Four billion years ago, a cosmic object landed in Earth's seas, predating life on the planet. In modern-day Bhutan, a massive artifact emerges, causing global blackouts via a powerful electromagnetic pulse. The American NSA, prompted by Bhutan's government, leads a mission led by Dr. K.C. Czaban and terminally ill engineer Mason Rand. They find the artifact called the Torus, revered by locals for its healing abilities. As the team investigates, a Chinese air strike prompts the Torus to react aggressively, leading to escalating tensions between nations. Inside, they uncover the artifact's ancient origins, potentially linked to life's inception and past extinctions. NSA manipulation fuels conflict, resulting in a planetary threat. Following failed attempts to halt destruction, the US detonates a nuclear bomb within the Torus. Surprisingly, the artifact absorbs the blast and departs Earth, seemingly satisfied by the scientists' sacrifice. Months later, Rand, now cured, learns Czaban is pregnant after their encounter with the alien artifact.
