He is a precious gift from God above. That's the reason he took him back home. The Hag is a rare gem. I could sit all day and listen to him talk and tell his stories that are true. That we all can learn from still today. He is a unique Godly man. We all have flaws. Sadly & sorely missed. Will always be loved. He is serious but yet a comical man. The world can learn something from him still today. My hero. ❤❤❤

My cousin, Glenn McDaniel was Merles promoter. I wish I had learned to know him better. Merle and my brother had a simular life. Hearts of gold. My dad didn't die at an early age, he left us so many times and for months at a time. Children need their parents.

He will always be my favorite country singer. Such a writer and singer. We saw him many times while he was touring and he always entertained us. Wish he were still here so we could hear him sing more. ❤️❤️ not sure if there is anyone who can replaced his song. His sons are trying but people don’t seem to appreciate them trying to keep his music alive. If they ever come to our area we will be happy to see them, hear them keeping his music alive.

Merle Haggard wasn't just one of the greatest country singers that ever lived, and still is, he was the biggest and most loyal Los Angeles Dodgers fan in country music. Merle Haggard watched Don Drysdale pitch a complete game shutout victory at Dodger Stadium when he got out of prison. Loretta Lynn was also a true blue Dodger fan. RIP Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn. You're both up there with the Big Dodger in the sky.

Merle, I wish you knew what you meant to me. Your probably the only artist I could listen to every single day. And I HAVE to listen to your music EVERY single day. My day wouldn’t be complete if I hadn’t. I wish he were still alive. He’s my favorite singer ever. I’m 26 years old and believe it or not, I grew up outside of NYC and the movie “The strangers” (‘09) had a scene where they played Mama tried and I remember being in love with the song right then and there. I was 12. It would take a little while for me to learn who the singer was, but one day after school I was singing that song in my head and found it on youtube and found other songs by the artist and that’s how I discovered Merle Haggard’s music. I know all of his songs. I know his life story. We have so much in common. I was a truant as well in HS. I hated school. Didn’t want to be there, I would skip class for 3-4,5 periods. The school would call my house. Had a horrible HS experience. Like Merle Haggard once said, “I knew that the education I needed wasn’t in that school” well, that’s how I felt. I feel like every song this man sang resonated with me. It could be one lyric in each song and I would find meaning in it and it spoke to my heart. Merle was and is the greatest singer there will ever be. He was a musical genius. He was an incredible songwriter, amazing singer and an awesome picker. may he RIP

Thank you for posting this and sharing it. Merle was one of my favorite singers. I have watched hours of videos, purchased his books, and followed him for many years. His life story is really special. I had never heard him tell the story of the lady giving him a lift the day he left prison. That was special and hopefully that lady won some award for helping those that needed help at a very critical time in their lives.

When I was young, my friends and I would jump on the motorcycles and go to other states to see the HAG perform if necessary. One time we left Utah for the Anihiem Stadium, I believe it was in California. That was the biggest stadium we had ever seen, yet there wasn't an empty seat to be had... The HAG was a bid part of our lives back then. I still miss him, and the others that are still alive miss him. I'll never forget singing one of his songs in the truck on the way up Settlement Canyon in Tooele, Utah. with my future wife of 16 years. She turned the radio down. I asked her if my singing was all that bad, kidding around with her. She surprised me for sure. She said if ever we marry, we are going to get what ever it is we need to get, and we are going to make a little money Hosting Public Karaoke Shows. To make a long story short, we spent about six years doing just that. I will miss the HAG til my last day. I am looking forward to seeing him again up above in the future. I want to thank him for all of the beautiful songs, and for all of the fun we had chasing him all over this country !!!

"Always Wanting You" was definitely the first song I ever heard from him, it was featured in GTA San Andreas and I always knew it was the best song in the game but didn't even know it's Merle Haggard singing at the time. I just knew it was good because we all appreciate him for his great voice and talent and charisma. When he sings a song it's like another Universe opening in front of you. Such a complete artist, I love his music and I am hungry to discover more. Nice interview as well, although some of the stories are hard to believe.

They had been on the road for days and he looked at her at the airport and told her you know today I started loving you again and that's how the song came to be. Now in this one he told a different reason. Lol Love the Hag
