I had the pleasure of seeing this gorgeous and magical show last week, and oh man, was watching Alex blow the roof off with this song an EXPERIENCE :D I can't with how talented he is!!

Just now realizing that Asaka was never really there physically, what we're hearing about are the things that she "provides" like sand and stuff. So Ti Moune is probably just looking around at all that's been provided and knowing that asaka is on her side

@Yade Eliyah I believe you’re absolutely right. The gods are pretty much invisible characters. We can see them as an audience, but the characters don’t see them. The other characters sense their presence, but they are not there physically. Timone is only one physically “interacting” with the gods on stage, because the actors are on stage of course in real life. However, they are essentially invisible because the gods can’t be seen by the villagers. That’s the same impression I got too.

I love this song and it always makes me cry. 😢it makes me feel like im protected and guided by my ancestors. Especially in a delicate time like this. Dealing with police brutality and such. I know they got me. ❤️✊🏽 #blacklivesmatter

This should have been a woman. Women bring life. Period. I am sooo annoyed after being so delighted at the chance to hear this. This is a slap in the face. You can re-interpret any role but MOTHER EARTH....need to be a woman... period.

I'm not sure how Alex identifies, but has played female and trans characters in the past. The show didn't go out of its way to cast a male in the role either, as both understudies are women. Alex was just the best for the role. A woman also plays the usual male character playing Death, and her understudies are also male.
