Omega DC10 Tanker & 2 US Navy F18 Hornets Arrive & Depart at Prestwick Airport | First 2017 Visit

Hi all. During the 5th & 7th June 2017, Prestwick got a very special visitor. 2 US Navy F18s and an Omega DC10 Tanker. They arrived on the 5th and departed on the 7th. This was their first visit of the year, they returned the following week after attending a few Airshows over in Finland. Their routing was Bangor-Prestwick-Helsinki. I will upload their second visit video in the future. I hope you all enjoy.

    Since I flew US Navy, allow me: the first Hornet was from VFA-103, the Jolly Rogers squadron, and the second was from VFA-143, the Pukin Dogs (no, I did not forget a "g"). GREAT and very clear video, thanks for posting it!!!

VFA-103 flies the F/A-18F Super Hornet and is based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia. The squadron's radio callsign is Victory and it is assigned to Carrier Air Wing Seven .Strike Fighter Squadron 143, also known as the "Pukin Dogs," is a United States Navy strike fighter squadron based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia. The Pukin Dogs are an operational fleet squadron and flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet. They are currently attached to Carrier Air Wing Seven and. They are currently at their homeport of NAS Oceana. Their radio callsign is Taproom. Active: 20 July 1950 - present

    Fun fact, Omega just acquired 2 KDC-10's from the Royal Netherlands Air Force after they converted to KC-30 MRTT. They have glass cockpits much like the MD-10 and will have boom and drogue capability

    Canadian Plane Spotter .the first KC10 that ever left the US,i helped unload,still got the hat and pictures.Lovely a/c,did many more after that,in the 80's...Happy days...

    5 star catch mate! I bet there wont be many opportunities to get a closeup like that of the rare dc-10. I was glad to catch a glimpse of it aswell

    BTW, the long, full wheel roll was VERY unusual for FLY NAVY.... they are used to trapping a 3-wire (the ideal/target cable) and full thrust to make sure there is no bolter (missing all four "wires") and thus having enough power fly off and go around for another "call the ball" action.

    Navy crews routinely operate from land bases when not deployed to the carrier. So not unusual at all.

    AIM-9X on the wingtip and AIM-120 AMRAAM under the wing. Inert weapons though, just for training.
