    You can also turn the head to ‘just off’ and that will allow you to quickly press the head down for a momentary on function. Which also allows for one hand operation.

    The twisting looks interesting, but is there a “stop” after each mode? And twisting still requires 2 a hand operation, so it won’t be as good as those one handed operation for when your hands are full right?

    There is no stop, but twisting only requires one hand and it’s easy to stop at low and to find high.

    I carried one of the original i1rs for years. It was my first "flashlight" so to speak. Purchased for the practicality. This thing is so hard to accidentally activate that I carried one every day for over a year without ever even using it and the battery was still good to go when I remembered I had it. My only complaint with this style of light is that there's absolutely no battery indicator and it makes me want to save the battery for absolute emergencies. A nitecore Tini 2 with it's display is almost the perfect keychain other than the accidental activations I've had with it. It also let's you "ration" your battery so to speak. Good review. 👍

    Is the battery capacity advantage over the 10180 due to the chemistry, or is olight actually packing in more battery volume? It's not clear what you are saying.

  • @cheule

    Same chemistry, the battery is larger in volume due to lack of casing space. 130mAh vs 80mAh for the Frog/GT nano.

    Last version of light was pretty good if you don't lose the half of it while charging. Last one had issues when turning head as light wasn't on properly on low and high. It's still work but that one issue isn't a deal breaker. I prefer you can't take head off so you won't lose it. Just bought another one of these in pumpkin orange looks so nice!

    After seeing this I’m a little bummed I missed out on this deal. I figured it was just a limited design change from the i1r2 pro, which I already had. Wish they had focused on the emitter when selling this light. While this and the i1r2 pro are pretty good lights, actually put an old streamlight stylus pocket clip on mine and used a piece of heat shrink to connect a quick release keychain magnet on the tail end. Makes it a tadd longer, but meh now I can quickly detach the light from my key ring while the keys are attached to my belt loop and the pocket clip is to be able to use as an improvised headlamp. Then I can sweep my light across my keys and the magnets attract one another. Works way better for me.

    The two lighting levels are a welcome feature in a small light. Not a fan of the USB rechargeable as it means the battery cannot be swapped on the go, and once the battery is dead, the entire light is dead. That said it is nice that it can be recharged on the go. Size is honestly nothing to write home about. It is larger than competing lights like the Skilhunt E3A and even Olight's own i3e EOS (both are >1cm³ smaller). More importantly the built-in battery argument doesn't hold any water as the iMorse's battery only packs 130mAh@3.6V, so 468mWh. In comparison, a 1.2V, 900mAh AAA would pack over twice as much energy at 1080mWh, and a light that supports 350mAh 10440 li-ions would contain even more. They do save some space by not having threads and a using a lighter battery enclosure, but it's all negated (and then some) by the need for a built-in charging circuit, which is why they end up only being able to cram 468mWh in there.

  • @cheule

    @cheule

    Жыл бұрын

    Your battery analysis is good, but remember comparing alkaline or NiMH to LiPo/Li-Ion is never fair because the latter runs brighter. We see this with dual chemistry lights like the pineapple mini or Frelux synergy. The comparison is versus the Frog though, which is a similarly sized light and has a 80mAh battery versus the 130mAh in the iMorse.

    The thing I’ve never understood about the accessible battery that isn’t a throw away in certain situations is. You could either carry a spare of the same battery, or carry a battery recharging pack. If your keychain light is dead. You still have your phone that you watched this video on. I live in the country on a road with no lights for miles. I camp and I’m outside a lot. These ‘emergency’ imaginary scenarios have no real world application if you are or aren’t prepared.

  • @LuxWad

    I own every keychain Olight they've released over the last few years, and all are excellent. I prefer the original i1R as it's the smallest and also has a nice NW emitter, but the iXV (which is identical to this, and is itself just a NW version of the i1R2 Pro) is also very good. If I may, I think many people perceive you as "selling out" to Olight mostly due to the very positive tone of your video, it does honestly come off a little like a sales pitch rather than an objective review - comparisons/meaurements notwithstanding. It's particularly offputting when you're also pushing an Olight sale, which on the surface just screams "sponsorship" regardless of intention. With such a popular brand as Olight, anything other than intense critical scrutiny will call into question the nature of your relationship, simply due to their reputation. IMO, the best way to overcome this is to adjust your presentation and internally frame your analysis as though Olight is aiming to rip you/your viewers off, and you're here to protect them and point them towards the best value, while making Olight earn their place as the big brand it is... if that makes sense. No doubt thees are great lights, and I believe you are being honest with everything you're saying, and agree personally with your assessment. I just think there might an issue with presentation and sudden saturation of Olight videos. But then again, someone online will always get upset and you just can't win sometimes 😅
