    I just recieved my hand of ifa and Olokun is my guardian Orisha. Since our characteristics of Olokun are like the bottom of the sea, I realized that no one will ever truly understand me. Everyone has their own idea of me however it's not truly correct, only I know myself. I talk, write and teach alot about understanding your darkness and learning the names of your demons. I wear a lot of black, I find it protective. I live on 99th street the past 6 years and I'm a life path 9. crazy accuracy in your video

    Yo soy hija de Olokun. I found out when I was 7 and when they said it aloud in the ceremony everyone started crying, including me. It was a very powerful moment that I will never forget. I made the bond with Olokun instantly. Sadly, I am 27 and have yet to receive Olokun because they said I needed the special one, [babalao? I think?] Olokun :/ So I am still waiting until she can open my path and allow me the finances to receive her. Every time I think about it, I cry.

    Thank you so much for your heartful and informed narrative about Olokún. I received Olokún about a year ago and I love "it". It has a special place in my home, and I always treat it with respect and adoration. It has allowed me to understand myself more than I did before, and don't like to impose on him/her. Ache pa ti. Marefún Olokún!

    Ashe To! Remember that although the religion came from Africa it was molded in Cuba to best fit the necessities of life and slowly new customs began... Theres the Traditional Yorubas who do things more African based and us Lukumisos who practice Afro Cuban. Its all the same different practices.. P.s Many people sit Orisha Oko on top of dirt in his dish...

    From what I learned Olokun is the owner of all oceans. That in Benin he is a male Orixá, but some consider it as Female. I have him as a male Orixá 'cause he visits my dreams often... And the other thing I learned is that Yemonjá is the owner of where the rivers meet the sea. In some storries Olokun is Father/Mother of Yemonjá, but in another one he/she is son/daughter of Yemonjá (Yembo).

    if you go to the states or Cuba, Africa, etc wanting to see if the Orisha are calling to you, you can get a reading from a Babalawo or Iyanifa (Iyanifas would be Isese) but they could tell you if Orisha walk with you. I suggest conracting someone in the states, it’s mostly where English-speaking priests are and there’s many scammers elsewhere. But, I suggest you look into getting a reading from Lukumi Babalawo!!

  • @jayc.9957

    @jayc.9957

    Жыл бұрын

    @Trinity M Lukumi is for anyone who is called by Orisha. The orishas determine if you are meant to be initiated and where you are meant to be initiated but this comment is false…there’s different branches of Ifa. Isese is the traditional African route which mostly you will only see Africans and people of African descent. However, Lukumí, Candomblé, etc. those are do not have a certain demographic of people that can only practice. For example, in my Ile there’s a Japanese priestess, along with two white Priests. There’s also many Koreans who practice, in Korea. I’ve met many non-Black or non-Caribbean people who practice Regla De Ocha and Ifa. Even Palo!! As for their comment about Hoodoo, Hoodoo IS CLOSED. To Black descendants of American chattel slavery. period. A non-African American would not know how to practice Hoodoo and would not have the cultural, ancestral, or regional understanding for it. As for Vodou/Vudu (Voodoo) that is the same. There is a regional and ancestral calling you need that a very select few who aren’t Haitian or Dominican receive. The spirits will usually let you know if you are meant to practice Vodou, but usually you need a tie to that specific land (Ayiti) and an ancestral tie to Arawaks, Africans, and the colonizers of that land.

    Normally Olokun is associated with the numbers 4 or 9. That must just be a difference of the tradition from which you received yours. That is a question to your godfather/mother of osha who gave you Olokun and the lineage of the tradition. Asiel)0(

    If you want to Learn and use Yoruba folklore you must go to Yoruba land to study correctly because you are using our culture ....Olokun means owner of the sea..Okun mean sea... Olokun is not dark and mysterious.....actually Olokun uses the color white...Olokun is wife of last wife Oduduwa in ile ife or Orunmila in other parts of Yoruba land...Yemoja is an Orisa of the Ogun River in Ogun state nigeria...This is a african culture if you want to know about it you must go to yoruba land to learn correctly before you can teach. When you are teaching other people culture you must take the time to learn it.We have Olokun festival in ife ife in may every year since the conception of Orisa practice unbroken.

    What you have to understand is the how and why. Research the Transatlantic slave trade and how the Orisa's came to be in the western hemisphere. Our ancestors carried the Yoruba faith across the water. Many aspects was lost...others had to be recreated based on Africans not having their tools. We also had to hide our Orisas behind Catholic saints as to not get killed for our worship. SO have a bit of compassion (isn't that one of the many things IFA teaches? Compassion and good character?). Understand that we have great respect for Orisa. I am a follower of Traditional Ifa, but I understand what happened. It's sad because most Africans do not understand nor know the horrors we have been through in slavery and trying to keep who we are. Did you know that Brasil has the most Africans outside of Africa in the western hemisphere? and guess what? They are huge Orisa worshippers. So just relax a bit and research our horrors and how our brand of worship came to be. When I say we, though I follow tradition, I speak of my ancestors. I am my ancestors. Blessings!

    We in the diaspora practice the way of the Oyó empire, prior to its fall. Yoruba Land is IFA now and in no way is an unbroken tradition. Go get initiated on your Visa card by a Babalao in Nigeria. I saw a video with two girls being initiated in Yoruba Land, it was a disgrace ! We learned from slaves and their descendants. In Cuba and Brazil. You sound like a total racist " African Traditionalist . I'm half Cuban and half Anglo Yemoja doesn't judge my DNA like you are doing here ...
