*I* *think* *trials* *and* *tribulations* *in* *life* *in* *general* *make* *one* *stronger.* *Though* *it depends* *on how you deal with* *trauma in your life.* *You can let yourself* *be really brought down* *and you can emotionally hide away.* *Or you can use that* *to develop* *you into a stronger better person.* *More of the person that you know you can be.* She's always been a strong individual but I think this is definitely a point in her life that that's come to a point of realisation that as hard as all the things she's had to do recently are, all the decisions she's had to make- that *if she's not making those decisions* *for herself* *she's gonna* *not be herself anymore.* So why would she want to- just cause *she's not gonna be there* *for anyone else* *if she can't be there for herself-* *physically and mentally, emotionally-* she can't be there to try and help the man she loves as much as she loves him. *It's not gonna work."*

This whole storyline is important for those of us who have had an abusive relationship and worked through the abuse and helped your partner see their true, good self. *disclaimer: it’s not your job to fix anyone; be supportive, and they will either find their way or they won’t. If you are in physical danger, leave.*

All right. How can ANYONE think this power thing is a good idea? We've all seen what happens when he has his power: like nearly becoming completely evil in season 4 and losing his ability to love. He almost lost Belle irretrievably over that, but now somehow they're talking about the magic being a part of him?! No. Just no. He can't have both. Not to mention that he lied to her for the 80th time because of the magic. It turns him into a selfish, nasty person and he isn't going to be able to have that and Belle. It's like they just make things up to write about and forget that it should relate to past events. Remember in season 2, the library scene, when he told Belle magic was a crutch for him? And now suddenly it's the most important thing he has? This makes no sense.

+TheReprobate ! It started with Zelena bringing him back from the dead, killing his son and controlling him in season 3. I guess it sort of broke him. But it's clear that the writers think the character's Dark One-ness is no longer a problem, but something that Belle needs to accept. Which she probably will, given her track record. But yeah, Rumple is not the almost-kindly person he was in season 2, certainly.

DarthRushy Belle won't accept it if he goes back to tearing out people's hearts and other such activities. He did save her from the bear and get Merida's heart back, which I'm pretty sure Rumple from the Enchanted Forest wouldn't have done. I see your point about Zelena and Neal, though.

TheReprobate ! Trust me, the writers will make her see the light and she'll be happy with "the man and the beast", occasionally keeping him under control with the dagger.

No-one's saying that it's a good idea, just that Rumple without being the Dark One still has that hunger for power. And he still wants the power more than he wants Belle or anything else. He realises that it's not good, but he can't live without it either - like the crutch: A person with a broken foot can't walk without a crutch. And Rumple never healed to be able to "walk" without his "crutch"...

Vousie V What about when he saved Belle from the bear without using magic? That was a step in the right direction! And now they're just going to throw that away because he's supposedly nothing without magic/power? They keep making promises, then ruining his every chance. Redemption for Regina, for Hook, for bloody ZELENA, who is responsible for Henry's father's death! Rumple? Nah, screw him.
