On Becoming Alan Dershowitz
Ralston College presents a conversation between Stephen Blackwood and Alan Dershowitz, followed by an audience Q & A. The discussion begins with Professor Dershowitz describing the early influences that awakened his appreciation for civil liberties-particularly free speech-and the origins of his fiercely independent thinking. The subsequent conversation and response to questions touches on the decline of meritocracy, the principles of the Civil Rights Movement, the role of universities and intellectuals in revolution and tyranny, and the ways in which a culture of free inquiry is fundamental to human flourishing.
The event took place online on April 28th, 2021.

Although I'm not a Democrat, I respect this man. He is the perfect example of a REAL Democrat. We need more people like this.
When Mr Derhowitz speaks of how ideologues always think they know the truth, I am reminded of these lines from Yeats, in his poem The Second Coming: Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity.
Love Alan D a man who speak’s truth
I thought Alan's point about the "Truth" was incredibly poignant. Extremely relevant in today's world and we see the effects of this kind of thinking all around us, almost daily. I hadn't heard it expressed in this way before and I'll be sure to use it as a talking point in future.
Say Hoka Hey to Alan Dershowitz and his buddies for me will ya?

Maybe the greatest defender of freedom alive. Very important discussion.

There can be no arguments whatsoever against gay marriage? That sounds fairly fundamentalist.
Professor would please define truth. You don't seem to talk about philosophical truth. Our grand children only have the same values in name. The definitions have changed. Free speech is great if you agree with me. Otherwise you are fired and maybe have your business burned down. Your belief about human nature comes from the Bible. Where do thiers come from?
Mr Dershowitz's confession that he was not a good student at Yeshiva is borne out by his apparent obliviousness to the easily provable fact of the age-old Jewish Rabbinic values , traditions and practices of debate, dissent and discussion. Even a cursory reading of the texts of the Mishna and Gemara would have enlightened Mr Dershowitz on this matter.

You are very misguided. Dershowitz has character. Unlike so many Professors.
