On Being A Pastor's Wife

The sisters Jamie Love and Kristie Anyabwile are back up on The Front Porch -- choppin' it up and discussing the journey of being a pastor's wife. What does this service look like? In what ways does it stretch and grow a wife? What expectations and assumptions do pastors' wives face?
In many churches, it's easy for the pastor's wife to feel as if she's in a fishbowl for the congregation to see. What's she to do? "Swim and don't eat too much fish food, 'cause you will blow up!" C'mon up on the porch and enjoy the encouragements and warnings these sisters share.

You two are absolutely delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed every word of this conversation: the godly and biblical insight you brought, your humility and your biblical wisdom. I have subscribed and really hope to hear more from you both! Hugs from NC :)

My husband just became a preacher 5 months ago. I'm sure I can speak for all the wives of pastors when I say.... it's definitely a joy, however, some nervous feelings come into play as well. As a preacher's wife you have to stand in your role as his help meet. He'll need you, the church will need you, most importantly God need you to support him to get the Lord word into the world. As for being a " First Lady' please don't call me that, I'm Mrs. Angel Williams.

Please tell me the scripture that says pastor's wife is first lady and to be called so. I read that we are brothers n sisters for God is our father.

Many times there are women in a local church that are always wanting "counceling" from the pastor, but they don't want the pastor's wife involved in it. I was wondering if either one of these ladies has run into something like that before, and if they did, how did they handle it. it seems that there are always pastor groupies out there that would love to become the "spiritual wife" of the pastor.

Beautiful discussion, I don't support no first lady nonsense cause there must be a second wife. The Bible clearly speak about wife and one who knows her how to conduct herself . And most of all to know how to pray and pray her husband up.

I am not going to be a pastors wife! Never entertain the idea. I believe in God! But I don't see myself as a Pastors Wife. I've been saying it, Everybody need me to be associated to their program, or belief system A Husband In Sports A Husband In Medicine A Husband In The Church A Husband In MILITARY On and On!!! It already sounds like you all are trying to hand pick someone for me. Please don't do this to me!!! If I reject a Minister/Pastor's Wife, it can cause a guilty feeling in me challenging my belief in God. So...this is what you all mean by "Not What I Am Normally MY Type" I can tell you right now! I am going to reject this!!! It sounds like a set up! Please let me choose my own mate! They can present themselves! I can date! But you make so absolute, without even telling me who this man is. This is already a sign of "Controlling" IT scares me. I wish you had never said anything, and let it happen naturally. Now there's so much pressure on me to accept or reject. It's not fair!
