Omega Speedmaster Co-Axial Chronograph 9300 & Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 9900 | SwissWatchExpo

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This review features Omega Speedmaster and Omega Planet Ocean watches with Calibre 9000 Series movements - Calibre 9300, 9301 and 9900. These Omega chronograph movements were the first to receive the new METAS certification, a stringent testing institute that tests Omega’s watches.
All Omega watches that are tested and pass the tests by METAS (The Federal Institute of Metrology) are awarded the master Chronometer Certification, meaning the watch has been certified twice, and has passed 8 different tests related to the quality, durability, and accuracy.
Check out these watches care of our expert Michael.

Fresh from the Showcase here at SwissWatchExpo, this morning we're talking about the incredible Omega Calibre 9000 series - the 9300, 9301, the 9900. If you are looking for a video helping you decide between all the different Speedmasters available, that's the last video where we talked about Reduced, and we talked about the Moonwatch and the different options that are available from the racing series. That's not this video. If you're looking for that one, find the other video. This one's just about this incredible movement. Omega started out with their 8500 Calibre, which some people argued wasn't really in-house. It was the first coaxial that they used on the Speedmaster and Seamaster watches. The reason they argued that it wasn't really in-house was that, Omega is owned by the Swatch Group and so is the ETA movement company.
Even though Omega developed the movement, and the parts were sourced through Omega's own internal system, some of the assembly was done in the same building with ETA. So there was a thought that ETA made the movement. A lot of real purists on this question of an in-house movement kind of thought less of the 8500 because of that. Omega understood the complaint. They built a separate system right next to the rest of the Swatch Group factories, the ETA movement, but it's the completely, their own space. It's an Omega designated factory. This movement, the 9300 series, 9000 series was completely developed and manufactured completely in-house. It's got a lot of credibility, but not only that, when it came out in 2011, it really kind of killed everything else for me. I'm a big fan of this movement.
For me, it really incorporates everything that watch technology has so far, all in one movement. It is a big movement, by the way, I want to show you a comparison. This is a 40-millimeter Rolex Submariner, which you're probably very familiar with the size of. This, for example, is what you see in a Speedmaster at 44 and a quarter millimeter. It's only four and a quarter millimeters bigger. I mean, it is almost half a centimeter, but you can see it's a substantially bigger watch than the Submariner. Then , if you get into the watches that they made for the Seamaster that use the same movement, you can see they're really quite a bit bigger than a Submariner. They're really the same dimension as a Seadweller, both in diameter and in thickness. It's a big watch, I don't have very big wrists, but you can see I'm wearing it here today.
This is the Speedmaster in steel and rose gold. Even though I have smaller than average wrists, I think the size looks great. The 44 and a quarter millimeter really, it's a great size. Don't be swayed from that. Back to the movement, when they launched it in 2011, it initially launched only on Seamaster Planet Ocean and Speedmaster models. The things that just made it phenomenal, that for me, like I said, it packs everything into one movement that watch technology has - it's a coaxial escapement, which essentially removes the friction from the timekeeping portion of the watch. It extends the service intervals to about double. I know you've always heard you should service your watches about every four or five years. These are really like eight to ten years, because that friction is just not there.
The second thing is that they're really resistant to the problems that people sometimes have with mechanical watches. The most frequent problems that you see with a mechanical watch is either it becomes magnetized or it's dropped, and there's some impact damage.

Nice review and presentation. I have the Speedmaster 9300 on bracelet and absolutely love it. I got this version for the reasons that it most closely resembles the original Moon Watch (hands, indices, color scheme) as well as has a date and I like that I can let the second hand go without undue wear on the mechanics and I have used the sub-dial as my home time zone when traveling - very handy. A couple of comments: 1. Just an FYI for folks: The 9300 version you are showing also has a water resistance to 100 meters (most other variants including the Dark Side and Grey Side are 50 meters). 2. The 9300 tachymeter scale is aluminum. It's the 9800 movement that is ceramic.

I currently own the original Speedmaster Co-Axial 9300 review here and love it, but i recently found out Omega stopped producing it. Any idea as to why? Also, do you think the 9300 would get METAS certification were it to go through the tests today?

I've just purchased a brand new and unused 9300 Planet Ocean Chronograph, which I'm waiting to be delivered. I would have loved to get the 9900 for the added accuracy and tolerances, but the gloss bezel and gloss dial were a complete no no due to the glare they create in high light situations. The 9300 with the matte bezel and dial is a stunning watch with all the features of the 9900, just a less accurate movement.

The 9300 caliber is not less accurate than the 9900 or built with better tolerances. The only difference is the material used for some of the 9900 parts vs. 9300 parts to make it more anti-magnetic and Metas certified. The movement itself looks and acts exactly the same. I agree with you on the matte bezel. Ceramic is and the orange rubber is just too glossy and busy.

Re 9300 vs 9900 - The 9900 has undergone more tests, but is the movement itself any different from the 9300?
