On Test: Aimpoint Acro + roebuck stalking

Спорт

You have a buck in your scope at 200 yards, and you call it in to 50 metres. It's time for the Aimpoint Acro to swing into action. The new sight from Aimpoint sits on the side of your scope, ready for you to take a snap, action shot. Roy Lupton tries it out on roebucks during the roe rut in July.

C'mon you are pushing a needless equipment! Red dot sights on top of a perfectly good scope is a complete waste of money!

Red dot optics are incredibly useful on top of scopes. They give the close in accuracy of the iron sights that are obscured by or removed for the scope. They also have a much better field of view for close shots. Pretty important when you need to know what’s around before you shoot...

@@christopherbender9794 Hi, yes you are correct. They do offer better field of view etc The design is extremely useful in a military CQB environment which is what it was originally designed for. I find it very difficult to see this programme promoting a secondary optic that is largely redundant in a stalking capacity (within the UK in particular). I understand presenters are paid to promote these items but viewers with enough experience will know this will be a short lived fad (hopefully) and see it as a pretty desperate move tbh.

Al Mac I don’t think a close in optic is redundant in a stalking capacity at all. The whole point is to be able to make an accurate and ethical shot at whatever distance the target presents. I find this setup to be incredibly useful, and would bet that real world hunters in the UK and elsewhere will see it as such, especially as most scoped rifles are zeroed for longer distances. A setup like this adds very little to the cost of a good rifle/scope combination and gives incredible value and versatility.. anything that makes hunting safer, more ethical, and successful will find an audience regardless of price point.

@@christopherbender9794 agreed, being able to make a safe and humane shot is an integral part of managing deer species. You and I both know the vast majority of proffesional and experienced stalkers and managers will not be using a red dot device on top of a perfectly functional optic- ever. The reality is - it will be beginners that are likely to be fooled in to buying this equipment for that purpose. These individuals are likely to still be grasping the fundamental marksmanship principles required in field. This is not a personal dig, I simply think that if a review is going to take place on a additional red dot sight, then stalking deer is not a suitable framework for it. Regards Al
