My blood pressure literally CANNOT take this anymore 😣 The back-and-forth is killing me, and I just need Karasuno to win, ok? Also, that final line from Ukai (and the last one from his voice actor)... 😭

    Ukai's voice actor, Tanaka Kazunari, sadly passed away at only 49 years old due to brain hemorrhage; they were still working on the season at the time. The author of the manga drew an illustration of the coach in his honor, and they included that final line in the original soundtrack, too. It was announced while the season was airing, but I think few people expected that in particular to be his last line in the series. Such a great final line for a voice actor, never fails to give me chills ;_;

    Semi Eita is literally Suga's counterpart. Not only do they look alike, they are both third years who sacrificed a starting spot to a younger setter due to that setter's better chemistry with the team's best spiker/scorer (Hinata/Ushijima). Now they are both used as backup setters/pinch servers.

    Hinata is most definently not their best hitter 😂😂😂. Maybe by the time he was a third year haha. But Azumane and Tanaka are much better hitters than Hinata, Hinata is there only because Kageyama is. That doesn't diminish Hinatas impact on the team. Although I would even argue that Suga has the better chemistry with the team overall. But sometimes talent and the way a team is built doesn't always require that aspect. Having Hinata and Kageyama together overwhelms Sugas overall abilities.

    I'd like to point out something here that will def make season 4 more understandable later on. Washijo-sensei (shiratorizawa coach) started out the same as Hinata, a small player struggling to find their place in volleyball dominated by the tall ("Do i want a way to fight, even though i'm small?..."). He tried endlessly, but he failed to find an answer and a way for him to fight despite being small. This eventually reflects on his coaching style when he became one later (in his words "....no, I want a simple strength that can make anything surrender"). His beliefs and entire coaching style comes from his own past experience and shortcomings. What i want you to take notice, is how Washijo is keeping a close look on Hinata (such as at 28:19). Hinata reminds him of himself, obviously, and right now Hinata is about to challenge everything that he believes in volleyball. And after winning such a back and forth point in a concept of battles, Washijo sensei looked at him and basically said "look at this point, strong tall players are better", and now he is challenging Hinata to show him his answer. I suggest paying attention to how Washijo reacts to Hinata in future episodes, as this is not really explained to us in text, but through these rather subtle things such as that scene where he looks at him and i think you will enjoy season 4 a lot more :)

    When I first watched Haikyuu, I was in my 1-2 weeks off for summer break in college (I took classes every summer in college, so my breaks were short). A combination of stress, lack of sleep, and a few other things put me in a bad spot where I'd become emotionally disconnected from everything after a particularly bad day a few months prior. During the break, I watched a couple movies which I'd been looking forward to for years at the beginning of the break, but felt I ruined them for myself by not feeling anything while watching them. So, I decided to just watch this random show about a sport I never played to fill the time, thinking "If I ruin this for myself, no big loss." Well, I had marathoned all three seasons over the course of two days and it was around this point in the show that realized that I had been jumping out of my seat, cheering on the team and becoming an emotional sweaty mess. Haikyuu, which I had zero expectations for and watched on a whim, became my all-time favorite show and literally made me feel emotions again, as sappy as that sounds. And don't worry, this was years ago and things are better now.

    People have mentioned the important context with Ukai's voice actor, but I also wanted to give a nod to the Haikyuu OST. The soundtrack is sooooo good. The soundtrack for season 3 includes this line from Ukai as the very first track, just 5 seconds, with the VA for Ukai (Kazunari Tanaka) credited as an artist for the track. It really sets the tone for the musical theme of the album; a battle of concepts with most of the songs being orchestral anthems meant to empower you and life your spirit. I, like a lot of fans I imagine, listen to the OST once in a while while working as background noise. And every time that 5 second track comes up it's inspiring again. Don't you dare look down.

He decided not to change the style of volleyball he wanted to create just because he was small, but still fight for that "simple" style with players that overpower all opposition. And since he can't play that style because he doesn't have the physical power, he became a coach that fosters that style with players like Ushijima.

    First question: I think Ushijima is the captain strictly based off of what we see the coach's (and therefore the team's) values to be- strength, skill, power, etc. Ushijima doesn't have the traditional qualities that we expect from a captain (like Daichi, Kuroo, etc.) but Ushijima is the perfect fit into the Shiratorizawa mold and system. I believe coach Washijo realized at a young age that he would better serve volleyball as a coach instead of as mediocre player, despite his passion for playing. For me it is story of self-sacrifice for the love of Mistress Volleyball: making himself a tool for the naturally talented to push the sport to new heights by aiming to this ideal of raw, individualistic power. Kinda sad 😔

    What you feel about Tendou is not bad, in fact, it is the intention of the author: almost everyone who has met him has felt rejection towards him due to his appearance and behavior. But when you get to know him more, you realize that he is much more than that. That said, it's rare that you see as unbearable in Tendou the same attitudes that you celebrate in Tsukishima: both are annoying, make fun of the rival and try to distract him. The difference is that we already saw what is behind Tsukishima and have learned to appreciate it, and Tendou not (yet).

  • @ZaytsinaYolka

    @ZaytsinaYolka

    Жыл бұрын

    Tsukki is not completely like this though. He is talking back type, he usually annoys opponents with his blocking, and only says something if he is provoked first. (Though if it's his own team, he is not holding back his snarky comments at all). Tendou tends (pun not intended) to always rail up his opponent without any provocation just because. So calling their attitude same looks a bit unfair to me. I like Tendou btw, I think he is creepy-cute.

  • Жыл бұрын

    @@ZaytsinaYolka Yes, you are correct, Tsukishima usually does it as a response, while Tendou directly provokes. My point is that without knowing his background, Tsukishima's attitude could be seen as annoying as Tendou's.

  • @ZaytsinaYolka

    @ZaytsinaYolka

    Жыл бұрын

    @ And my point is what their attitudes are different and people can like Tsukki's and dislike Tendou's behaviour even without knowing their background. I always liked Tsukishima getting verbal upper hand with opponent but disliked and still dislike sometimes when he rails up his teammates just for his own entertainment. Exactly because he does former only when somewhat provoked and latter he often can do just because.

    I'm not sure about this, but remember in episode 1 where Goshiki said to Ushijima that he's going to prove about being an ace or something? I think this is what he's referring to. To prove that he deserves to be the next ace after Ushijima. Also, interestingly enough IMO, that Washijo-sensei (Shiratorizawa Coach) calls the team in their first names. AND! Love your blouse! ❤ I don't think I can recall watching any of your reactions wearing blouse, so this is ❤❤❤ for me.

    I love watching these reactions so much! You're so enthusiastic and invested in these characters and it's just so much fun to follow you on your Haikyuu!! journey!! :D It was hilarious how you kept saying that Tsukki was gonna come back and he did indeed!! Ukai's words at the end followed by Tsukishima's return are everything, such a powerful moment! Also, a few days ago our city's woman's volleyball team had a match against a tough team, ranked high in the leaderboards and considered the favorite to win and my family and I watched it at home and I taught my little sisters how to use the pickle jinx! So whenever it was especially close we kept muttering and screaming PICKLE JINX right before the players of the opposing teams served XD Anyways, the match was great and our team won 3 - 0 (the team has gotten really good lately!!)! It was also kinda funny tho, cause we've never seen so many missed serves in a match and at one point my sister started keeping track and it amounted to 12 missed serves for the opposing team and 11 on our side, almost a whole set of points!! Maybe the pickle jinx was too strong...

    @Sarah Pavan Volleyball yeah - the first time hinata and kageyama meet ushiwaka, ushiwaka recognizes kageyama's name and tells him that shiratorizawa didn't recruit him because they didn't need a setter that didn't serve the hitters. That's what semi's problem is as well

    @7:45 So in a lot of anime culture, especially anime sports, they like to portray the best kind of players with animal characteristics. So it wasn't telepathy, it was more like an animal instinct of sensing danger, so Hinata felt the aura of Wakatoshi's feelings of wanting to crush him.

    now that you have some more context around Semi i think it's worth revisiting Shirabu's backstory (episode 5 i think?) & the comments he made in middle school about not wanting to be a setter that stands out. Shirabu's basically perfect for Shiratorizawa's concept of prioritizing hitters with "simple strength"

    Something someone pointed out about Wasijo-sensei once: When he was a player the libero position apparently didn't exist yet, meaning he was at even more of a disadvantage when it came to "finding a way for him to be on the court". No wonder he idealizes big physiques in players, they have what he didn't~~
