Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond (Lyric Video)

Музыка

Lyric video for Rich Men North of Richmond by Oliver Anthony created by @CountryAtItsFinest
Lyrics:
Well, I've been selling my soul
Working all day
Overtime hours
For bullshit pay
So I can sit out here
And waste my life away
Drag back home
And drown my troubles away
It's a damn shame
What the world's gotten to
For people like me
And people like you
Wish I could just wake up
And it not be true
But it is
Oh, it is
Livin' in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord, knows they all
Just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think
Wanna know what you do
And they don't think you know
But I know that you do
'Cause your dollar ain't shit
And it's taxed to no end
'Cause of rich men
North of Richmond
I wish politicians
Would look out for miners
And not just miners on an island somewhere
Lord, we got folks in the street
Ain't got nothin' to eat
And the obese milkin' welfare
But God if you're five foot three
And you're three hundred pounds
Taxes ought not to pay
For your bags of fudge rounds
Young men are putting themselves
Six feet in the ground
'Cause all this damn country does
Is keep on kicking them down
Lord, it's a damn shame
What the world's gotten to
For people like me
And people like you
Wish I could just wake up
And it not be true
But it is
Oh, it is
Livin' in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord, knows they all
Just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think
Wanna know what you do
And they don't think you know
But I know that you do
'Cause your dollar ain't shit
And it's taxed to no end
'Cause of rich men
North of Richmond
I've been selling my soul
Working all day
Overtime hours
For bullshit pay

I’m a 42 years old truck driver and have been working 70 hours a week plus side work for over 7 years straight. And this hit home. I take responsibility for not living a financially perfect younger life, but pair that with a divorce and a family tragedy, I feel buried and no matter how much I grind and stay positive, I see no light at the end of the tunnel. Politicians are so out of touch with who they “represent”. It’s gotten so much harder just to stay afloat these past few years. I do not need or want any hand outs. But stop making it so damn hard for hard working Americans to get ahead or climb out of struggles no matter how we got there.

I grew up in a home where both of my parents were drug addicts, I would come home from school frequently to a note on the door that read " Go to Vic's house we will let you know where we have moved to. See ya bud". I spent 20 years in the army, it was my only option to move up a class in this country. When one of the few ways to better your and your family's lives is war, there is something seriously wrong. All for someone's personal vendetta. This song speaks for most of Americans.

When the songwriter makes you feel something that strikes you all the way to your core you know that they have a God-given talent.
