One thing that does suck on all 4-cylinder Camrys, including Hybrids, is the lack of a factory navigation system. Scout GPS App is a lot worse, and you have to make monthly payment to use that app after 3 years of free trial ends? That's stupid. Why not put Android Auto/Apple Car Play in every trim level? On a recent trip from Sault Ste. Marie in Northern Ontario to my garage at home in Iron Bridge, the computer said that the trip was 1 hour and 32 minutes long and my average speed was 69 KPH. However, the computer said that the trip got 4.2 liters per hundred kilometers. That works out to 56.00 MPG American and to be really impressed, 67.25 MPG Canadian!!! The problem I'd like addressed is that for one fill-up out of every five, I can only put in about 2 litres of fuel and then it acts like it's full. It doesn't matter if I'm full or empty nor does it matter what station I'm at. Matter of fact, I don't think it's ever done this at the same station twice. I've read the loose page in the owners manual and I've also read the inside notice on the filled lid lock and this isn't the problem. Sure like to know how to fix it!!

They are direct competitors. Between styling, handling, power and comfort, which would you think is the all-around better car?
@roguedogx
6 жыл бұрын
The accord. I had a more through breakdown, but It was just had too much fluff. So here's the condensed version. Styling - no winner, neither is bad but neither great either. Power - the Camry, but it doesn't make a difference in acceleration till past the quartmile and 100MPH so it's victory is a bit hollow. Handling- Accord, Camry has improved, but the Honda is still miles ahead of it in the feel department. Even if that skid pad numbers suggest it's victory is slight Comfort- Camry, for long highway stretches it's much more comfortable. Now that would give a slight edge to the Camry until you look at the philosophy behind the cars and how it effects the intangibles. The Camry is very clearly just trying to stay on top of the sales chart in a segment if helped to create, the Honda is trying to move the segment forward, trying to make the best family sedan possible. I can't really point to one aspect that truly displays this difference. Things like the Honda having a 10 speed automatic, embracing apple car play, and some styling that looks like nothing else, are all effects of this philosophy. But, these aspects don't really show off the satisfaction difference that would come with day to day ownership. All the little design details that turn a product that works into a truly great product. But, put simply, in a case where these to cars a objectively tied in every single aspect, the Accord get's the nod. Because it's design philosophy, to be the best accord possible, shows up in the subjective aspects of the car. Even if it can't be quantified with a number.

I don't completely agree with the modes (EV,SPORTS,ECO) you think shouldn't be there in a Camry. The thing is only a few countries like US actually have a Camry for a cheap price and most people opt for performance oriented car if they are looking for driver engagement. However for rest of the wordl getting a Camry is a huge deal and for the price that most of the world has to pay for buying a camry means getting some few extras to make them feel joyed with their car. So sports mode might not turn a Camry into a rocket but still the added fun will be useful for those who might not even see a performance car let alone buying one.

My best guess, it's the money maker. If I'm a taxi or Uber I'm going for the lowest trim/price. Then once the cost drops then the higher trims will get it without breaking the price point.

Lets correct the record. "Zero to 60 around 6-seconds". Not even CLOSE. Car and Driver road tests 2018 Camry Hybrid. Results: Zero to 60 mph: 7.9 sec. In another C/D Side-by-side comparison 2018 Camry VS 2018 Accord, "Accord wins hands down". In all fairness Motor Trend summed it up the best when they too compared these two great cars when they said "Toyota built a better Camry, Honda built a better car. And ALL other car magazines came to the same conclusions.

I usually have 50-54mpg average but one time I was able to get it to 59mpg.. but Im not sure how. Any suggestions are appreciated. Great video btw. Watched your reviews from the days of when you first came to Cnet.
Did i hear 6s 0 to 60 !!!
Can you drive longer in EV mode? And what speed will the engine come on after taking off?

It can go up to 25 mph if you have enough juice in the bank.
Prius owners now have an option to avoid the hatred towards them.
It's good, I certainly wouldn't hate driving one, but I know the accord is a better car. Throw in the fact that it will drive better and have better MPG and I know I'd rather have that.

They are direct competitors. Between styling, handling, power and comfort, which would you think is the all-around better car?

Damnnn
I don't completely agree with the modes (EV,SPORTS,ECO) you think shouldn't be there in a Camry. The thing is only a few countries like US actually have a Camry for a cheap price and most people opt for performance oriented car if they are looking for driver engagement. However for rest of the wordl getting a Camry is a huge deal and for the price that most of the world has to pay for buying a camry means getting some few extras to make them feel joyed with their car. So sports mode might not turn a Camry into a rocket but still the added fun will be useful for those who might not even see a performance car let alone buying one.
I'm wondering why Toyota would use an inferior battery material on the higher trim Toyotas. Is there something I'm missing? Wouldn't you want equally high mpg ratings for your most expensive and luxurious models too?

Dennis Xu ya. Confusing and doesn't make sense why they would offer old tech and lower performance. Those cars will have lower resale.

That's as a**backwards as how the best stereo (JBL w Entune) used to only be available in the top Limited model and not the SE model. The older people who'd get the Limited, mostly listen to NPR and the SE for the younger people (who'd listen to music and want to crank it up) get the ok stereo. Doesn't make sense to me.

My best guess, it's the money maker. If I'm a taxi or Uber I'm going for the lowest trim/price. Then once the cost drops then the higher trims will get it without breaking the price point.
Quick question though so how much power and torque does this car have in total?

Bryan Miranda Enough to get this Camry to 60 in 6 seconds!! When did anyone think that was gonna happen on a hybrid. Wow!

Dennis Xu right?! I was considering getting the regular but once I saw the hybrid I’m like I might as well consider getting the hybrid since it’s faster and it has better gas mileage
The audio package also has a wireless charger.......
The Lexus LC does not use TNGA, which is only FWD. The TNGA Camry shares nothing with an LC500.

I don't need a hybrid. I'm easily getting an average of 42 MPG on the highway on my 2018 Camry SE.
Hold on I gotta wipe off my keyboard ⌨️

Does this camry need 87 or 91 on fuel ???

87!! Even Lexus ES Hybrid and CT use 87.
there is no way this car can do 0-60 in 6 seconds....203 hp 3500 lbs....gotta be kidding
Useful info, how odd.
I don't know why every car isn't a hybrid these days. It's weird that we're still making full petrol engines - what's the point?
all i learned from this was an older man complaining about things that don't matter.
0 to 60 in 6 seconds. More like under 4 seconds bro.
Se does not touch 45mpg at all. It goes barely 40 if u drive like regular gas engine car. For 45 mpg you have to try to get it like doing alot coasting...
I completely understand that you don't like all those choices you have to make with the 5 mighty difficult to use buttons and the screens give you next to nothing as information - however, this Camry is not meant to be driven by guys like you. You're just not their target group. You will not see those things "cleaned up", so you might as well not whine about it.
More like 7 to 8 sec 0 to 60. Not 6 sec.

J Kav I think they mixed the V6 numbers. The last hybrid was around 7.5s, this one should be slightly faster.
Toyota better start making their cars look lile European cars again, or else Hyundai and Kia will gobble their sales.
The instrument panel is horridenous! Even Ford gives their barbones Fusion Hybrid S a dual lcd instrument panel. This old style gauge doesn't appear to tell you how much EV threshold you have.
Buy a used one in 2 years and save a ton on depreciation

not sure i agree with the hybrid model. the depreciation is very low compared to base model (and even base model is way better than something like a ford fusion) and the loss of warranty coverage is just not worth it. used car market is not like how it was before.

My 2015 Prius (used) lost 30% of it's value. So I saved 30% by buying a one year old Prius hybrid. Buying a used car always makes sense.
I like the 2018 Accord better.. Does it have an hybrid model ??

Colin Fox Tesla's are great, but reliability is shit. Enjoy telling your boss that you're going to be late for the 5th time in a month because your Tesla had an unavoidable issue and must be serviced. I love Tesla's but unless I had a ton of money saved up. I wouldn't risk my car breaking down on me.

Colin Fox Because 20 years down the road you might see this Camry still compared to a Tesla 😏
The black plastic elements of this car look really ugly on the road in person. Makes the car look dirty and worn. It's weird.
I'll take the new Accord.
