Like you said recently on Jimmy's (?) livestream re the OM-1, these releases represent an undertaking to invest in and develop MFT. This is the most important part in my opinion. Panasonic's new GH6 underlines that MFT is alive and kicking! Thanks Peter

Hi Peter. I've recently bought the OM System 12-40 f2.8 pro II second hand and I am thrilled with the quality. Its been a while since i had a zoom and to my surprise I am struggling to see the difference in IQ between the results from this lens and the Pana Leica primes I have. Loving the convenience also.

Thanks for another great review. The new 40-150 will be a great upgrade for my OM-D 5 mk3 from my $99 special that always surprised me with its quality per price ratio. For me, it's all about the weight, and the F4 lens is exactly what I want.

Hey Peter, thanks for this quick look. I think the 40-150mm f/4 is positioned like a travel lens. I use 12-40 and 40-150 f/2.8 for my professional work all the time, but when I travel I wish I had the 12-100 f/4, it's just so convenient.

I agree, and for enthusiasts like myself who don't want the weight and bulk of the 2.8 versions. If I need speed, I'll go with my mitakon 25mm f0.95, and am considering getting a 17mm prime of some sort. 4 stops more speed makes carrying extra lens well worth it for me. My dilemma now is how to go forward with the f4 system. I have the 8-25, and was set on getting the 12-100 next, but this could open the door to the 12-45 and 40-150. Ultimately I think that the 12-100 will still be my choice since it has IS, is one lens vs two, and the 12-45 has a lot of overlap with the 8-25. Still, it's great to have the choice and I think the f4 lineup really targets the ethos of m43 for the photographers that want excellent quality and small size.

@@torfinnjohnsrud793 depends what you shoot, but 12-100 is an amazing lens for travel and video also, there is no other lens on the market that can beat it in that regard.

@@torfinnjohnsrud793 Have you considered pairing the 8-25 with the Panasonic 35-100 f2.8? That lens is tiny for its focal length and brightness and the IQ is on par with Olympus. It is even lighter than the 8-25. To me the 10mm gap is not significant. But if it is a problem it can be filled with the sigmas 30 f2.8 or 30 f1.4 for another 2 stop advantage if necessary. M43 is spoiled for choice. To me that 3 lens package covers ultra wide to normal daily zoom, a normal bright low light lens, and a 2.8 telephoto zoom. All super portable and light. If you have the 8-25 and the 0.95 mitakon, the 35-100 f2.8 may be a good alternative.

If I didn't own the f2.8 I would probably buy the f4. Of course there is a huge size difference but I still find the f2.8 very satisfying to use and the extra speed and subject isolation is a factor, I think f4 makes more sense on a FF sensor where they fall into the budget category, this new lens is quite expensive

Peter, Where you compare the 40_150 size, the 2,8 has its lens hood attached. It is a substantial, (and quick to use) hood. Beside it, the 4,0 version has no hood attached, an oversight I guess. If one compared them both without hoods, the difference is not huge. If you travel with the 2,8 you can always leave the hood at home. Gee, my 2,8 is coming up to its 6th birthday. I have never for a second, regretted buying it. It's stellar!

There are two reasons, that make me preffer the 40-150 2.8 version (without having tested the f4 pro version): 1. You can use teleconverters, so with the mc20 you get a quite cheap "80-300 5.6", which makes it way more versatile (telemacro, wildlife ...). 2. The price. The new 40-150 f4 pro starts at 900 Euro. At that pricepoint you can get a used 2.8 version in a great condition with guarantee. But: For many people, who only shoot landscape/travel-stuff and want minimum weight with maximum reach, this lens could be a great choice. Maybe as a pair with the 12-40 2.8 for lower light. This would be a coverage from 24-300 equivalent at about 770 g. Another benefit: The two lenses share the same filter size.

although the 40-150 is small and relatively light, it's a bit odd to have 3 lenses in the system with exactly the same range. I would have liked more to see something like a 50-250 f4 (as a match for the 12-45 f4) or a 25-150f4 (as a match for the 8-25 f4). The omission of the focus clutch and fn button is also not a step in the right direction in my opinion. Its good to see new lenses, but the should add ranges to the system that we don't have already covered. Maybe like a 100-250f4 (as a match for a 12-100)?? Or a 6mm f2 ultra wide?

Nice. Some comments/questions... 1. Is it true that the OM-1 *lacks* the high speed mechanical shutter speed of OM-Ds? (15 fps) 2. I assume that the electronic shutter supports a number of continuous shutter speeds, not only 50fps and 120fps? 3. Will the electronic shutter give non-blackout views for all continuous shutter speeds? Both EVF and LCD screen? 4. Apart from aperture, what are the advantages of the 12-40/2.8 II over the 12-45/4? The 12-45 is smaller, lighter, focuses closer. What about weather sealing? Focus speed? Etc? 5. The 40-150/4 looks nice *size wise*. It's a pity it doesn't have in-lens IS; I find that a big plus for the 12-100/4... 6. Is there a list of what maximum frame rate the various mZuiko lenses support wrt continuous AF with tracking for the AI modes?

Hey I do occasionally add a giant ice ball to Glenfiddich single malt or Hibiki blended pours. And I like it neat too.😁
