This is honestly what made the show so great it wasn’t just done on set in Hollywood but literally filmed in a actual living and breathing town.

You're right, that's fascinating. But I have to correct you: OUAT wasn't filmed in Hollywood. Sure, Storybrook is Steveston and most of the houses and businesses are there (except Regina's house, City Hall, Rumple's house and maybe others - but they're also in the metropolitan area of ​​Vancouver, e.g. in New Westminster). The vast majority of location shots were filmed in Steveston and Stanley Park/Vancouver area. The studio recordings were made in Vancouver (called Hollywood North 😅), the third largest film studios in North America. Hollywood (the real Hollywood 😉) is now shooting a lot in the Vancouver area, except for desert landscapes, there is almost everything there and it is also cheaper.

I grew up in steveston as a kid and nothing has changed since. I live in another province now but go back every summer to visit and its really cool to see many others enjoying my home town and steveston getting the attention it deserves.

Heh, it's funny 'cause I watched this video a couple of times, a while before I went to Vancouver and visited Steveston with my mum last month. Yeah, that guy Nick Constantin who owns the bread store is definitely quite the character. When we went past his shop he poked his head out and chatted with us for at least 20 minutes lol. All the townspeople were very friendly. One thing I'd forgotten about in this video is that they said that Mr Gold's Pawn shop is the only shop that's not actually open in real life and just a movie set. Well, it's a real shop now, it's called It's Posh (just a gift shop) and they had a Rumple cut-out outside the shop and a spinning wheel. Yup. That was super cool. Especially when they said it'd never be open lol.

I went to Steveston in September 2023, The Cannery Cafe "Granny's" still gets fans visiting because of the show. The town looks the same. I met the bread store oener who is very nice and met most oft he cast and watched the show being filmed in front of his shop. I did not want to leave Vancouver BC

OMG that's my dream to go there >.< especially to be on the set, when they're filming.

Grew up in Steveston, worked in a restaurant there this summer, had to deal with all the costume trailers taking up parking spaces XD Yes, the businesses were still open while shooting. Most of the time they'd only use a part of the street for the day so businesses can still work.

That ice cream called Snow White looks really good. I LOVE Snow White, with all my little heart.

I LIVE HERE. and yes, i have watched them shoot some scenes. :D it's kinda surreal. it looks so strange watching your own town that, when shot at the correct angles, doesn't completely LOOK like your town.

I walked through those shops before OUAT made them famous, ahhh!!

Awesome! didn't know it was a real town and how it worked with the setup. I need to go there! Looks like a lovely town

I grew up five minutes away. My Dad used to drive through it to go work as a Fisherman. Its a cozy little rainy town.

I wanna go to that Ice Cream shop and be like "I'll take a Jefferson, a Regina and uhm.. a Mr.Gold, please!".....That would be so cool to say :3

I've been to Steveson, and it was beautiful. Unfortunately, I didn't get to the "Storybrooke" part of it, but I've been to the Quay

WOW!!! SUCH an interesting little film!!

Wow... It would be an absolute dream to be able to live there in the future.

Fun Fact: Steveston was a movie location for scary movie 1 as well as Charlie St.Cloud.

So every store is real except Mr. Gold's? I can understand why they would do that. Can you imagine how crowed it would get in there if they allowed shoppers in? Not to mention the other businesses would have some serious competitions.

I've visited Steveston a few times. A nice little town with friendly people!! Love this show!

I live in Richmond, I ride my bike through steveston all the time.

one building that is not featured in this little clip, is the Town Hall building which is also in Vancouver, but located on the opposite side of the lower mainland in Fort Langley, also another very prominent filming location for many TV shows. Its a large wooden yellow building that has been used in MANY MANY productions.

Yeah, I saw that building as a sort of Town Hall building in a small town in an episode of The X-Files while re-watching the series, the first original five seasons of which were filmed in and around Vancouver. If it wasn't for watching Once Upon A Time now I would never have noticed it was the same building.

I've been to Steveston a lot of times, and it truly is a remarkable place.

Just because of how nice they were about it think about it 1) they set up at an early hour 2) They communicate with the store owners on whats most convenient for them when setting up and taking down 3) Stores remain open as long as they arent shooting there 4) The public is free to even walk near the shooting when its happening you can see the crowd when they change the angle In general they try to be as non disruptive to daily life as possible and thats why it was easy for everyone to get along

Wow, I'd love to go there... take a picture by "Mr. Gold's" store, have an ice-cream of every flavour.. then go to grannys, and then watch how they shoot one (or more) scene(s).. yeah, that would be perfect xD

My town

I am so one those people who visit Steveston to see where it was filmed. Went to days in a row first day was to explore and the second because I saw a sign saying they were filming that day. I must say though that the area is very charming. I've fallen in love with it and am glad I'm only a 2 hour bus and train ride away.

They're so lucky to live in that town!

I would love to be there when they are filming

The library was actually a fishing store but closed down years ago.

Yep, I noticed it right away! And I cracked up because the caption in the movie said "Lone Pine, California", and I've driven through the real Lone Pine, and it looks nothing like Steveston/Storybrooke!

Funny thing happened to me..I was suppose to go to the dentist at steveston and for some reason google map sent right in front of a closed store that said STORYBROOKE PET SHELTER right nxt to that granny diner

I wish it was here on America so bad but its in Canada .-. Pretty close to the state of Washington so it isn't hard to go there for us
