There are a few spelling errors in this video. Our apologies! At the time of loading this video our internet was SO SLOW. The hassle of editing and uploading again didn’t seem worth the time!

He would have had to offer more than what the owner would've made from the final bid, which was already over his budget. The problem is that the owner thinks the horse is worth more than what people are willing to pay for it.

Sometimes, we'll pretty often the owners get emotionally attached and think their horse is worth more than it actually is, l think as long as they are going to be sold to a good home that's more important

@@paulinerai5078 but we have to remember, that while the owner is holding this horse hostage in hopes of getting more money at a different auction, they are not feeding it adequately. @@Lee-nh5bb I hear a lot of people say, “I could never foster. I’d be so sad to give them up.” The reality is they are willing to let the animal die so that they won’t be sad. I’m sure they aren’t thinking of it in that way, but that’s the way it is.
I can’t do horse auctions. They tend to break my heart. I run a horse rescue so I frequently get calls to come and rescue horses from these places. I send my husband or my brother to see what can be done. You’re right about the eyes, you can always tell where a horses head is at or how they’re feeling by looking into their eyes.
Nice shout out to Shae and Kyle at Free Spirit. Great way to support community!
I did a horse auction once, never again. Heartbreaking, especially as the knackery people were there too. Horses are not commodities like used cars, they are sentient beings. Sad to see their eyes, they are resigned to their fate, whatever that may be. Bless them all.

Sorry you didn’t get him, there was something about him that tugged at the heart. I only rode a horse a handful of times, my parents always owned a couple, but I wasn’t interested back then, but two of my sisters were and still love horses. They are the largest puppy mill producers in the USA, they’re abusive to animals-horses especially. There was a retirement farm for draft near my farm & the horse there were mostly Amish drafts rescued off slaughter trucks. They’re almost always blind in one eye. If they’re blind in the right eye, they’re the right side of the hitch. Left eye blindness, left hitch. Because the Amish CANE DRIVE them by striking the horse on the side of the face to steer them. The Amish think we’re foolish to put so much love, care & attention into our animals. They are nothing but service animals to them. And when the service has come to its end, either the breeding dogs are shot, or the horses are slaughtered. No remorse.

That pony mare hitched broke my heart 💔
Starting Clydies under saddle is so much fun. And yes he is so far under weight its not funny - I reckon he'd want a nice balanced feed with vitamins and minerals, plenty of good quality grass hay if no access to good pasture .... I cant believe that some folk go 'oh I have to feed them everything NOW' then wonder why they founder them :/ lol That pony stud you found that you had a feel to make sure was a boy was probably hoping you were going to take him to dinner first! lol Well done on the mini belted gallway bull - and hes red!!!!!! @@merrelthorson2224 AWESOME that's great to hear! Clearly I've just not come across one yet. I love colour genetics - my chosen breed of horse is the Cleveland Bay, so most have come out Bay, however have had Liver chestnuts that went grey as mum had chestnut and grey dad had chestnut in too and threw that beside being a biiiig bay boofer himself. The odd Chestnut from two bay parents or one bay and one chestnut parent when dad threw his copy of chestnut. A smokey black from a bay mum, a perlino dad. Same mare threw a black to a black tobiano with not an ounce of white. Could go on.... And my Grandfather (RIP) bred pigs for showing, selling and eating...and got a variety of colours and patterns too. Question re the cattle: with the horses, you can go Tobiano to about anything, but Overo can go to solid, Tobiano, Max White Sabino or Generic Sabino - socks, stockings, clydie like markings etc... But Overo to Overo is an25% chance of a lethal white which will have to be pts shortly after birth when it's decided it is a LW. Don't even get me started on Roans... Do you get the issues with cattle and markings/genetics?

Just in case you don't already know, JR was able to buy that Clydesdale after all, partly because veiwers sent him money and begged him to find him. The horse was nearly dead by the time JR got there to rescue him. Several others around him did die! But JR paid the $5000 they were asking, and a whole lot more, thousands more in vet bills and special medication for EPM, which crippled the horse so badly he could almost not even walk, and high quality feed to help him gain weight. They named him Oliver, and he has gained nearly 1000 pounds now! He's so healthy and happy! He's loved so much, and he knows it. It's one of the few stories we see with a really happy ending. If you haven't already seen the later videos on him, Homestead Horsemanship's channel has a playlist just for Oliver, where you can follow his story. It's so heartwarming! This channel and the channel of their friend Shae, at Free Spirit Equestrian, are my 2 favorites. When I have my morning coffee I always look for them. No matter how miserable I am in the morning, the positive vibes from them always cheer up, so I can face the day! If you already know the stuff about Oliver, I'm sorry. THE APPA. WAS GORGEOUS!
I am so happy you saved him. Makes me so sad.
For those worried about the Clyde colt, maybe this can help you not be too worried; One reason the Clyde colt was a tad on the thin side could be because there’s some research that shows fast growing plump babies can suffer joint issues such as osteochondrosis dessicans and epiphysitis. There seems to be some genetic relevance as it seems to run in bloodlines, (in many breeds,) but scientists are far from finding the key genes. Couple that with a recent growth spurt (his rump and withers seem on an even level; he’s not currently butt high like most 20 month olds are,)(and not the last growth spurt; he’s got a few more years of them,) and toss a bit of dehydration on top of it all, (because apparently other places’ water is Actually Poison and I refuse to try it,) and you have a few good reasons to not think he’s being neglected. IE, to not worry that he’s going back into a neglectful situation. Our vet wanted to see a hint of ribs on our foals until they were 2 yrs old. Granted, she also wanted them to have frisky trots, bright eyes, glossy coats, and nosey personalities. All signs of good health. And which I didn’t see on the Clyde colt. But It drove non-breeders crazy as they had no idea. Fat horse = healthy horse right? No, fat horse = healthy farrier and vet bills. Anyway, my question was, if the owner no saled him because he felt the colt was worth more, did he have the colt’s genetic disease panels done? A large percentage of drafts can have PSSM, which would be bad. Before buying a horse make sure!
@kimberleyjanemcnab5343
Жыл бұрын
Glad you said this. Most people don’t understand that bigger horses tend to be on the thin side until fully grown as the calories are used up in growth rather than fattening. A slightly ribbed colt is a good thing in some breeds and over fattening can be the cause of laminitis. To me rather than looking sad he actually looked like he was board and dozing. Just like my big boy does at home!

And thank you, we really wanted him! But you can’t spend more then you have no matter how much you want to help an animal.
Well howdy ! We're just a county or 2 over...welcome to the community ❤️
Just come across this video...I'm a fan of free spirit equestrian....that Appy is right up Shae's Street...I shall be tuning into your channel regularly now..🐎

Welcome and thank you! We love Shea!
When I see what the poor animals are going through in an auction my heart is bleeding. 😔 The young draft lying on the floor with its nose down shows that it is suffering a lot.

Yes that was the same owner that brought the Clydesdale. He brought 6 or 7 skinny young ones. They didn’t go to slaughter and he only no saled the Clydesdale so they are surly getting better care now

I'm sorry that you didn't get the pony that you wanted to purchase at this auction. My heart is broken that you were not able to purchase the Clydesdale that you had your eyes on. Lord knows what conditions he will have to endure when he goes back to the person who was trying to sell him. I can only pray that one day he goes to a good home where he is loved and appreciated and can have a great life filled with love and affection.
From Nebraska I love Dickies bbq
That fateful auction where you met the wonderful Oliver !!. I've said to you before I believe in fate and it was present on this day..looking at our beautiful boy here to what he looks like today you wouldn't think its the same horse..he must have felt so 💩..but didnt take that out of you and listen when she says he loves people. He surely does..the start of a beautiful friendship...isnt it amazing to look back..at the end when you said ut wasn't meant to be our lord heard you and thought you needed a project and decided on Oliver to be that protect..when I saw the begining of the video I thought surely iys not thr same but it was..our boy hanging his head down like he had given up..
THE CLYDESDALE WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HORSE XX
What a neat channel 👍👍👍Glad I found it ! I can't believe that buckskin went for 11 thousand 😳It was a beauty though .I'm in southern Missouri,I moved here from eastern Washington state last spring to be closer to my kids and grandkids in Illinois.Good luck finding the perfect horses/ ponies in future auctions 🙏☘️

Omg sad ..😭🥰
Thank you for posting. This was a very entertaining, and informative video. I really enjoyed seeing all the different animals, and hearing JR share his thoughts on each. As for that poor Clydesdale, well, we cannot always know His plan for us. Maybe that colt still has some of His work to do, with his owner. I felt JR's disappointment, and how much he wanted to help that skinny boy. Respect, though, for keeping the responsible stewardship foremost. Good luck with the little bull.

Good Job! 👍
So sad you didn't get the Clydesdale. He looked so sad and in need of a better home.
Right after that mini that you def wanted to bid on, us a smart horse, he nodded at ya,lol
When I was a kid, we had a buckskin grula, it was evidently rare, (remember i was a kid) she was sold to breed XD
Thanks for this video
