ONCE IN A LIFETIME landing at Melbourne Airport

Landing a Cirrus SR22 at Melbourne International Airport and taxying to look at the planes grounded due to the global aviation shutdown. Watch my IFR departure, hear Air Traffic Control, watch the landing, see the airport from the ground, and watch the flight home.
It's a real privilege to be able to land at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport whilst our airspace is quiet, but I'm saddened knowing lots of people are out of work because of the travel restrictions currently in place. I made this video to try and get viewers excited about aviation and travel so when we're back flying again hopefully we can get the industry moving quickly and get things back to normal.
Hope you enjoy this landing melbourne airport video, and I hope we're all sharing the skies and travelling again once this crisis is over.

Reminds me of when I was training for my PPL years ago, most of my training was in class G 100's of km away from low level controlled airspace so part of the training was a solo nav exercise into controlled airspace with a landing at a controlled airport. So there I was coming in on final in the 172 at Adelaide airport with a 737 full of passengers holding short waiting for me - no pressure.

Hey Stef, Mate, you have made my day. So many memories of my past you’ve sparked. As you ‘might’ remember, I did a bit of flying in Darwin back in the very late ’90s. I remember flying there as a restricted pilot but had the support of the Darwin controllers. I remember, two specific occasions that are related to your video uploaded. The first one was a dead hot stinking terrible day. Jet wake turb wait was at least six minutes. I taxi down the runway and get onto the tower and much to my surprise the tower said, line and wait even though a 767 was ready. He made the comment, ‘Off you go, good sir, no need to keep you waiting. He then gets on the radio and says to the 767 - Line and wait, brava victor lima is taking off, a student pilot is getting his hours up’ - The 767 responded affirmatively. The 2nd time was coming into land into Darwin, again. I think???? Was a 737 waiting for me ( just as your video ) to land. As so as I hit the ground, the radio call was BVL please expedite your exit onto (what ever taxi way it was). Was such an experience Stef. The mixture of small planes and jets. Hahaha. I haven’t flown in 20 years now. I so do miss it. However, videos like yours instills a passion and joy. Thank you ever so much for your content. You make one Darwin bloke very happy. Take care.

Surely one of your best videos! Brought a (literal) tear to my eye as an ex-Melbournian who’s flys out of Vancouver now. You’re such a MASSIVE inspiration to us pilots!

Hi Stefan! After almost 2 month, it is realy enjoiable to see actually a real person flying in real morld again! Congrats to you for making this dream come tru. As someboby else said, you looked like a child in a toy shop 1 day before christams. Good for you and thanks for making us smile again! A big hugg from northeast patagonia, Argentina.

Cheers Walter, I couldn't stop smiling afterwards as well. A real treat, but I really hope it's the only time I get to do that and the airport starts moving back to normal again now.

Great video mate! My dad was at Ansett for 23 years so it brings back memories seeing so many planes grounded. Hopefully for everyone working in the industry it turns around soon. That looked like it was such a great experience flying in and out of there for ya 🤙 cheers

Yeah that was a hard time for the industry as well. I agree, let's hope we see those planes back in the air again very soon.
