    @@crosspointholsters1636 Yeah, it was the shitty batteries that the guy was using that blew, not the light. Look at the stuff people really into RC cars deal with. Some of them charge their batteries in a metal pot in the middle of an empty area because cheap batteries can be that unstable. and sometimes "cheap" for a serious RC car is still a couple hundred dollars.

    Thanks for doing this video. I have 3 WML from Olight. What I'm noticing about them is their way to focused on putting so many products out rather than trying to find ways to improve on what they have. Apparently their not listening to feedback and from here on out I'm refusing to purchase anymore lights from them. Smart companies listen!!

    Thanks for your feedback! I do appreciate the Olight is trying to put out new products, hopefully to serve our community. That said, I would like to see them improve their output curve. Rather than dropping off quickly, would be great if they gave us 5 minutes of strong output. Also, I dislike the switching and that it defaults to low mode after changing the batteries.

    Thank you for your honest review. For the price, it's really not a horrible offering. I see them in the $60 range all of the time, and they are exactly what I would expect from a $60 light. There are certainly way better options if you're willing to spend $40-50 more. Not a home run from Olight, but it didn't get caught in the outfield either.

    The light activation is very subjective. Some people like the paddles, some like the switch. As far as candela numbers…doesn’t matter if it’s 1000 or 10,000. All is matters is that it illuminates the area to where you can identify the threat in an engagement. Most engagements are a few seconds. Does it really matter if the output drop after a couple minutes? And does the amount it drops really make you unable to see your target? I don’t think so.

With all the features, the magnetic locking cap, the quick detach and locking mechanism to remove it from the mlok mount, the magnetic charging etc. not to mention it’s a solid candela and lumen output. That thing lights up my whole street. I would’ve expected better from olight. They need to step it up on this one.

    I have a couple Olights, and a couple Streamlights. The Olights are right there with them quality wise. Streamlight is a household name, and a Gucci gun god go to, especially when it comes to their flex rants online. I remember when they used to knock Holosun the same way. And i can't wait till something comes out one day to the effect of both of them being built in the same factory or something. You certainly can't shout the Made in America agenda anymore... Even though the Gucci guys still do!

    @projectblack246211 ай бұрын

    They advertise a drop in lumens i think they do that for better overall run time. There is no free lunch, and performance in one category requires sacrifice in others. A sustained 1300 lumen output requires short overall runtimes to accommodate. Most operators run momentary illumination. Thats the way i was trained. It is harder to track you and more easily disorients your enemy. So a runtime of 30s at full output is understandable. The step down in illumination is to deal with performing constant on search scenarios, where you dont wanna kill your batteries. At 450 lumens, that competes with lights that are geared more towards this application. Plus, one thing i liked about it is the relatively high candela rating. I prefer a wide, immediate field of view. Wash a large area with light a few seconds at a time. Plus you didnt happen to notice the strobe feature. Frankly, i think before this light was reviewed, it couldve been researched just a bit. I personally like that you can switch between running low and high modes, some lights require you to enter high mode, then step down. This allows you to enter low mode setting or high mode setting as your default on mode. This makes more sense in my opinion. You might only want low mode for home defense, but you might want high mode for a truck gun/edc. Im always disappointed in one way or another. For me, it's the lack of pressure switch options. But id rather be disappinted for 60 bucks vs 400 for a surefire. Or for a similar price on a tlr2, which has a pressure switch option that costs as much as this whole light.

  • @jenshauer7434
    @jenshauer7434 Жыл бұрын

    It is without question that if the lumens drop so significantly, it isn’t the product the seller has promised. On the other hands I had a different problem with handgun lights. The problem was their lumen power because as I am not a special forces member I require normal room illumination - usable for a distance between the rooms or max 10 yards, something that will not hurt my eyes. Some of the brands even in low mode have a such power that the reflection is dazzling me heavily which in self defense situation is certainly not desirable. So not everything that is marketed with words "super-power" is in fact utilizable.

    I have a surefire x300, 2trl-1’s and a bldr pro and pl3r and I’ll be honest with you they are all kick ass. The trl has a denser brighter throw whereas the olight is as bright but more spread to it. The surefire is really the best of both worlds. I know these guys are professionals and have all the fancy equipment and so forth, but I cannot recreate these results with my oliggt. It’s just repeated naked eye testing but put side by side with both other lights I don’t get the same super noticeable drop off. A drop off that drastic should be noticeable but I can’t make it happen. I even run the batteries completely dead once and it took an hour before dimming was obvious. Maybe it’s because I have the rechargeable version or something. Again I know my non scientific test doesn’t mean much to you KZread pros but I just don’t get this result. If you have the money buy a surefire but I much prefer the olight to the trl1. Just $.02

    Thanks for the info!! I'm really intrigued though, as many other manufactures are able to reach a steady 1000lm output for more than an hour (Streamlight TLR10 according to marketing), but Olight just fails to do so with same two CR123A, even with modified(presumably better), batteries? PL3's next strongest mode is merely 400lm. Since the LED's are all from same upstream manufacturers like Cree, I cant imagine a reason why there is such a huge discrepancy in runtime performance between Olight and others...

    This is the best take to have honestly. I really get sick of the Olight bashers who can afford cloud or surefire weapon lights and think that makes them a better person. Yes, those expensive lights are better than Olights. No, that doesn’t mean the 3x investment is worth it for every single person. I've been fiddling around with different lithium batteries for racing drones, and I've learned that not all batteries are the same. Depending on maker and build quality, they have different discharge rate [C], where a high rate is good when you want full power output as long as possible before it drops.

I haven't had issues with the switch or it staying tight on the firearm that's just your preference ... .. And yes I have the heavy duty lights as well for a much higher Cost $$$$$

    Always enjoy the videos and email segments you send out to those of us who subscribe. Definitely not a fan of Olight based on a few things. Main reason, and correct me if they improved on it… I cannot stand using their lights based on the momentary activation. The Gens I have always turned the light on with the quick press of the switch. I went back to using TLR-1 and X300 lights. Still running the first holster I bought from y’all.

    I bought the olight baldr pro. The thing is a terrible piece of junk. It constantly flickers and steps down in power if you hold the light at a certain angle. Also, the magnetic charging is a feature for people who don't train or use their light in the dark. You need a light where you can swap out the battery at a moments notice to keep your light in the fight.

    I've been running surefire and streamlights since I can remember. My other friends, associates, people I know, who tend to be on the more budget perspectives of the firearms community, buy these often. They said they're good, for a quick solution. I've managed to get them to get better equipment, especially lights. I just kept seeing them , hearing about them, so I bought a few to see what the deal was. Ran them on shotguns, pistols from 22 lr to 10mm auto, and 45 acp, bolt guns from 22lr to 338 lapua , and semi auto rifles from 22lr to 50bmg. And I will honestly say.....budget is what they are. I get not everyone can afford everything. However, when it comes to your gear, equipment, support, etc etc, you NEED to spend the money. You will be relying on these items with your life. Don't set yourself up for failure.

    VIDEO UPDATE: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lnyg2tuBYszOhNo.html Olight has asked that we repost results using their batteries. I think that's fair. However, I want to stress the 3 reasons why we use control batteries. 1) Light testing has a lot of variables. If the batteries we are using are always changing, then it's hard to compare lights accurately. I don't want a certain manufacturer to gain an advantage because they include batteries that aren't available to you or I. Yes, we can buy these batteries, but am I going to be using them across everything? Retesting across all lights? 2) Panasonic is one of the largest battery manufacturers in the world. Their batteries are readily available, high quality, and reasonably priced. 3) We burn through -a lot- of batteries in testing each light. I went through a dozen in this testing video. If I don't have batteries available to run the same test multiple times, then I'm not even using the same batteries in the same light video. I only had one set of Olight batteries for each of the two light samples. Now that clarified, here are the results. Light #1 had about 30 seconds of previous runtime on the batteries. It started off at 223 lumens, then I switched to high mode. It went to 1399 lumens. 30 seconds in, it was at 1376 lumens. 120 seconds in, it was at 479 lumens. Averaging samples every 5 seconds from 30-120 seconds, it comes in at 905 lumens. Light #2 had about two minutes of previous runtime on the batteries. It started off about 200 lumens (low mode), then I double tapped it and it went to 1325 lumens. 30 seconds in, it was at 1301 lumens. 120 seconds in, it was at 456 lumens. Averaging samples every 5 seconds from 30-120 seconds, it comes in at 801 lumens. In short, yes, these lights do have higher output using Olight's batteries. I suspect they may even meet their 1300 lumen claim with completely fresh batteries. I don't have a stockpile of their batteries, so my conclusion in this video isn't any different. I actually like flashlights that use CR123A batteries because it's easy to get the light back up and running with commodity batteries. However, neither you nor I are going to go to the store and pick up Olight branded batteries to get our lights up and running at high output. So we're stuck buying a bunch of Olight's batteries directly or we are stuck with a low output full size light.
