Omega Seamaster 300--One Watch to Rule Them All? An in-depth review of Omega's amazing dive watch!

If you wish to support us in creating fun, informative content, please consider giving at our Patreon site here: www.patreon.com/DrKnowItAllKnows. Thank you!
In this video, we look at the new (2018) Omega Seamaster 300 Professional dive watch, and ask the question, "Is this watch the one watch to rule them all?" In other words, can one use it as their only watch--as a diver, a casual, a complication, and a dress watch? Take a look and see if you agree with our conclusions!
This video was originally released on our sister channel, Whole Nuts and Donuts, which does adventure videos--like climbing the Matterhorn and trekking to Everest Base Camp--and reviews of watches and other consumer items we like. Not often I sit all the way through a 35 minute KZread video, well done man! I've owned a couple dozen Seamaster's in my decade plus in this hobby. It's the watch that got me into watches, and probably the watch that keeps me interested in watches.

Right? I wanted this for so long I'm a bit stuck now: I have no other grail watches on the horizon. The only thing I can think of is to get a GMT someday, but I don't have a particular one in mind. This is a really solid "exit" watch for sure. BTW thanks for noting how you found this channel via this watch review on Whole Nuts and Donuts. You'll note I slightly repackaged it and posted here for those who follow this channel!

Great review! I’m considering the 43.5 mm version of the Seamaster 300m, which (to my preferance) lacks the date complication. I hate correcting non-chemists, but because you go by Dr. know-it-all, ZrO2 is called Zirconium Oxide. Easiest way to remember how to name such a chemical compound is if the first element is a metal, you don’t specify the number of oxygen. SiO2, on the other hand, is named silicon dioxide. The Japanese actually call SiO2, silicon oxide.

I just purchased the newest seamaster. This is my third seamaster. My first was the original Bond watch from early 90s and it was beautiful especially with the patin dial showing its age I also have the early 2000s version with the beautiful electric blue dial and sword hands which is for me better then my newer one except for the movement. Yes, the early 2000s sea master for me was perfect size and much more comfortable. I purchased the Grey dial newer version pre-owned from a jeweler friend very inexpensively but for my taste it is too blingy as a all arounder. I am considering replacing the blue bezel insert with a black bezel to make it more versatile. I don't know what Omega was thinking putting a blue bezel on a Grey dial even if blue is its corporate color. My feeling overall is that Omega is putting out way to many versions of the seamaster and especially the speedy and cheapening it.

It is a stunning watch. I bought one in blue a month or so ago and have zero regrets at all but I was torn between the black and the blue. Either choice would have been a good one. It definitely has some weight to it as you said, but it is not too much at all. It is extremely comfortable to wear. I agree about the position of the helium escape valve, but that being said it doesn’t bother me.

I just bought the blue one. I never wear cuffs as I dress casual at all times. I don't rely any lumed watch for night time as I have a few Luminox watches in my collection. I bought this watch for the overall looks and the movement which both are amazing.

I have my eye on the blue version (Because I'm a huge James Bond / Pierce Brosnan fan). Is there any reason you chose the black version? Good video. If I were going to pick the perfect watch for all scenarios, I'd choose the Rolex Submariner. Unlike your favor of the Omega D3 as the more stylish of the two, I find the beauty in the details of the Submariner to be the stylish choice here, but not by much however. So for dress ocassions the Submariner wins here, but again, not by much. All other categories are subjective. Your review was STYLISH however. 🙂

I like this one a lot: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XPSFKQ7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The red stitching is a nice touch for matching with the red on the diver. Of course if you bought blue or another color, you might want a different choice. I agree the metal is a bit heavy--and scratch prone--for daily wear. I use it for special occasions. (FYI, I'm not an amazon affiliate. That's just where I happened to buy this strap)

You state that the HEV is “useless” on this watch. Why? I’ve heard this claim many times on several other “watch experts” KZread channels. I can’t help but believe that this is just purely a regurgitation from the other more popular KZread stars. Ironically, I have yet to come across a KZreadr who makes this claim and wears his or her watch for what Omega tested / stressed it for. So, my question to you is this. Do you use your Seamaster to dive with? Or is this more of a status symbol for you? Saying that the HEV is “useless” is a really bold claim to make on a $4.5k watch that has been tested to endure extreme measures. BTW, thank you for not calling it a “Reeses Peanut Butter Cup.” I cringe every time I hear a KZreadr say that.
