    This post I know is old but hey ho. I have owned and loved this watch for a decade. Has been everywhere from snowboarding off piste from the top of The Grande Motte in France to scuba diving in Bali and it has never let me down. The look of the watch works in both formal and stripped to your trunks situations. I have nearly an 8” wrist so the 17mm girth gives it presence on an average 41.5mm watch diameter. I still love this watch, yes it’s heavy, but you get used to it, and you feel the value, literally! 😎

    I have had this watch for 3 years and love it as much now as when I got it. I would say it's a great entry level to luxury watches and you can pick them up for a reasonable price nowadays. Great review

    Turn the crown (the round knob at 3 o'clock) anticlockwise to unscrew it. Then pull it out all the way - this will stop the seconds counting and allow you to set the time.

    Thanks for the comment - the Seamaster 2220.80 is a fantastic watch (considered "perfect" by some!) and I have tried to source one but many on the second hand market have considerable bezel or case damage. Got a ceramic co-axial model in the end but my mind still wanders to the original Bond SMP now and then! :)

    Ivan, with you being the Omega expert and whatnot, what do you think of the 70's Omega Seamasters (Cal 10xx) that you often find on ebay auctions ? I'm looking at those that montre48 have on auction. They normally go for between $600 - $800 and seem to be in good condition. Good idea ? I know you're a busy man, so when you've got time. Cheers.

    Hmm, very interesting question... but I have to be honest and state that my knowledge of vintage pieces is extremely limited. There seems to be some interest in those Seamaster models however I would rely on good forums to see what people who know say... would recommend checking WatchUSeek if you haven't already. Apologies for the lack of an answer here!

    Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I had already checked out WUS, but there is surprisingly little about the 1020 / 1022. I did check the Omega site, and what I found made me decide to give these watches a miss. (Serial no's and movements not matching up, ss bracelet instead of leather, etc). Anyway, I am thinking more and more about the Oris Aquis Date. Cheers.

  • @PerthWAtch

    A quick search would show that there is no such model as 212.30. You might be confused with a current model - this one is an older one that is no longer in catalog. Paste the full correct model numbers here and I will try to answer your question.

    Great review, I’m just in the process of getting a full service for it. I’ve been quoted £400, is this reasonable? It’s a fantastic looking piece, although I agree with you about the weight but you sort of get used to it.

    Thanks for the comment Tony! I haven't actually bothered to service watches as I think much of it is over done by the manufacturers. That price sounds like an official Omega price - if it's out of warranty you may be able to get it much lower at a good watchmaker.

    I just paid AUD$1100 for servicing this watch. Apparently some component broke inside the movement which ousted a lot of money.

  • @PerthWAtch

    @PerthWAtch

    That'd be classified as a repair, more than just a service. Even via official channels a routine service would be about $500.

    Thanks for the suggestion... I have seen such fully Chinese conceived watches before and the outcome is extremely variable and usually on the disappointing side. Functions describe are often not so (one says it's a Tourbillon which it certainly would NOT be!), and sometimes watches said to be automatic even turn out to be quartz!!

    Hi nameless, Paul Hurst has done some very good, fair reviews on such watches, you should check his channel out.He has a real Seamaster and Planet Ocean that he compares with watches like that, and with homage watches. I don't have any experience of Tevise, but the ones I've seen pictures of seem to be of slightly lower quality than Krohnen and Sohne or Jaragar, which are also cheap chinese watches in the same price range. I have many of those, and I love them, but you have to view them as the watch equivalent of popcorn in order to appreciate them. The key point is that they are virtually free, so you have very little to lose by trying them out.

    Let me help explain since you are at risk of making a fool of yourself: Nobody is saying that the movement in this watch is in-house - it is *not* and I said this at 1:17 (which you would've seen if you watched the video). The false statement you made is this: "Omega is not capable to make their own movement". Omega *do* make in-house movements... you being unaware of this fact does not make it untrue. Cheers mate ;)
