I just don't understand, having watched all 7 seasons... [spoilers] ...Rumple died in season 3, ...his darkness didn't "go" into anyone. He died at the end of Season 7, ..along with his "wish-version". His heart wasn't even dark at that point anymore. He even gave his heart to Wish-Killian. Killian didn't become the dark-one. Why is this only a problem here?.. When Dark Emma killed Dark Hook, at least it made sense that the darkness just went back to Rumple.

I think it's because here they ripped the darkness out of him and tried to trap it in the hat but it failed so the darkness had to find a vessel because it was bound to the dagger. The other times you mentioned had the dark one kill themselves either with the dagger in season 3 and season 5(Rumple redirecting the magic back to himself sort of makes sense?) or the season 7 death having him willingly saving the life of someone he once hated which destroyed the darkness so wish Killian didn't have it(also a bit hard to explain 😂)

In s3 Rumple sacrificed himself for the greater good. All his power was us s7 he found away to do what Merlyn had said. Turn darkness into light. He possibly did the same thing back in s3 but didnt know he was doing it. Also in s5 the exaliber was meant to destroy the darkness forever. Rumple just used a potion so the darkness wouldnt be destroyed but instead would be transfered back into him. And not just emma's dark magic. But all the dark magic of all the dark ones eho ever lived.

In all the previous times the darkness was destroyed either by the suicide( season 3 which later on could also be considered an act of true love as Rumple had to kill himself to kill Pan), s5 The exaliber had the power to destroy both light and dark magic. But rumple used a potion to change that and instead of being destroyed all the dark magic was transfered into him. Finally in s7 Rumple found how to turn darkness into light. Something we were told is possoble ever since s5 and Merlyn jad said it was the only way to destroy the dark one's power.
