Zhou Yaqin's style is so elegant and beautiful, light and precise. It reminds me when I first fell in love with Chinese gymanstics, watching Yang Yun in the Sydney event finals, on youtube. That was sometime around 2007-08, right in time to witness the olympic team get the gold in Beijing 😃🥰

@@howlshedo Qiu Qiyuan (UB/BB/FX) and Zhou Yaqin (BB/FX) are now locked on the team. If they take Du Siyu (VT/UB) and Zhang Yihan (VT/UB), that leaves VT/BB/FX spot. It will go to Zhang Qingying if she is healthy enough to do a floor routine (~13.5) and Rudi vault, otherwise it will go to Ou Yushan who is stronger on floor (~13.8) but weaker on vault and beam.

@@Plasposthat’s what I’m thinking too bc scoring potential on vault is higher than scoring potential on floor. Did Qingying perform her rudi at nationals? I can’t find it anywhere :/

@@howlshedo no she had a slight injury so she only did bars and beam (but she placed second on beam). However she also didn't do floor at worlds last year so she actually hasn't competed floor since nationals last year which is definitely a concern. I guess floor is a slightly lower priority because Zhang Yihan is decent at floor along with Zhou and Qiu. But she really needs the vault to make a push for the team. Even though she's consistently ahead of Ou Yushan on beam, when Zhou and Qiu are also on the team that's not enough.

Yall are sleeping on Qiu Qiyuan she’s been hitting all season I just know she’s coming home with a balance beam metal. I’m betting on her I think she’s got gold this year if she hits this routine like she’s been doing

My prediction for the team final... Zhang Yihan: VT, UB, FX Du Siyu: VT, UB. Qui Qiyuan: UB, BB. Ou Yushan: VT, BB, FX. Zhou Yaqin: BB, FX. Reserve: Zhang Quingying (can do VT, BB or FX). AA: Ou Yushan and Qiu Qiyuan.

I wonder if that DTY and that Rudi from Du Suyi and Zhang Qingying will manifest in Paris. They look pretty secure in those videos, and they're only using extra mats to soften the landing, so hopefully, we can be optimistic.

With Zhang Yihan’s strong showing at nationals, she’s gonna replace either Zhang Qingying or Ou Yushan. I thought Ou Yushan would be replaced at first, but it seems like Zhang Qingying did not perform that awesome vault. Ou Yushan did well at nationals too (2nd in AA), so Zhang Qingying will probably replaced. China could have really use Qingying’s vault :(

Zhang Yihan has a 5.2 D value vault - almost as good as a hypothetical Rudi.

Where is that video of Qiu Qiyuan connecting her Downie to her Pak from? Obviously, if she can manage that in Paris, that will make a difference, especially for UB finals!

I'd rather she didn't connect her Downie to her Pak to be honest. I don't think the 0.2 CV would be worth the extra deductions she'd get from catching the Pak at that angle.

The most important for this new chinese gymnasts are their mindset. Specially zhou yaqin and qiu qiyuan, they seems to be confident or tough, while others are questionable.

they always have all the potential but then go TingTing on finals. It's so frustrating because the chinese girls are always really good but seem to break down under pressure.

she and Wei Xiaoyuan retired apparently...China doens't know how to keep athletes competing post-age 21 (Fan Yilin and Lu Yufei were 21 in Tokyo). Now Luo Huan is 24 and just placed 4th all-around so maybe the tide is changing

@@Plaspos I feel like the lack of muscle mass in their bodies (which, yes, I know it's their body type but also maybe they're intentially keeping them overly skinny) probably means their bones and joints get so much more damaged than bigger athletes. They probably run out of gas very young because of that. Kind of like how almost everybody in gymnastics used to be that skinny and they all seemed to retire by the time they hit 18-20
