The benefits of conservation are shared by all. The burdens (wetlands preservation, for example) can fall on a few. See "The Glancing Goose Test" in The Wall Street Journal of January 16, 2001.

I was 38 years old when i saw my first bald eagle. They are all over my area now. They thrill me. It would be really cool for my kids to see a bunch of these little frogs!

We must fight to keep these species alive

Right now my science teacher is making us debate on whether or not the ESA was worth it. She put me on the against side. I love animals and everything I’m reading for research is just pissing me off. Literally ALL of the cons are about human greed. As if our lives and comfort are more important then the existence of other animals. Like destroying animal homes so businesses can’t expand! I literally want to scream. If its not greed its ‘oh but it only saves a forth of its animals’. SO? At least it’s doing SOMETHING. Ill do my damn research for the grade but I refuse to verbally debate this.

It's not the cost of savings the species; it's really about cutting the potential profits for corporations!!

Being in a crisis of climate change and biodiversity loss and being that the Pentagon is one of the biggest polluters, what we need to do is drastically cut our bloated military budget and re-allocate the funds to the recovery of threatened and endangered species, subspecies, and distinct population segments.

I'm NOT saying that conservation is not important, but sometimes environmentalists have damaged their own credibility with their claims. Hasn't the biologist E.O. Wilson, for example, at various times given widely-varying estimates on how many species go extinct each year? Someone once replied to "Yahoo Answers" that this raises the question of: How many NEW species are created every year?
