This song was meant to be funny and hilarious. Back in the day we did not take things so seriously as they do today. People are easily offended today and that is a shame. They took the fun out of life and made everyone afraid to speak one's mind. It is a shame our world has come to this. Thank goodness I was young then and had lots of fun back then without all the politically correct mess that has hijacked our world today.

Everything is offensive.. milinials are whimps!! Big baby hueys.. '70s,'80s,'90s we had fun.. even told racists jokes and no-1 was offended. SoCal is or a melting pot. Naybors of Allll ethnicity.. and we all had jokes on one another.. high school was the same.. with Latinos, Asians, Blacks, Whites and we all got along.. well, we tried too. Correct !! .it was one of those dances that even if you couldn't dance and had two left feet, you could still get on the dance flood and feel comfortable because it was so easy to do.. like the dance "the twist" in 1960's

Loved Joe Tex, I’m 71 so I was dancing to that jam and I was the girl with the skinny legs.

This song was such a hit and we laughed so much at this song, It was funny and we all laughed, we got the humor and no one was offended , people laughed at this and everyone laughed the bump was a popular dance and yes someone could knock you down, I was a kid so never really done it , you see how cute it was , she came on and they had fun , no one was offended then , everyone knew to laugh at this kind of stuff as you can see that woman knows how to dance , and they had fun with it no one was politically correct , we laughed at nonsense

Joe Tex was a bug influence on James Brown in the 1950's. He also wrote the oft covered, "Fever", which he sold for quick cash without copywriting it, so he didn't get writing credit for it.

I promise you, honestly, hand on heart, no-one was offended by this back in the day. AND - it filled the floor! Every time!!! My husband and I used to muck about to this one, 'bumping' each other's hips and pretending to almost fall down. It was purely for fun. And there was a LOT of that at discos, etc. back then. We had brilliant nights out. By the by - I'm glad you noticed how great the beat etc. is on this. Have to say, I had the best fun I've had in ages just watching the expressions on your faces! I am SO noticing my age! Brilliant reminder of the non politically-correct era. Once again, I swear to you, this disc was never intended in offence to anyone. For real. That's just how it was back then.

We loved Joe Tex ya'll and I am one of those big, fat beautiful women. And I used to love to do the Bump. And I ain't broke nobody's hip yet🤩. But Joe's songs were real. Great memories. I’m 68. Yes, a great time to be alive. Things were different then. Fun, relaxed, groovin together, doing the ‘Bump’ and everybody getting along. Just yesterday I told my sister that I’m now that ‘ Woman with the skinny legs’ another fun song.😎🎶

The woman who danced with him at the end of the song is named Jennifer Echols. She was an actress who graduated from the School of Theater at USC. She was okay with her size and was a wonderful, intelligent woman. Unfortunately, she passed away a few years ago.

Love Joe Tex!! Still have his 45 of Skinny Legs and All. He died so young. He was in his 40s and had a massive heart attack. If not for that happening, everybody would know who Joe Tex was.

Yep! Joe Tex lit up the scene back then with his funky songs with fun and unique lyrics. Funny thing is at 68 I am officially that ‘Woman with the skinny legs.’😂

This was a huge disco hit here in the U.K no. 2 in the UK charts, these days it rarely gets airplay because it may offend. I personally don't recall any fuller figured girls back in the day being offended by its content but they happily did the bump too it. Its a shame that its not played as much as it was a great groove, at the time it was regarded as a fun tune

My favorite funny song from the 70's. It's not very PC for modern times but it was quite popular when I was a kid. It cracks me up every time, not because of the woman's size. For me, it's the mental image of this scrawny skinny man getting picked on & knocked around on the dance floor. The 2nd verse about being snatched out of his seat always gets me - LOL! He's being stalked by this lady who has her eyes on him & he aint gettin' away so easily - HAHA! Yeah, we weren't so uber-sensitive back then & knew that it was all in jest.
