Olympic Trials Day 4 Recap: What Happened To Athing Mu | Quincy Wilson Sprinting Mechanics

Olympic Trials Day 4 Recap: What Happened To Athing Mu | Quincy Wilson Sprinting Mechanics: The 4th Day of Olympic Trials was probably the most surprising with some of the main events with the main thing being Athing Mu tripping and missing the 800m team. Quincy Hall winning the 400m was not necessarily a big surprise but his response at the end was just pure entertainment. Enjoy!

Totally agree with you on Mu's slow response to the fall. Rolling onto her back and kicking her legs in the air was a bad move and put Sage H-K in peril, forcing her to run off the track. I'm confident that had Mu got back up quicker, she could at least have secured a spot on the team in third place. She has the talent! Sifan Hassan suffered a fall on the last lap of the 1500 in Tokyo in 2021 and was able to jump to her feet and win the race. Mu's response was puzzling, unless she was really hurt.

Thanks for mentioning Sifan's reaction when she fell. I think Mu gave up once she fell, her response was slow in getting up.

Yeah that is the big question is did she get hurt during the fall which doesn't seem likely based on her mechanics during the rest of the race as well as how she fell..

I think Mu gave up when she fell, unlike Sifan Hassan who jumped right back up when she fell in Tokyo and proceeded to win the heat. "Life is about falling down, getting up, and moving ahead." Manisha Koirala

Yes. She wanted to go to the inside lanes as she was used to do but this time there was no space, there was Whittaker. She was to slow. She lost the race already in this moment. Not very motivating for a catch up. That exactly no girl cared for her at the finish line confirmed that is was her own fault. And yes, the girl in green has good reason to be upset.

If Wilson was assigned to lane either 4 or 5 lane results would certainly be his guarantee ticket to Paris.

You've never run in spikes if you think you can control your fall in a crowded pack in a way that allows you to jump right back up. She is going so fast and hits the track so hard there is no way that could happen. The problem here is that Athing was not far enough in front of Raven to cut across in front of her and she caused the contact herself. She is a notorious front runner and is not skilled in running in that situation. It is a gap in her ability that she would drift like that in such a crowded pack. And by the way, her name is pronounced "Mo".

We can argue Athing Mu's fate. I would like to remind everyone that she came out 3place on her prelim. She doesn't look like the best as she was during her previous years. Judging from that her time as defending championship comes to an unexpected ending

Athing Mu should get rid of her coach, if he did not have enough sense to know this was one of the most important races of her career and that the major risk in such a race is colliding or tripping in the pack, to stay out of the pack until it opened up on the second lap, any fool would know that, if you remember Mary Decker in the Olympics triped by the gal from South Africa who was running barefoot.

Problem is that Athing Mu since leaving her previous Coach Milton Mallard @Texas A&M who made sure she raced regularly & coached her to her '21 Olympic & '22 World Champs Gold Medals (and was unbeaten in 2yrs) has barely raced since switching to Coach Bobby Kersee over in LA in '23! Despite not being injured, she barely raced last yr turning up severely under-raced @'23 WC where she took Bronze & then inexplicably did the same again this yr literally opening up her season @Olympic Trials, just bizarre! Looking forward to young Quincy Wilson running at least the semi of both Mixed 4x4 & M4x4 relays in Paris!

@@Performancelabofcalifornia Allyson Felix's brother Wes who's a 'super agent' in the sport & agent to Sydney McLaughlin convinced Athing to join that camp in LA & take advantage of the off-track opportunities LA had to offer.

I agree with you should have made a better effort to get back in the race , if it was for the gold medal I'm sure she would have done something different

You say her legs so long make it her fall?🤔

Her long leg didn't make her fall, her long legs make her more susceptible to hit another person's legs and that is why she fell.

Follow her eyes! She is watching the big screen, not being attentive to her surroundings. With her long legs and big feet she lacks agility. Tough luck.

It looked to me like she was looking at another woman to potentially pass and ended up running into Rogers.
