On the Spot White Pine Friction Fire

I had about an hour & a half to play so I decided to do a fresh gathered materials bow drill friction fire. I brought my stone pecked bearing block & a bow with paracord to save me some time.
It took me a few spins to dry out the hearth board. I also probably applied a little too much pressure with my second attempt so I eased off a little bit during the final, successful spin.
The ground underneath the pine needles was pretty damp however, there were still plenty of old, dead & dry pine needles on top to use for the tinder bundle.
Note: In between spin attempts, I removed the char from the tip of the drill & also some from inside the hearth divot. Also, I placed my divot towards the tree side of the hearth board, which has more resin. If you use the end that is further away, it should have less moisture & be more dry. I believe the resin played a roll in making it more difficult not to burn up the dust pile too quickly. I just wanted to see if I could still make it work. Experimenting is fun & you learn from it.

I have already done that. I have a few videos doing friction fire without a knife in my “on the fly friction fire” playlist.
