@@roji556 We like to SAY that, but it's not true at all that all athletes are competitive. I think once you hit the elite or pro ranks it's more true, but I was listening to a pod today about a guy who wrote a book about 5-star quarterback recruits for college football. He contacted 54 of them and found that - like a lot of other positions - a lot of these guys just sort of cruised on talent, and once they were identified as talented everything was presented TO them, rather than them having to seek things out. And it effected their development. That competitive drive to be the best just never materialized. That's not to say that it couldn't have been nurtured, but he also pointed out that there are almost no sports psychologists being made available to these kids to help them process things. I guess it kind of depends on what you're looking for as far as being competitive goes. Pretty much any player can be competitive for 3 hours on game day. Of course, how many of them kind of call it a day if things get out of hand? Or simply because they're bat-shit crazy like Antonio Brown? I guess what I look for regarding a competitive nature is somewhere more than a guy who will play every down, and less than Michael Jordan. Of course, you could "just" be a runner. You don't exactly need to learn a playbook or take others on your back in an individual sport like that. 🤣 Take care.

I ran the 800 and I would say stretch thoroughly before every activity and always warm up with sideways motion drills. Also, you may have seen Nick warm up at a horizontal bar or wall where he swings his legs, one at a time side to side in front of him. That would be a good start to avoid future groin injury. Once you get into higher competition, you will need to prioritize track and not risk injury by doing other risky activities. But at your current age always remember to have fun✌️

I love when the hype part of the intro can be processed as, "The NFL player is old and has to carry around a lot of muscle." And "a mean 100" has to be taken with a grain of salt when put in the context of a middle-distance runner. Just insert the usual "for a" in there. Definitely faster than I can do right now, but I'm also 51 and more distance than sprints. Last year a 55-year-old man ran a 13.37 at the Iowa Senior Games, so ... just a little perspective.

I'm a distance runner, and I don't know what my 100m time is. When I do hill sprints, I run 130 meters uphill. It usually takes a bit over 17 seconds at the beginning of the workout and steadily increases as I get more tired. I'd guess that's equivalent to about 12.3 on a flat track.

I'm an amateur soccer player. I always considered myself fast, but getting old i started to find more and more guys faster than me, so i started training for sprinting and it paid of. I can run 100m under 14s anytime and sometimes i get a 13s really low. It is fine for an amateur soccer player, but never tought it was good for an amateur sprinter.
