    The red fish is called. Blacktip grouper (Vieille rouge in Mauritian): Variable shades of red, with dark vertical cross bars (not always visible!). Dorsal fins tipped with black. They don't really get much bigger than what you caught. Also very good eating fish.

    I run singles back in NZ exclusively, ive been told for GT to run trebles so that's why I was using trebles, I wonder what would have happened if I were to use singles

  • @CavyFishing

    @CavyFishing

    Singles you miss more! but when you do hook up it usually stays on! Better for the fish also tbh. I haven't been using singles because the brands i was using kept breaking! And the trebles are the only hooks i am producing right now, but hopefully will develop singles also! and barbless versions for each kind of hook. Sometimes its just unlucky! ;) @@JEWildsFishing

    Great video try snagging less if you can the initial grab from the fish and your first snag should get him especially if your running a treble hook but you are snagging it out the fishes mouth lol understandable due to the excitement and if you have doubts about the first snag but you would rather have it spit it out then rip it out keep up the good work !!!

    Mad respect Bruh 🙏 I think you're jabbing her while she's still coming towards you. Stick it hard and quick, then let her turn and run. If you feel you don't have a solid hook-up, jab her once while she's running away from you. Or dangle a few circle hooks on some heavy braid and hang on! Tight lines Brother.

    Gotta say this might be the most fun I've ever had on KZread. Feels like I've been on the best fishing trip ever, only without the sunburn. Only issue I have is with regards to your safety. I hope that in the event that one of you for example, breaks your leg while out on the rocks, do you have access to emergency services to get you help if you need it? I know that when I was younger, we had no cell phones or medical heli's in our area (that I knew of), and an accident was the last thing we thought could happen. Where you guys are fishing, really ANYTHING 'could' happen. Please be safe and take good care!

But I don't think it has anything to do with the way you fight kings. Just...bad luck I guess xD Also, why do you wear a vest in NZ but not in AUS? ;) That landing was sketchy! That spot is wild. Next gt you get beached you should after you remove the hook, check out his mouth an feel it out for soft spots that your hooks might be grazing, seems like your pulling your hooks out on your third hook set i believe your king fish jas a much stoughter mouth, you might wanna try not setting the hook more then once, then try only setting the hook twice if once setting doesnt land the fish, i fish a lot of salmon halibut and shark here in alaska. And ill find my self doing the same thing your doing, oversetting the hook on a smaller fish, like you going from a king to a gt. I also found if i put it into my mind to take a breath between the first and second seting of my hook it gives the fish a chance to get into the right position to receive a good hook set.
