It wasn't "ironic", it was deliberately done as one of their many desperate attempts to pretend George Lazenby was remotely like Sean Connery. They should have left out all those references to the Connery movies, they don't somehow make Lazenby seem more like Connery's Bond, they just keep reminding you how much better Connery was. I love OHMSS generally as a Bond movie, but Lazenby was a piece of cringey cardboard struggling to pull off being James Bond. He was very lucky to have gotten (still to this day) one of the finest Bond movie scripts and productions that all did everything possible to make him look decent in the part. It wouldn't have happened this way, but had Connery been given this exact same script and production, the film would have been 5 times as good just from that. Sadly, they just kept wanting to camp up Connery's movies and make them all about space rockets and silliness. Connery would have jumped at the opportunity to work on this same level of production and screenplay too.

Definitely one of my favourite Bond films, quite possibly even my favourite of the older ones. It's got the best action scenes in the series so far with those glorious ski chase sequences, as well as some brilliantly tense sequences like the safe-cracking scene. John Barry's score is absolutely phenomenal, the definitive best soundtrack in the entire series, with a theme song so iconic Michael Giacchino would later use it as a reference for the theme to The Incredibles. This version of Blofeld is by far the best one, Telly Savalas being suave and cool, while also incredibly menacing. And above all, the romance between Bond and Tracy - one of the best Bond girls, played to perfection by Diana Rigg - makes this a really special entry, a beautiful heartfelt love story that really gets you to buy the idea that these two are truly in love, only to then rip it away in one brutal devastating moment. OHMSS was definitely a contentious film when it first came out, but it's one that definitely gets better over time, and the fact that directors like Christopher Nolan have labelled it their favourite Bond film tells you just how special this one is

8:01 Yes, very good, you’re starting to notice differences in directorial style! This film did have a different director than the previous films (which didn’t all have the same director: Terence Young had directed DR. NO, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, and THUNDERBALL; Guy Hamilton directed GOLDFINGER; Lewis Gilbert directed YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE), in fact it was a first time director, Peter Hunt, who had been the editor of all the previous Bond films and also second unit director for GOLDFINGER, THUNDERBALL, and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. It’s not terribly uncommon for film editors to shift to directing, or for some directors to also edit their own films, in collaboration or on their own. Cinematographers and actors also are known to do this, as well as move into producing.

So, they made a documentary about it a handful of years ago called "Becoming Bond", that's fun, but the short version is that George Lazenby was an Australian male model who didn't have any acting experience, and basically conned his way into getting the part, but once he had the part, he basically wasn't that into it and bailed, and then Sean Connery ended up coming back anyways. I don't think many people really liked his one appearance as Bond, but he seems like he was a pretty cool dude in real life. Oh, and if you think this Bond was forward, wait until you get to Roger Moore. I like Roger as Bond, and in general as an actor, but in those movies, it's almost like damn! He can pull it off because he's Bond, but if he wasn't it would come off as pretty creepy. Sean Connery never had to work that hard for it.

Indeed a sad ending. They actually keep this story line in a couple future Bond Movies. In the Roger Moore movie "For Your Eyes Only" the movie opens with James visiting her grave. And, in the Timothy Dalton Bond movie 'License to Kill" (undoubtedly in the top 3 Bond movies EVER), he's attendings Felix Lighter's wedding and the bride notices that he seems sad. Felix mentions to her that James was married once.

I hope you didn't skip the Louis Armstrong song at the end which just delivers the additional emotional gutpunch.

One of my favourite Bond Films! _Although one of the most contentious Bond Films until recent years. So happy it's getting the recognition it deserves cause I've always thought it was a sleeper Bond Film._ *Always cry at that ending! I've seen it 7 times!* 😢

Every now and then, a future Bond movie will make a reference to Tracy, including (I think) one villain who tries to get under his skin by mentioning her. I also seem to remember a shot of her gravestone in one of them. So there is a certain amount of continuity, although it’s tangled, at best.

This movie was generally not well received at the time and had been typically at the bottom of most fans list, but in the past ten years, it has become the one that had the best script and the most character development, and is now highly regarded.

34:05 Snowboarding hadn’t been invented at the time. As soon as it was, it immediately appeared in a Bond movie. You’ll know when you see it.

George Lazenby has to be the best Bond imo. Only for the fact he conned his way into rhis role. Made up so much stuff and just kept rolling with it. Theres an awesome documentary about it i suggest you take a peak at that shows how he did it.

The funniest part of this movie is that Diana Rigg hated George Lazenby. Apparently he was a bit of a method actor and was raising skirts with everyone. Perhaps she had a crush on him at first and then got jealous, but regardless. In one of the kissing scenes they had together, she actually ate a raw onion, just to piss him off. ;) George has stated that he was a real jerk back then and really full of himself. He's pretty humble about it now though.

Diana Riggs (the woman from the beach) also co-starred in a popular T.V. series from the time called The Avengers where she and her partner (Patrick Macnee) played Bond type characters.

If you want to have fun, watch the tv series "The Advengers" with Diana Riggs(Mrs. Peel) & Patrick McGee(Mr. Steed). I loved this show. Just remember it's not meant to taken serious. Just a fun, adventurous show with crazy situations. Diana Riggs was great in this show. "Mrs. Peel, we're needed!"

Piz Gloria is actually the peak of the Schilthorn in Switzerland. The easiest way to get there is going to the end of the Lauterbrunnen valley, already one of the most beautiful places in the world and Tolkien's inspiration for Rivendale (he hiked the valley and region when he was 19 and if you look at his watercolors of Rivendale next to a picture of Lauterbrunnen you will see it instantly). You take a series of four cable cars to the top although they are building a quicker route that bypasses one of the stops. At the top the structure from the movie still stands as a visitor center, restaurant, and permanent James Bond museum. The views are absolutely spectacular. I have been there a couple times and find I prefer it to the nearby Jungfrau which costs 2X as much. If you find yourself in Switzerland and are a Bond or LOTR fan, or simply love the beatuy of the mountains then you MUST go there.
