Je ne connaissais pas cette grande dame mais c'est l'algorithme de KZread qui me l'as proposé, parce que je cherchais une musique douce avec laquelle travailler et j'adore❤️❤️❤️. Avec l'âge, on apprécie de plus en plus les musiques calmes même si on ne comprend pas forcément ce qui s'y dit.

I'm just learning a little more about this wonderful woman...She did a lot for music, but she wasn't mentioned enough when she was with "Buena Vista Social Club", but not later, not even today. She is alive and we should thank her while she is still with us. A wonderful lady! Thank you

I'm 26 years old and, during my last birthday, I had the honour to see a live concert of her in my city. Despite being the delicate old lady she is today, once she put the mic in front of her mouth, she became a monster with such a powerful and sweet voice. I was so grateful for having that moment, I'll never forget that show and fulfilling the dream of listening live Buena Vista Social Club. Gracias Omara ❤️

@ Viviana Sanchez. Omara has a long history. I think she’s been singing most of her life. She’s now 92 going on 93. Lots of her music on Google if you wish to look her up.

Omara es extraordinaria. Maneja un amplio timbre voz. Los años, por supuesto, han hecho su trabajo y ya no es igual que años atras. No obstante, sigue siendo un espectaculo inolvidable por su carisma y su amor a los ritmos cubanos.

I was waiting 20 yrs to go to visit Cuba and did last year - before this "ebola" stupidity - and unfortunately is far not what I was expecting. Even people like to say it was a great step, Obama made a huge mistake with allowing Americans' mass tourism to be introduced to this amazing country and as it is usually, the society responded (not everyone of course, but far too high rate of the Cubans) in the worst possible way. And don't go there without Spanish - this was my biggest mistake, I'm sure I'd have a very different experience. Wish you good luck when you respond to your soul's call and visit the country.

Siempre cuando escucho a Omara, me traslada a las melodías cantadas por mi madre, por ella tengo en mi corazón el amor a la música, y hermosas letras. La música es el arte que enseña a viajar y conocer la cultura, el espíritu se alegra al sentir melodías tan suaves. Soy Chilena amo el Son Cubano y el Bolero.

Went to Cuba and saw the Buena Vista Social Club show Amara in a few of the individuals was still in the show and it was amazing as she sat on my lap when she came out into the stage and sang to me during one of her songs I'll forever remember that moment seeing the joy in her eyes while she performed for the audience and how amazing the show was. The citizens of Cuba we're amazing and resilient people and I can't wait till I can go back.

Hola. En 2006, finalizando mis estudoos en Suecia, visité en Uppsala, junto a unos amigos nicaragüenses un bar. Nos atendió una persona de origen árabe. Tenía puesta esta música de fondo. Mi música, mi Cuba, mi segunda patria. Era también la música favorita del amigo árabe. Le traduje, lo que pude. El bar tender casí lloró, amaba esta música.
Al igual que pat.mancilla soy chileno pero ser latam nos da ese amor por las melodias y cantantes .y en especial cuba que la amo por su tortura y su orgullo por sus raíces vivacuba.😮❤

Cuantos recuerdos con este album en Venezuela ; a comienzo de la década de los 2000 Omara y todos los que integraron el Buena Vista Social Club , estremecieron al mundo con su arte y yo trabajaba como encargado de una tienda de CDs En Caracas (unicentro el marquez) Era hermoso hacer sonar a Omara y la gente imnotizada compraba este album con la única ilusión de llegar a sus hogares y escucharlo bajo los efectos de un Wiski o un vinito. Escuchar su musca es como los mantras de los hindúes que te hacen sentirte feliz.
Tengo el sueño de conocerla algún dia, ella junto con compay segundo, pablo milanés, silvio Rodríguez e Ibrahim Ferrer en mi opinión son los mejores músicos de cuba
Celia Caridad Cruz está a Años Luz de Doña Omara Portuondo. Dios mio que calidad y Maestría en la Interpretación tiene está Artista Cubana. Es para quitarse el Sombrero.

Aprecia, o sea escucha con atención a cada una y te darás cuenta que son dos completamente diferentes estilos de interpretación y voces que estas dos grandes artistas nos ofrecen. En mi humilde opinión me parece que Omara tiene esa voz que se presta mejor para esas baladas bien cargadas de amor y sentir de nostalgia en cambio Celia tenía la voz de una guarachera, de la algarabía. Escucha a Celia cantar El Yerberito Moderno. En fin para mi las dos tienen lo propio y dichosos nosotros que podemos disfrutar de ambas. Saludos desde Nicaragua.

This is a new discovery for me, both singer and songs. Such an expressive voice Omara has - this kind of voice can be shaped but not learned, it's there or it isn't. The expressiveness reminds me some of Evora, from a very different island. I grew up hearing Cuban and Latin music, then in the 1960's it disappeared from the main U.S. media. Music is truly the international language of the heart. Thank you for posting music of a different culture here.
