Olympiad Resource Guide - How and what to study for USAMO, USACO, USAPhO, USABO, and USNCO

A lot of you guys have been asking me how to study for olympiads, so here are my tips :DD. I have already made individual tips videos so I didn't think I had enough new content for more individual videos, but here is an updated guide to resources that I have learned about :D.

    Isn’t Chemistry Principles: The Quest For Insight, the Chemistry book that people use? Not Physical Chemistry. I have both but idk which one to use.

  • @Cararra

    @Cararra

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hmm i looked at the difference, and from what I can see the physical chemistry is a lot more in depth (but the other one covers all of the necessary concepts too). I can't say which is better, but the physical chemistry one might be good if you want a more in-depth/advanced view.

  • @Cararra

    @Cararra

    I think it'll be pretty hard, but I'm going to be completely honest it wasn't easy for me even after reading Campbell over and over again. You for sure can pass but I don't think reading Campbell once will give you much of a margin.

    I'm gonna be honest, you really can't (although if you only have two weeks you should probably focus on cramming vocab and hope you remember the basic concepts) I don't know the distribution for your finals but USABO has a lot more focus on animal/plant physiology + genetics so maybe focus on those chapters, but I wouldn't call that studying the book since thats a fairly small subset

    www.famat.org/PublicPages/TestArchive.aspx?qy=true&category=&host=&level=Calculus&style=(Individual)&year=&calc= is an excellent resource (Mu alpha theta competitions from Florida). The calc problems are more difficult than anything you would need on USAPhO (most of them).

    For calc, any hs calc textbook works (my school uses Stewart's), it will probs take around 2 months if you focus. Getting faster at problems is just a matter of doing a ton of problems, I'm not sure there's any other way

    This might be a bit late but basically it’s this series of STEM test competition, where if you score good (above the cutoff) then you get to advance to the next test. There are different tests for different subject such as math, physics, bio and all that. The problems are pretty challenging and it will just get harder as you advance farther.

    I am a sophomore currently and I want to do USACO and USNCO. for usaco, I am decent with java as I can solve almost all of the bronze ones, and I am planning attend the december one to hopefully make silver(yes ik java is bad for usaco, but I know 0 c++) My overall goal at the end of high school is to reach platinum (im fine with gold also). for usnco, I am currently taking Ap chemistry, but I am not that great at chem. I took a local practice test on my own and I got like a 31/60 on it, and I want to qualify to the national exam by this march. my overall goal at the end of high school for usnco is to place well at nats (top 200 or better). Do you think I can accomplish my goal if i spend like 10 hours a week preparing for both of these simultaneously? Thanks

    Start with Morin red book then F=ma practice tests, once you pass to USAPhO go through HRK volumes 1 and 2 and grind tf out of physics, then past USAPhO exams for practice to get gold or camp. If you can’t understand Morin red, start with Morin blue, if you can’t understand Morin blue then start with AP Physics C, if you can’t understand that then idk don’t do usapho lol (but I think if you’re interested in usapho then you should already be getting a 5 in both AP Physics Cs lol)
