I fished the square patch area and deep tempest for 20 years. Couple a tips for ya. Find a 9/0 Penn handle. It will plug n play. Makes winding so much easier 2. When you hut the bottom using the 6/0 Penn. ( my favourite ) thumb your lime to one side for 10 winds. Next time you drop, watch your line. Whrn it stays straight stop the drop. . 3. We used no more than an 8 or a 10 ball sinker. Good sounder work. Look from the bottom up. Not the top down. Divide your vertical pixels into your depth. It will tell you how bog your fish are. Gr8 vid mate. Bought back memories. I knew John and Dean for many years. Used to bring Dean Macas when we were going out. . Snapper will rise and take a bait. That run is awesome. We never fished a cup up moon. Always cup tip and over . That banito is gr8 snapper bait. tip 4. Hold ya bait in ya hand. drop ya sinker. Bout 1/4 the way down. Then throw ya bait over. And hang on. 😁

@_OuterLine if you want a good snapper spot around oct nov. Let me know. All you have to know is where the flathead spawn. 🤔 I caught quality snapper there while cleaning fish. 😅 . And if you can fish with no lead in shallow it is wayyyyy better. But there is nothing like that run a snapper gives you in the deep. We love it

Great video mate, going to put all this to the test here in New Zealand tomorrow and see what happens. I’ve always been a braid fisherman and have caught snapper with braid but it would be good to compare. What about if you did a video and compete against a braid fisher to your now favoured Mono as an episode for us and see how that works against each other? Keep up the good work I really enjoyed this video about to watch it for the second time.

Fishing 50m with mono is hard work and inferior to braid mono combo. Use braid with 40 ft mono leader tied with a locked Albright knot. Far better fish contact, plenty of elasticity and lighter sinkers. The rod tip is also important and Ugly stick configuration is fantastic for the braid leader set up not that beast of a rod you had. Lots of anglers tie braid onto their end tackle without a mono leader and that is a definite no; then losses are high as there is no elasticity in the system (especially with a rod that would be better used with a brush on the end)..

  • @_OuterLine

To be honest mate I have always used braid with a 10m leader. And never caught fish like this method does, it’s that effective I was in 2 minds wether to release it, but the bag limits are tight and everyone deserves the best shot at getting a good feed of fish. So I did.

my 2 cents worth when i fish for snapper off the rocks i use braid with about 8/9 m of 30 lb mono a 3 way swivel with about 2 feet of 15lb mono for the sinker n about 1.5 feet of 30 on the hook i also feed a bit 2cm of what they call filler rod 12mm wide foam[ used for water proffing in corners and gaps in bathrooms ] up over the hook then put a peice of squid on so when cast out n on the bottom the bait can rise up n not be hidden in the weed etc been doing it for years n works well also i rub the squid on the foam to get some smell onto it cant see why it wouldnt work on the boat to but let the big ones go sounders are cheating

Do you only fish one rod in hand or another in a rod holder. Looks like you don't really strike?

Just 1 rod mate, and no I don’t really strike, nice whippy rod and that does the work.

I thought the benefit braid was one's ability to use a lighter sinker, therefore obtaining more bites and hookups.

  • @_OuterLine

The benefit of braid is that you can feel a lot more what is happening, and you can fit more line in your reel

@@_OuterLine I thought you mentioned that the feel you got with braid went both ways, so you didn't like it bait fishing. The lighter sinker is a big advantage.

i think it might change from one season to the next ie in summer the moon might spill to the east [southern hemisphere ] n in winter it spills to the west but im not sure now i will pay more attention an old guy told me that when the moon is spilling it means your more likely to get rain but cant say thats accurate

Fish as well as dolphins and whales, can hear and feel vibration and frequency under and in the water, mono will always work over braid. Imagine dragging a piece of sandpaper through the water, it is rough surfaced like braid and leaves a totally different feeling in the water, it has nothing to do with seeing the mono. The fish can feel it.
