Olivia and the Broken Promise of a Non-binary Identity

Recently, I spoke with a young woman, who previously identified as trans, for my Parent Membership Group on SubscribeStar.
In this clip from our conversation, Olivia shares how she came to develop a trans/non-binary identity, and how once she adopted that identity she spiraled into a more and more distressed way of being.

I really like this format in which you insert dialogue with analysis. It has a slower pace. It often feels like conversations are happening so fast, with ppl trying to make points, that it is hard to digest certain moments. This was great. I'm sure it is not sustainable in a long format, but this was very accessible. Thank you

Yes , this great. Highlighting key concepts or moments of clarity in the conversation really helps with insight. Hope you do more of this, Sasha! I’d love to see this format on GAWL as well!

Yes, I really liked this too - it was more of a lift, production wise, but it was a good opportunity to reflect on the conversation and add in some of my thoughts at various points. Thanks Jen!

I thought that the idea of your authentic inner gender identity having nothing to do with your biological sex came from a consumer attitude of customizing your life, but I believe it is more about a concept of gender identities as *political* categories - with corresponding political missions. Taking on the NB identity is a way to take upon you the name of a political savior: a category that is oppressed, virtuous, and liberating.

I would say that my Mum and my elder sister were my initial role models. I couldn’t wait to wear bras and get my bosoms ( although I did have a time when I did bind them down because my girl guide top wouldn’t fit properly- that soon passed). As children and young adults we knew about personal and family struggle and lots of laughter was always a ‘grounding’ experience in our household. Laughing at yourself is a massive skill and trait and it has saved my adolescence & marriage loads of times! Thank you for this type of content. ❤🇬🇧

It's interesting. A fun play-pretend and shared escapism, coupled with relationship strain and magnified by a social environment inclined to strongly reinforce the play-pretend escapism, did such tremendous damage. This is why blindly playing along is wrong and potentially harmful. It is not hate to want to protect fragile people from themselves before they become adult enough truly understand themselves.

Your channel is a goldmine. Thank you so much for taking the stance you do in a field where it would have been easier to go into hiding and not address such issues head on. Subbed and hoping to see your channel grow. Huge credit to Olivia for turning her life around. As someone who's been on the college circuit, many people float until they've effectively ruined their lives. It isn't the norm. So I'm delighted for her and her family.

One recent phenomenon I wish someone could explain is why "non-binary" and "trans" often get put together into one identity? Some biological women are doing this in the sporting arena: they are XX and compete in the women's category, great! They want to identify as "non-binary", great! But it seems contradictory to say they are "trans non-binary" when "trans", up until yesterday, meant identifying as the gender different than one's sex-assigned-at-birth, whereas "non-binary", a term invented the day before yesterday, yet up until yesterday meant rejecting the notion of a gender binary. So how can one be both "trans" and "non-binary" at the same time? Not to mention that the issue of trans women competing in women's sports is its own issue, so these biological females competing in women's sports yet calling themselves "trans non-binary" just confuses everybody, even those of us conversant with the issue. It triggers the heck out of the MAGA types too, and maybe that's the real intention, but that seems rather infantile and doesn't actually help resolve the genuine issue of finding accommodation for trans athletes in an already polarized environment.

This was a great video, it really highlights the psychological distress that all young people experience in various degrees & how this ideology is adding additional mental stressers on young developing minds, which are fostered by the nonbinary & neo-transgender-activist ideology. It's so blazingly obvious to some of us, while it is also deviously insidious with how it worms its way into the psyche of young & old alike affecting the decisions that those affected by it make, as well as, those who through virtue signalling act as allies to those affected these neurosis causing ideologies. It just supports becoming untethered to reality, it's cosplay/roleplay on steroids, literally! Thank you for getting this out into the world. People who are friends & family don't have qualified professionals in the psychological & medical fields to go to for guidance because those mental health & medical professionals have been glamoroured by gender affirming care & this video illustrates this ideology is insideous & does do harm to those who are a part of it & those who support them in staying a part of it. Great work! Much appreciation!❤

Nobody is non-binary. There are gender non-confirming people in many variations, which is absolutely fine, and there are people with an identity crisis. Pronouns, rainbows, surgery and hormones don’t cure an identity crisis.

You make it sound like it's all her fault. Girls of a certain age (even more than boys) are extremely vulnerable to this thought contagion. 30 years ago, none of this torment would be happening. The fault, if there is one, lies with the enabling adults. Psychologists, therapists, teachers, doctors, etc.

And what if gender non-conforming is just a synonym for non-binary? I.e not conforming to the binaries of man and woman. Is that non conformity not none binary? And, apparently curiously, a lot of people with a supposed ‘identity crisis’ are ‘cured’ by social affirmation, hormones, and surgery. Anecdotes don’t change this.

  • @owarimiki

@@pgp519but… it’s not though. because gender non-conforming would be more closely synonymous to a masculine woman or feminine man (or just neither feminine/masculine), but someone who says they’re gnc can STILL acknowledge the reality of their sex and not identify outside it through pronouns or hormones. nonbinary enables regressive gender roles by attributing “feminine = woman” and “masculine = man”, and then the person concludes “oh i must just not be either! or both! or x y z”
