As a malaysian watching this, felt so proud to see so many ingredients i know! Even if not all of the stuff are malaysian, but a lot of south east asian food are influenced by one another and each country have their own version or adaptation of another neighbouring country’s food like rendang and in malay we call it singang instead of sinigang. Also, dooby’s lived experiences as a third culture kid coming back and trying to assilimate herself into her home country and culture while she reminisces her life in her second home is one i can entirely relate to. I think its why i love watching dooby so much bc of how much i relate to her in this aspect as someone who also grew up in a different country and having to move back to my hime country that both feel so familiar and foreign to me. Watching her videos give me solace knowing that someone else is going thru the motions as i too, am trying to navigate my life moving back to malaysia after having lived almost 2 decades in dubai. ALSO i love how varied dooby’s knowledge of food is, since not many people are well versed or know much of south east asian cuisine. Seeing her eat pho, picking up rendang paste and getting excited over morning glory is just so touching. Much love dooby!

On the sinigang mixes - the one with “Gabi” is basically the same thing as the original except it is mixed with Taro, which makes the soup a little thicker.. The brand you got, “Knorr” tastes more traditional and is more widely used here in the Philippines than the Mama Sita brand 😊

That grocery shopping section at 14:23 really hit as a Filipino American. It's really such an American, or maybe immigrant, experience to find yourself looking for your traditional tastes in places off the beaten path, while exploring tons of other cultures' cuisines on the way. And then to visit your "home" country and feel both at home and not at the same time. It's kind of a weird feeling of figuring out your cultural identity, but a relatable feeling to so many Asian Americans. Also, a few years ago, it was a lot harder to find Filipino cooking content online. I was always looking for my Filipino Maangchi. Still haven't found her, but you and our generation of content creators are doing a great job of bringing Filipino food to more people! So congrats on the one year and thanks Doobs! And shout out Mary Anne, I hope ya'll reconnect.

What you said at 23:00 made me emotional 🥺 I'm not Filipino but what you said is the attitude I try to take whenever I approach a dish outside of my culture, and it's heartwarming to see you give Filipino food the respect it doesn't often get in mainstream food media. I hope you know you are an inspiration and such a role model when it comes to food!

Hi Tina! Pecel is a meal originated from Java, Indonesia. The sambal pecel that you bought is the spicy version of peanut sauce to pour atop various veggies (here we use spinach, green beans, cucumber, cabbage, bean sprouts). Sometimes people would put fried things (like tempeh or our local twigims, lol). All veggies are supposed to be boiled and only salt and pepper are used for seasonings! Hope this helps :)

Hey Dooby, happy anniversary!! ❤️ Knorr is often used here in the Philippines so you're good with those ones! Sampalok is basically sour tamarind. You'll get thicker soup with the purple one since it mimics how some people add gabi/taro root to sinigang. The starch in the root crop thickens it!

As an Indonesian, I’m proud to see you like Indomie goreng-one of the best noodle brands in the world and Rendang-one of the best foods in the world (according to CNN) in your list! Your skill as a food scientist will be challenged to make the best version of rendang👍🏻 bcos “Rendang” itself refers to the cooking method to preserve the meat for West Sumatran society just like Kimchi for South Korean. Stay creative and wild, Tina! You’ve come along way to reach this point, don’t let sentimental feeling ruins your spirit..if it’s on fire, let it be on fire🔥 Ps: my experience taught me that finding love is like finding yourself..so please worry less💪🏻

I have a deviated septum and dry skin in general so I used to get nosebleeds with the slightest tap to my nose, try applying a little Vaseline inside the nose before you go to bed! It won't completely stop the nosebleeds but it does stop it from being really dry!

Happy Anniversarry Tina!! May you continue to be inspiring! Hello from Indonesia! If you like to taste the authentic beef rendang, add 4 shallots, 1-2 fresh red chilli mixed into one. You can use any tough cut for stew and soak the beef on the young coconut water overnight (optional). On the day of cooking, saute minced shallots and fresh chilli and the spice pack w bit of oil until fragrant, then add the beef almost caramelised and add half coconut cream and water. Once the water boil you can place them on rice cooker and stew them overnight, or stew them in the pot till the whole house smells rendang, then adjust the thicknes of the gravy as you like ( you can have em curry like, or more like coated). Happy Cooking! 👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳

I'm a counsellor in Canada. 2nd gen Korean-Canadian. I've learned how culture plays a role into mental health and narratives we tell ourselves. We also consistently have internal push and pull forces inside, trying to decide if we want to be more independent or part of the collective. anyways aside from that, i've been really enjoying watching your videos. I'm inspired and have been playing with the thought of living in Korea or a month or two at a time and slowly emerges myself more into Korean culture, as I've spent my whole life in Canadian culture. I think it'd be super scary and exciting at first but then I'd grow for more appreciation for my cultural roots!

21:25 i've been taught to add the sinigang mix after the meat has been tenderized (i actually do it close to when everything is cooked, and i'll only simmer it for a few mins then), but i never really looked into it if there's an advantage (or disadvantage) to that.
