    This model is truly fantastic, The video too, I can understand about the U/C possible problem, You have a lot to think about when so much money has been spent to please the public, Yes I had to crouch to get underneath the Comet 4c at RAF Lyneham .. Really Really great could watch it all day.. Thank you so much ......

    Yes, you are very right, RC-Jets are always way to fast, but even watching at normal speed this one was better than most others. There was a sense of flying that not only resulted from exacerbated power and speed, although still to fast nonetheless.

    Absolutely fabubous! The take-off and landing look so realistic! With real working flaps. Other large airline rc models seem to be overpowered, causing them to take off like a fighter jet on the contrairy with this one! Wish you many save flights and happy landings!

    Very nice! The assembly is spot on. I had to build a 40 model hull of a 1797 Brig of war, built it in 4 sections. Love the on board camaras. I wish more pilots would do that. Would like to see a view from the cockpit occasionally. Thank you for a very nice ride, good job.

    Back in '61/'62, Ron Moulton, the editor of a British aeromodelling magazine, was awaiting the issue of the British aircraft-registration letters that matched his initials, so he could build a flying scale-model of the plane that carried that registration. He was left wondering where to go next when his initials appeared on one of a fleet of new "Comet 4B's" (G-ARGM) for the airline B.E.A. (now part of British Airways). Back in the early '60s radio-control was primitive and the available propulsion at that time for a model jet-airliner would be either ducted-fans or pulse-jets. It's not difficult to guess what happened to his plan for a flying-model.

    Some shots of the model's assembly suggest that the wing employs an airfoil-section of the sort you'd find on a full-size plane. In my day, flying scale-models were mostly small-scale (a 48" span would have been 'large') and something like a Clark "Y" profile would have replaced whatever had been used on the full-sized aircraft. Let's hope that this smart scale "Comet" ( the real plane would have started flying in '58/'59) has an accident-free career.

    +NaYawkr The Brits came so close to getting this right. If it weren't for the fuselage fatigue problem I'm sure there would have been follow on platforms that could have competed with Boeing and Douglas. As it was, by the time they figured it out, the 707 and DC 8 were on the horizon. A fantastic plane for the period when it was built.

  • @77Neville

    @77Neville

    7 жыл бұрын

    The 4 (and 4B/4C) were the final fixed versions of the 1 which had all the fatigue issues. The 2 and 3 versions resolved the fatigue issues too, but never went into commercial service, the 2s going to the RAF & RCAF and the 3 being a development aircraft. The 4 was too late, too small and lacked the range by then to really have any major commercial impact. It was however, not only the first commercial jet transport to enter service but also the first, by a margin, to run a transatlantic service. Boeing and Douglas learnt from the UK investigation and public enquiry into metal fatigue so the Comet 's legacy, to paraphrase the old quote, was it truly was the giant, whose shoulders the safe development of civil aircraft sits on.

    tbobborap1 Thanks, I was just wondering because there seemed to be a small 'over gain' type oscillation at times. I've noticed on a few bigger models and could only conclude one of two things. An over gain on stabilization or an aerodynamic induced oscillation do to scaling. I've kind of ruled out twitchy sticks at this level of the hobby. Maybe it's in the camera system?
