The puzzling thing about this is that even in the 70’s, this was no longer just “a used car”. So, this begs the question of how stupid one must be to just leave it outside to rot?

But never in the same league as the gull wing which was a very limited production run and mainly built for racing. Back in the 70's the roadster was a prestigious car but not of significant value. They were no more valuable than a 20 yr old Mercedes SL would be today.

  • @Mercmad

@@barryrudge1576 Take it from someone ,having driven a few examples of both, the SL is the better car. The gull wing is hot ,noisy and doesn't handle anywhere near was well as the SL ,especially the later M198 engined, disc brake versions. The Gullwing was the street car not to be confused with the First 4 gullwings which were the racing cars. Those again drove better, but I've only driven a replica which is in the US. In fact the gullwing was known as a widow maker in it's day because of the evil handling at speed through turns.

Stupid? Why stupid? What makes you think the past owner has any knowledge or idea of the value of a car. I recently bought a job lot of model railroad stuff in a box. Seller got it in a house clearance and new nothing of model trains. I paid $50 for the lot (full asking price) . I item half way down the box of scrap items was an engine..rare and very expensive which sold at auction for $900. It is amazing the things people have and don't have a clue what they are worth.

It's kinda beautiful, even in that state. I almost like it better that way than after a clinical clean renewal, that kills all traces of its history.

cars like this shouldnt just be sold to the highest bidder but take into account whos best for preserving it.example sell to someone who has a plan to not only do correct restore but has plans on preserving after their gone.and not sell to someone who hands it down to a family member that doesnt appreciate or take care of it right.
