OMT: Counterstrain - Anterior Thoracic (AT1-AT12)

This particular video is intended as a demonstration of the principles of Counterstrain treatment method applied to the thoracic spine, specifically the anterior tender points AT1-AT12.
It is not intended as a complete instructional video and should not be considered a source of complete OMT instruction.
Instead, it should be treated as a supplement to independent learning using primary Osteopathic Manipulation instructional resources. Clinical skills are best learned and developed with support from faculty in the context of a complete Osteopathic Medical School Curriculum.
Osteopathic Clinical Skills is a channel dedicated to discussing and exploring Osteopathic Clinical Skills concepts for medical students, residents, and clinicians and presenting them in an easy to understand manner.

Hi, there are a number of DOs in TX who specialize in OMT. I’m Dr. Chris Medina, DO, (the doctor teaching in the video) based in Ft Worth, TX. What part of Texas are you looking for a physician?

I have thoracic kyphosis of 90 degrees, with definite respiratory dysfunction, however my sternum and ribs, when adapted are misaligned and the xiphoid is protruding forward and on an angle. I tell Specialists this but not one has ever done a physical examination of my thoracic area. No one is interested in the fact that my O2 saturations run at about 94 % and that it is painful to inhale and that I feel short of breath all the time, dizzy and nauseated. I tend to shallow breath all the time. It would be good if all health professions did a thorougher examination and listen to their patients. It’s so frustrating.

I’m sorry to hear all you are going through. If you are interested in getting a more hands-on evaluation by a DO who specializes in using Osteopathic Manipulation, you can go to the website for the American Academy of Osteopathy www.academyofosteopathy.org/find-omm#/ and search for a physician in your city/state who specializes in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine or Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. I hope you find the help you are looking for!
