fish for snapper off the rocks i use braid with about 8/9 m of 30 lb mono a 3 way swivel with about 2 feet of 15lb mono for the sinker n about 1.5 feet of 30 on the hook i also feed a bit 2cm of what they call filler rod 12mm wide foam[ used for water proffing in corners and gaps in bathrooms ] up over the hook then put a peice of squid on so when cast out n on the bottom the bait can rise up n not be hidden in the weed etc been doing it for years n works well also i rub the squid on the foam to get some smell onto it cant see why it wouldnt work on the boat to but let the big ones go sounders are cheating
Do you only fish one rod in hand or another in a rod holder. Looks like you don't really strike?

I thought the benefit braid was one's ability to use a lighter sinker, therefore obtaining more bites and hookups.
@_OuterLine
5 ай бұрын
The benefit of braid is that you can feel a lot more what is happening, and you can fit more line in your reel
@richardmason9097
5 ай бұрын
@@_OuterLine I thought you mentioned that the feel you got with braid went both ways, so you didn't like it bait fishing. The lighter sinker is a big advantage.

Furuno 295 with a 200B 8B transducer 👌🏻 this would have to be one of the best fish finding set ups you can get in water up to about 260m
Fish as well as dolphins and whales, can hear and feel vibration and frequency under and in the water, mono will always work over braid. Imagine dragging a piece of sandpaper through the water, it is rough surfaced like braid and leaves a totally different feeling in the water, it has nothing to do with seeing the mono. The fish can feel it.
