    If you put a CD on a angle Grinder expect the CD to blow apart because of the very high RPM's and yes those pieces will stick into your eyes, face, hands, penis, stomach, and wherever else those pieces hit. Grinding wheels made specifically for Angle Grinders fail and explode from the high RPM's and have caused horrible injuries. I did a little research to see how fast an angle Grinder spins 6,000 to 8,000 RPM's Dewalt has 1 that reaches 11,000 RPM'S. Then I looked up what a CD spins at the max I seen was 500 RPM's so the slowest angle Grinder will spin a CD over 10 times faster than it should be. PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS "trick" because it could kill you or someone else

    You can buy connectors for nine volt batteries. That is pointless and probably cost more than just buying a clip. OMG you can buy cable clips and heat shrink tubing. The stuff is cheap. The broken key one is good, the rest of it is a ridiculous waste of time. The CD could be dangerous if it shatters. They tend to throw shards.

    The CD idea is an interesting one as there's no center core to pop out like sanding and cutting discs do. I still listen to my CDs and watch DVDs but I have some that don't hardly work anymore so I'll try on one of those. I would only use it for light duty sanding.

    Please do not try the CD trick! Angle grinders are very powerful machines that spin crazy fast. CDs are not meant to take that sort of abuse even when you're not putting additional stress on it by pushing it onto whatever you're trying to sand. If it fails, you're looking at some very nasty injuries!

  • @JMcMillen

    @JMcMillen

    Mythbusters tested that back in their 1st season. If you get a CD to spin fast enough, it will shatter. An angle grinder is more than capable of reaching that speed.

    Angle grinders spin at about 10,000 RPM. The chance of a CD or DVD shattering in an angle grinder is virtually 100%. When that happens, the chance of you getting hit with very sharp shrapnel at nearly 10,000 RPM is almost 100%. Don't try it.

    A CD is designed to spin at 200 or so rpm. If you slap some sandpaper and superglue on it, a cd will hold together for 12,000 rpm? I love watching these "genius hack" videos so I can understand how the former Soviet Union stripped so much from the Warsaw Pact countries and left them with nothing so these resourceful people had to fill their lives with unnecessary danger to survive. I realize these specific "hacks" originated from Saudi Arabia, and yes, I believe there are similar regimes in place.

    Why melt a bottle lid to insulate the wire? You could do exactly the same thing, only easier, using the hot glue that you used in the next hack. Dismantling a battery - dangerous. The hack with the CD - dangerous. I can imagine this guy winning next years Darwin Awards. The few hacks that look safe and useful could easily be done just as well, and maybe as cost effectively, by just being something designed to do the job.
